Capistrano Surfside Inn

Went here for a staycation with my teen kid. The place was great for the two of us. Had a beach facing one bedroom and it was amazing to fall asleep and wake up with the sounds of the ocean. Centrally located with three restaurants and one bar within short walking distance. Clean and practicing good covid protocols

I enjoyed my week and the kind employees. Great place to vacation. Clean rooms. Harbor, entertainment, great restaurants, shopping.

This resort is great. Has access to the beaches. Has a bike rental to enjoy the day with the family. Is also close to the freeway for easy access to the harbor. I highly recommend staying here. My kids were smiling the entire stay they were having so much fun. We can’t wait to come back again.

Beautiful seafront condominiums. Walking distance from Olamendis taco shop and right in front of the water. Very clean, impeccable bathroom.

Clean, quiet and fun lounge downstairs with pool table and TV. Lounge is in desperate need of better cue sticks though. Theirs were very torn up.

Very nice stay, but there were some minor issues they need to fix. For one thing, the water should not take many minutes to get hot.

The kitchen had ants on a daily basis. They came in and sprayed for ants and there were several ant traps all over the kitchen. I never felt comfortable cooking in the kitchen and ended up going out to eat more than planned due to the ants. There was also a dead cockroach on the ground after they sprayed, which concerned me for the cleanliness of the rest of the place. The restroom area (toilet) smelled disgusting! No circulation or fresh air possible in that tiny space. The toilet flushed very slow and it smelled nasty. I never really felt clean walking on the floor of the restroom or room while I was there. It was our first stay. If we had an ocean view, it would have helped, but we had a view of the dirt and sad looking trees behind the resort. Our room was right by the smoking area outside. The workers were very nice and welcoming. Compared with other timeshares, this was my least favorite property. The location by the beach is fantastic, but it was hard to relax because of the bugs and it never truly felt clean. The ants were in the cupboard with silverware and snacks. I put everything edible in the refrigerator and was nervous to sit and eat anything at the table. The elevator is incredibly slow and there is only one on site.

Awesome place!! Great view of the beach! Balcony view as well. They have a small table in the patio, I made great use of after I picked up breakfast from the Dennys down the street. Very romantic for either a morning breakfast or dinner with the love of your life...or loved ones If you brings the kids like we did. The bedroom was awesome big queen size bed. Jacuzzi tub fold out couch kitchen available....a must if your ever in San Juan Capistrano/San Clemente area and need a place to stay. Price is little much but not bad for beach front property...definitely worth it.

Rooms were cleaned but smelled like old oil and not sure how to fix that. This hotel also needs an exterminator to Eliminate all the cockroaches running around. The air condition is way too loud and sounds like a car starting every time it turns on, maybe it’s time to update.

A nice family place with a great room close to the beach.

This place is perfect in every way. Huge rooms, fully stocked kitchen equipment, lovely furnishings and thoughtful touches to make you feel right at home. Well decorated and literally across the street from Doheny Beach, the front desk staff is so welcoming and accommodating and will stop at nothing to make you feel right at home. Amazing amenities for such a great value.

Later, we just got here, staying a week. Our stay was just super, friendly staff, very nice rooms, clean, modern, have everything you need. Nice being right across from Ocean with balcony facing it. We are very happy with our stay and would love to return.

This was a nice place to stay while visiting California. It is close to amenities and offers above and underground parking for their guests. The room we stayed in was equipped with a TV in the living room and master bed room. The bathroom was shared between the two bedrooms with an extra sink in the send bathroom. Internet was available in the room and it looked as though each room may have their own hub. A kitchen was also in this suite with all the dinnerware required for at least 4 people.The beach is across the street with a walking path that safely takes you over the roadway out front, or you can stay at the heated pool and hot-tub just out front and watch the day go by in the sun.If you are thinking of visiting Disney Land while you are here it is about 30-45 min up the road, however Universal Studios is a bit more of a stretch with drive times closer to 2-3 hours (one-way) depending on traffic. Maybe the area has tour or shuttle buses during the busy times but it didnt look like it for the off-season.Bottom line, I would visit again in the future.

I have been coming to Capistrano Surfside Inn for many years and will continue to do so. The staff is very kind and helpful and the place is easy and relaxing to stay at. Very clean hotel and pool and close to everything. I love that we have access to bikes, chairs, umbrellas, towels and boogie boards so that I do not have to pack those items myself. Love it!

Friendly customer oriented small resort across from the ocean at Capistrano. They had bikes and helmets to use. Room was well furnished and equipped. WiFi was great. Location was right at the ocean and down the street from the state beach. Capistrano beach shrank due to erosion but nice sunsets.

We love staying at the Surfside Inn. Such great and friendly staff, and the perfect location to the beach. We appreciate the bike rentals, beach chairs, and sand toys to use. Our updated room was beautiful!

This is my Ritz Carlton. This place is affordable and cozy with 5☆ amenities. Ill be back here for sure

Great location across from the beach. Great restaurants are nearby. Dana Point is walking distance . Easy ride to San Clemente Grounds are well maintained as well as the suites. We had a 2 bedroom 2 bath suite ocean viwe. Saw the sunsets every night. It never boring!

Super Clean, friendly staff, good location, wish we could have stayed much longer. Shout out to Tim in Maintenance as he was so friendly and helpful getting us on the road once we f found our tire was low. And good recommendation for wineries in Temecula!! Well be back!

Great place to say near Dana Point.Everything was clean and well maintained. Bar and restaurant close by.

Needs some repairs. Ice machine is not working. Our room has a very annoying buzzing from the return air. We asked for it to be checked but so far nothing has been done. Parking is $20 a night unless you get a spot on the street a couple blocks away but it has been full by the time we arrive back each night.The view is lovely. The location is very nice if you want to have beach time. There is a stop for the free trolley that goes to great beaches and into the town of Dana Point. Total route takes a little over an hour. Drivers are friendly and helpful. There is no tip jar but they can accept tips. This only runs during a few months so check on line.We were traveling to Disneyland each day via the 5 and it was a bit of a high traffic commute. If you dont mind driving in heavy traffic it is okay.

SUPER NICE (THE HOTEL AND STAFF)

Dirty un-maintained room facing a hill in short range. Vents were filthy, top of fan not dusted, furniture dated (compared to ocean side rooms), side of refrigerator delaminating, staff taking very long breaks talking to each other and on the phone in owners lounge to the point I couldnt work on my PC, ceiling issues, and dirty floors. Cat urine smell also. I did ask to be moved but they said there were no rooms available, even though there were. Pics attached. Im embarrassed for them. Their ocean view rooms are lovely. But they should close down the rooms facing the hill until they can remodel. I got sick in that hillside room and it could be a coincidence or maybe the dishes werent quite washed. Ill never know on that one.

This resort is a great place to spend a weekend or longer! Nice sized rooms with a stocked kitchenette, patio with bbq and furniture. They also offer bikes and beach equipment for use during your stay. Located right offof PCH with only a short walk to Doheny State Beach and a few miles to the Ocean Institute.

Lets start with the room. It was advertised as a 1 bedroom suite with king bed + sofabed. The bedroom had a queen bed, and the hotel staff informed me there are no king beds in any of the 1 bedroom suites. The bed was uncomfortable, the shower head was held in place with a rubber band, the wall-mounted TV was aimed at the ceiling (and not adjustable) and had wires dangling from it. Twice, I stepped on broken glass that was left on the floor. And the Wi-Fi was misconfigured, making it useless for my needs. All around, terrible, especially given the high price.This site also lists wi-fi and parking as free, but they are part of the $15 per night mandatory resort fee. Lets be clear, this is a roadside inn, not a resort. These fees are shady at best and in a place like this, more of an outright lie. Dont be fooled by the listed rates.Both the bed and the resort fee complaints were dismissed by the staff, who had no interest in providing good customer service. Avoid this place.The only nice thing

Great space, great price, great location. Very clean and beds comfortable. Pool was broken day we checked in, however, was repaired by 10:00 am next morning. Have a feeling pool equipment could use upgrading to prevent breakdowns. Some easy updates could be made,. Cabinet fronts and fridge placement. Also, could use a few more kitchen supplies. More frying pans and mixing bowls. Also, concerned about grill area, enclosed porch. Didn’t feel it was safe to use. I would definitely stay here again, especially because of price, size and cleanliness. Also, they had beach chairs and equipment you could sign out at no cost. Nice!

Very peacefu, Clean, large bedrooms and living Room. Got a Room with a beach view. The only issue is that you cannot access the beach unless you climb 3 flights of stairs each way to cross the Bridge to get to the other side. Then the beach itself is all full with Rocks. Bring swimming shoes.

Rooms are well furnished and very clean. Even had a bbq on the balcony that worked perfectly. Beach is right across the street and location is within 1 hour of San Diego to the south and LA to the north. Very impressed

I liked everything about this property. It was so wonderful that we wanted to extend our stay and are looking into reservations during summer! We loved the pool table in the rec room, the beach chairs & umbrellas, the proximity to the beach, the staff, their Margarita Monday happy hour and so much more. Plus, the rooms appear to all be newly remodeled and they are gorgeous!!!

Nice staff. Thought we were booking a room with a view but alas there was no view. But overall the place was fine. We only had one night here as we were on our way down South.

We had a great ocean view and a wonderful balcony with a grill, table and chairs . The kitchen had every appliance and utensils I needed . No Keurig in the room but one on the main floor . A conventional coffee maker was in the room . There were plenty of towels, a nice large shower with lots of elbow room . Private toilet . Loved having an additional sink and mirror in the bedroom . The only drawback was the musty smell . I had to get an air freshener . I finally figured out the odor was in the bathroom but permeated the entire room. Next time I’ll bring a plug in air purifier . The pool and hot tub was great . Plenty of parking outside and in a garage . The location is wonderful . You can walk across the street to the beach . Amtrak is close by so it can get noisy if the door is open . The staff was very nice and helpful . I would go back for sure .

Perfect in every way, the price, the location, the amenities and the staff! Beautiful updated room that had everything we needed and then some. My only regret was we only booked one night since we were just passing through. We will definitely be back.

This is a great place to stay. Very friendly staff and very clean and maintained. I wasnt aware this is a timeshare location. There was a mention of it, but no sales pressure. Right across the PCH to the beach. Good restaurant and bar selection within walking distance. Harbor and Mission very close.

Was able to check in early and the whole staff was wonderful and professional. Will be going back in April.

Overall good value. It was raining and we couldn’t use everything they had to offer like pool or bikes. Also the beach was close but due to the weather we didn’t go outside and couldn’t see it from inside. Our window faced the steep hillside. This wan’t clear when booking. Had issues with the tv which the staff resolved most of it. Lots of space and full kitchen was a plus.

Loved this place. Small. Out of the way. Quiet. The room I stayed in had a small balcony with a bbq grill. Coupled with a villa and we had a great time cooking there.Complimentary bikes got us around the area.

This is a great place to stay in southern orange county right across from beach. Rooms are well equipped and you cant ask for more with the view and a few restaurants even in walking distance !

The property had an amazing ocean view, close to the water. The room amenities felt like home, the decor was great, awesome jet tub in the room. Good location, near restaurants. Free bikes to use, daily activities. It was a great place to stay.

Dis-repair on steroids! Old mattresses, uncomfortable. Everything needs to be renovated! Beach across the highway is a huge climb over the train tracks and when you get there the beach is solid rocks. Jacuzzi tub in bathroom is nasty with rusted jets and a huge waste of space. Carpet threadbare and dirty. Working out requires a key from the desk. Small room jammed with equipment. Phone message blinked constantly. Could not disable. Called desk and they said to unplug it. Key reader on door only reads card about 1 in 4 tries! Never again!

Beautiful inn with lots of amenities. Room has kitchen with dishes, grill for cooking on balcony. Bathroom is gorgeous with two separate sink areas.

Me and my family stayed for 3 nights. We had a great experience with our room more then we expected and staff was very helpful. We will definitely stay here again.

Love the location and layout but sure needs more attention to maintenance and especially to housekeeping. Workers are friendly to guests but some have very poor work ethic.

Very nice resort. Our unit was comfortable and there was five of us! We had a small ocean view and we could hear the ocean roar! Nice that other ocean towns were close to us.

Clean. Has some small amenities (pool, hot tub, gym, lounge, etc.). Parking is limited. They have coin operated machines for laundry which I thought was kind of lame (there are a lot of additional fees that really should be included).The staff is friendly however one of the women at the front desk gives horrible directions; so make sure you have her clarify. The pull out sofa bed is ATROCIOUS! Typically these are not the “comfiest” however it literally felt like I was laying on top of a bunch of bars and springs with nothing in between but a sheet. They offered to bring up a topper to help make it more comfortable which, I thought was a nice attempt to help accommodate except they never brought it up. We spoke to the same woman at the front desk TWICE who assured us it would be brought up...We were lucky enough to get an ocean view but according to their packet usually the owners are the only ones who can request/reserve them ahead of time. The nicest part of our room was the bathroom.It’s an older hotel and compared to some of the other hotels around here it’s moderately priced but at BEST it’s sub-par.

Very friendly, helpful staff. Well maintained property. Excellent value. Well organized.We knew the property faces PCH and the Coaster, so that noise was not a surprise. Kitchen had everything we needed and more. Free shuttle stops here. Very convenient for the ferry to Catalina, which was our purpose. Lovely sunsets from the balcony.

Our check in person Kim was the friendliest and most helpful associate I have ever encountered shes a A+!! The condo was nice n clean and roomy stocked with everything we needed. The only thing I didnt like was check out at 10:00 am but would definitely stay there again.

Beautiful rooms, view and area! Its amazing. Bbq grill on balcony. Double spa tub and shower. Patio furniture and beautiful furnishings that were very beachy. Bikes available for riding free of charge.

Our stay was great. The desk staff is excellent: knowledgeable and friendly. The trolley that picks you up outside the Inn was the best. The room was fine. I would suggest better, healthier food options for the orientation meeting, though! Maybe fresh fruit and juice?

It is very convenient hotel, located just across Capistrano beach. Big living room, full kitchen, big bath with jet, good balcony where you can smoke.Small things need to be improved: no cleaning if you dont ask for additional price, matrass in sofa was very old - you felt all springs there

The rooms are cozy. The views are nice. The staff seem nice. I was there for a vacation for a week. The furniture seems old and the beds are too soft. But I enjoyed the location and the big tub.

They charged an unadvertised daily resort fee.

Broken Elevator, dirty floors, poor housekeeping services, key cards that don’t work. Got rags instead of towels when we had to go get them cause housekeeping didn’t show up. I will never stay here again.

Ive stayed here a number of times as my parents have a time share here. The accommodations are above average, and the location is right across the street from the beach. They have bikes and boogie boards. A great life to spend a couple days if youre in the area.

Perfect for a little get away! Every room has a view of the Ocean. The balcony has a grill. Full kitchen for cooking. The staff is fantastic! Only needed a new sofa sleeper mattress.

This Inn is directly on the ocean. It was just a short walk to the beach, and it was close to two areas with nice restaurants and activities.

Room was laid out nice.. very clean and reasonably quiet. The one set-back (which prevented 5 stars)... tiny TVs.. time for bigger screens guys.. they cost less than the 27& 32 you bought back in 2005?

Loved it, great room and service. Only complaint is that we had to buy toilet paper because there was only half a roll left when we got there...

We arrived at the Capistrano Surfside Inn late in the afternoon after driving from Vegas. We were met by a very polite and helpful desk attendant who got us right into our room. My kids (ages 12,13,16) were excited to get on the beach and that is exactly what makes this property so great. The hotel is located directly on a crosswalk to cross the road and then up and over the railroad tracks into the beach area. Granted, you do have to cross a road and set of railroad tracks, but you are on the beach in three minutes! The room, although a little dated, was comfortable, well stocked, and clean. There were bikes and boogie boards available, and the kids did spend some time in hot tub and pool. In the morning hotel staff directed me to their lounge where they had coffee waiting. Overall, considering price paid, I would consider this a great value and would definitely stay there again.

Small, quaint Timeshare complex. All year round heated pool, friendly staff with some newly remodeled rooms that included granite countertops, ceramic tile floors, and extremely large shower/bathtubs. Right across the street from the beach in a great location....and 2 short minutes drive to Dana Point Wharf with some great dining, and quaint shops. Disney was only 25-30 away up North....and Rose Parade was just over an hour.

The staff is nice and accommodative 24/7. The place is a little old but it gets the job done. I would call it cozy hot tubs in the rooms are Plus

Overall a great place to stay. Could use a few maintenance touch ups, a little better cleaning, and a little more supplies to get you started (trash bags, toilet paper, etc.). Good resources available to enjoy your stay (bikes, boogie boards, beach chairs, etc.).

Rooms are spacious and well appointed. Location is ideal. VIEW horrible. Unless you get an ocean view you will be looking at the face of a cliff about 20 feet away. They say mountain view. The only way to see sky is to stand at the edge of balcony and look up. If you were coming for a relaxing vacation, sitting on a balcony looking at the ocean, BEWARE. Staff holding ocean rooms for owners of Surfside who MAY show up. GPX are not considered owners

Love Capistrano Surfside Inn! The staff is very friendly and it is a great location! We love walking the beach, riding bikes, beach bonfires, and spending time at Doheny Beach and Park.

Home away from home. Always a pleasure. Cant beat the location on Capistrano Bight and the hot tub is always welcoming.

This was a great place. The rooms were large and clean. The only thing that could be improved is the beds, which were hard. Other than that, it was absolutely wonderful and the location was GREAT.

The location is great for a southern California vacation, couples or a family. A pool and easy beach access make it even better. The staff is friendly and helpful.

The staff were exemplary. Very attentive, responsive, and motivated. Wade was especially helpful. They have activities, they have beach chairs, boards, bikes for free. A nice lounge with a pool table, card table, we were very comfortable. Capistrano Inn is an older Inn owned by timesharers. Needs upgrading but still everything was in fine condition. We had the 2 bd, 1 bath plus sofa bed. Balcony was refreshing and private. The pool was decent. All very nice.

This place is disgusting in more ways than one. We used Hotels Tonight to book a room here. Upon check-in they didnt have our reservation on file, but in the end they were able to find us a room. The room spelled like cat urine and the shower flooded the entire bathroom. A squeegee on a stick was their solution to this problem.In the morning the hotel staff was apologetic and admitted that the bathroom floor wasnt graded correctly and that theyve been trying to get the urine smell out of the room for a long time. They said they would try and get us a full refund.The General Manager rejected the refund request twice. The rationale was that we didnt complain during our stay, that there were other rooms available, and that the room didnt smell or have flooding issues. We did complain, the staff admitted to these known issues, and upon check-in the night receptionist basically told us we were lucky to get the room he found for us.This place needs to get its act together. Gross accommodations and horrible management. Avoid.
