Lovely, older theater on campus of Wayne State University. Relatively smaller venue compared to most downtown theaters, but the space has great sight lines all around, and good acoustics. The stage, seating and performance areas appear to have been updated in recent years, though the lobby and restrooms are of a design that looks to be from about the 1920s, with granite floors in the restrooms (likely similar flooring underneath the lobbys green carpet). Seats are comfortable for me at 6’1” with spacious aisles. Enjoy the performance!

Seen 3 plays at the Underground, in the basement. Hilberry Theatre closed for a $65 million dollar renovation. The Underground has about 100 seats in close proximity to the stage. A wonderful, entertaining experiance each time.

Dally in the Ally is a ton of fun every year, my uncle was one of the original and still standing creators of this event which now brings thousands of people in every year. I am afraid that this years might have been the last because of all the people who set it up are getting to old. Lets hope we continue this yearly event and forgot to support the dally in the ally

Reckless was an awesome & unique show! I love how everything got tied together. The cast was so talented. They were probably the most expressive group of actors Ive ever seen! That is so important since when you are in the underground, you are only a few feet away from the stage!

Saw Reckless in the Underground Theater. The remodel is fantastic!! What a difference. Same sense of intimacy, with new seats, lighting and stage. Truly, a hidden jewel. The play was wonderful, as WSU continues to churn out talented actors. Cant wait to come back again.

Wonderful theatre with excellent performances by Wayne State University students. Just saw the play Sweat and it was so good.

All of the actors and actresses were excellant. I truly hope they get whatever they want out of life. You would have thought you were watching a live television show. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!! Tyler Perry open the way. They are coming.

The stage is gorgeous, the actors are amazing, all together really well done and well maintained.

Was in the lower level, Studio not the upper main theater. Its General Admission. Every seat must be good because its only like 4 rows deep. Concession was cool and fair priced. I heard bathroom was extremely small and 1 out 2 thrones were out of order so, lines grow fast. Had a great time and it was an easy visit

We saw Sweat and it is a very moving, emotional play. The acting was great, seats were great, the set was magnificent, however my only bad thing I could say was it was difficult to hear the actors. I dont know if the actors are miked but either way, they needed to turn up the sound. The actors frequently dont face the front of the stage in this play so it makes it difficult. Even my husband with his hearing aids turned up was struggling to hear. All in all though, we are very pleased with our season tickets. We will keep coming to the theater, you should too. Tickets are very reasonable and there are really no bad seats. Give it a try.

Lavinia Moyers last Hilberry direction was A Winters Tale and it was amazing

Havent been to WSU Hilberry Theatre in years. It was such a pleasure to return as an Alumni and catch a matinee performance of Blithe Spirit. Bravo

I never realized what a gem we had in the city. I went tonight for a performance of Angels in America Part 2 and I was blown away. I will definitely be back for a performance at this theater again. Clean, lovely set up and amazing staff.

First time at this venue. What a great musical. Will come back again.

Great talent in a beautiful old building.

Avenue Q was the first performance I saw here, despite loving the show I will struggle to recommend this theater to anyone over 54. Ive had a more comfortable and spacious seat on a budget airline. Being of average height, I felt as though I my knees were both in my face and in the back of the next rows head. There is little signage to help direct patrons to the correct door to enter the auditorium and surprisingly little help to find your seats.

Always fun to come here.

Folks, if you want top-notch theater without the top-dollar ticket price then go see a show at the Hillberry. Performances are put on by graduate students pursuing masters of fine arts degree in acting, production and theater management. The acting is superb and some of the best theater shows Ive seen. Ive had a season subscription for 3 years now.

My family absolutely loved every detail of the theater!! Avenue Q was hilarious! The sets and seating were great. Concessions and tickets were super reasonable!!! Honestly a terrific night out that we look forward to doing again and again!!

Its good for dance shows but not for graduation. Its all black interior it needs remodeling

Theres not a bad seat or sight line in this quaint 560 seat theater. The talent level and production value is excellent. Be sure to take advantage of student pricing!

Blithe Spirit was a fantastic production!

The hilberry is Wayne States theater. It also has their main box office. I was there to purchase tickets for Mamma Mia the musical which will be performed at the bonstelle theater. The box office staff was very helpful and attentive and showed me the available seat options so I could pick the seats of my choice.

Old but nice

WOW! We just saw Bram Stokers Dracula Saturday night and it was AMAZING! I mean, the cast was INCREDIBLE. The set was beautiful and they had lots of exciting special effects. Also, the theater is very intimate; no bad seats!This was our first Hillberry Theater experience and we will be going often. This is a must see-- a fantastic family outing (we took our two kids) and we just all thought it was fantastic treat for Halloween Season. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend!

This beautiful historic building is one of the three theaters at Wayne State University. The architecture is beautiful, with stately Roman columns reminding visitors of its previous life as a church. I find this interesting, as the other university theater used to be a synagogue. The plays here are good, and a great value for the ticket price. I wish they allowed travelling companies to perform as the selection is limited.

Shakespeare Twelfth Night: A high energy, fun filled performance, with a cast that knew their lines well and could focus on adding the extra touches that keep you entertained during the premier of Twelfth Night at Wayne State Universitys Hilberry Theatre. A must see sword fight, Delightful!

The show was Awesome I only stayed for the 1st half ( the ladies & students) & I was very impressed.

Great show! The seats were comfortable and I could see and hear everything on the stage.

The play King Lear was very good. The character of The Fool was brilliant...the percussion added an additional effect, bringing the play to life...the parking was accessible, our only issue of concern was that the theater was very cold even with coats on.

The students work incredibly hard to put on these quality performances. Its a cool piece of Detroit history, make sure to see a show before it is completely renovated in a few years!

I got season tickets for the Hilberry Theater and my first show was You Cant Take It With You. I thought that the story was compelling, the acting was engaging, there was a larger than expected cast and the extra extras made for a better story, and finally as a season member there is free popcorn and coffee! I am looking forward to the next show.

I take my Performing Arts students here for live theatre. The Hillberry has graduate students and professional actors and is among the very best all-around, economic venues for great, live performance in Detroit.

My first experience with this venue and I must admit I was impressed by its intimate presence.
