I have not been to see this collection in person, but I have a friend of a friend who has... AND LOVED IT! Now, sadly, it is closed until 2020. Thats when the Devon Dikeou Mid-Career Smear retrospective exhibition opens, on February 20, 2020. Ill try to be patient. In the meantime the website is fun to visit. I strongly recommend future visitors (potential visitors? living-in-hope visitors?) read and/or listen to the CPR report, Denver’s Best-kept Art Secret is on the 16th Street Mall, by Becky Morgan, from April 10, 2014.

Free to the public and like nothing you have ever seen. A contemporary art gallery with 16 foot pink bunnies and art that will leave you thinking now what was that trying to convey.Even the wallpaper in the bathroom is art. We took a toddler to the gallery and she loved it. Some of the pieces are even interactive so it made it more fun for her.

This place is a treasure, and Im so happy I had the opportunity to visit while in Denver. I had a great time contemplating the art, and loved the cell phone audio tour.

This place is a sparse yet interesting contemporary art museum on the 5th floor of the old Colorado Building. Located on the 16th street mall, this free museum has unique installations that are both functional and interactive. The fifth floor is broken up into rooms and each art installation has its own room, sometimes its not known if what is in the room is the actual piece of art, as in the room that just has an old answering machine from the 80s sitting on the floor in the corner with a blinking light, but in many other rooms the art pieces are very big. When going be sure to check out both halves of the museum since the curators office is in the middle.

This is a hidden gem in Denver. I dont even know how it can possibly exist in a city where real estate prices are out of control and artists are being tossed out of their homes like yesterdays newspaper. The art is not very fine, in fact a lot of it looks like it might be student work, but there are some really neat installations and the experience of wandering through the rooms and finding all of the nooks and crannies is surprisingly uplifting. Definitely take some time to check this place out!

Parking can be a pain, but this gallery is very much worth the inconvenience! They always have exhibits that are spatial in nature, and I really appreciate this. It makes the art world feel more organic and three dimensional.

There are some neat pieces, but overall, its an odd collection of crafts. There is no accounting for taste. If you have enough money, you can call anything art.

This is a fun interactive art museum with exhibits you hit or play or literally crawl through. There is some ordinary, static, admire the wall art too. Mostly though space is explored, dimensions are altered and you control the sound and speed. You get a free audio tour, its a number you call so just bring your cell phone, I wish I brought ear buds. They opened 15 min late, but it was free, fun and not crowded. My group was the only one there for the hour and a half or so we were thereLocation is good, afterwards we ate some Tosayaki from the street vendor.

Ive been in this area of 16th street a bajillion times, but never knew the Dikeou Collection was hiding upstairs in that random building around the corner. Thanks, Yelp, for the find! Soo, this place is very random. No signs outside or really any way of knowing about it other than word of mouth or in my case, Yelp. Admission is absolutely free! So theres really no reason not to pop in for a visit. If youre like me and absolutely clueless about art, especially modern art, youll probably leave thinking, wellll, okay then. A lot of it is downright weird. Some things are creepy/scary. Youll know what Im talking about when you visit, haha. There is also a free audio tour (you call a number posted at the entryway table and follow the voice recording to each exhibit). Dikeou is a nice place to visit if youre just looking for something random to do in the area, want to kill time, or avoid the rain/snow/cold. There are some pretty interesting photo ops in the space and its cool that they do offer the audio tour if youre interested in learning more about the art. Big thanks to the donor who bought all the pieces in display! This is a neat, eclectic addition to Denver and I hope it sticks around for more people to enjoy!

The Dikeou Collection is hidden on the 5th floor with no external signage. There is some hint of what is to come in the buildings lobby. In the museum, you have no idea what is around the corner. Its an adventure finding your way around with plenty of art everywhere you turn.
