Ive only been here once for the DMAs Margaret Atwood talk. The venue was beautiful and I had a seat high up on the balcony, 3rd row from the edge of the balcony. You get what you pay for. Its far away but you can still see and hear the speaker fine. AC was fabulous. Especially since the day I went was so humid and hot.
Very clean well organized staff also good drink selection on concert days
Awful experience! Paid good money for seats in the first balcony. The seats are tiny. My husband and I are not big people, but our knees touched the seats in front of us. A larger gentleman with a cane in the row in front of us could not sit in his seat and had to leave. The people were so packed in the rows that we were sitting on top of each other. I could smell the person next to me.When anyone had to get up, the row had to stand up and no one behind that row could see the stage. People couldn’t find their poorly labeled seats, so while they stood there lost no one could see the stage. The ushers and door holders were so loud, talking and laughing. The sound reverberated terribly.Maybe if you pay enough to sit in the floor it would be worth it, but if not, stay home. My husband and I will not return to this venue.
The staff was so amazing! I had my 85 year old Great aunt with me and they were so helpful with accommodating us with the wheel chair.
Comfortable venue for a music concert. Saw Sarah McLachlan here recently. Due to auditorium size and layout, the ambience was interrupted every time a concert goer entered/exited the show. Very irritating!
The auditorium is beautiful. My only complaint is there is no close parking for handicapped or disabled people. One other complaint would be the lack of handicapped bathrooms. There are none on the 1st or 2nd floor. Only one is in the basement and it makes it really inconvenient when u might need to go during a performance.
This is like the Saenger Theatre in Nola. Beautiful and the perfect atmosphere for the voice of an angel like SARAH MCLACHLAN #AMAZING
It has a storied history. The list of people who have been on stage at McFarlin over its long existence are some of Americas most accomplished. And that includes authors, thinkers, dancers, singers of every musical genre, politicians, including at least one ex president. The publics access to events at McFarlin showcases how a university enhances community life.
Show was great. The auditorium was kept nice and cool and had good acoustics.
Beautiful architecture. Clean Bathroom great sound ! Gorgeous campus S.M.U
Nice facility. Anything around row P or closer is a solid seat
Enjoyed the show. Intermission 20min and still waiting for lavatories. No beverage sold or allowed in theaters.
I really enjoyed the DMA Margaret Atwood event with Krys Boyd at McFarlin Auditorium. Our seats were up high, but the view of the stage and the speakers was just fine. Parking was a little challenge, but side streets provided adequate space (which would be helpful for future guests to know about). Overall, it was a great time!
Management team doing a pretty good job by keeping this iconic place great. Very good atmosphere and I enjoyed the show.
Beautiful architecture inside, and outside as well. best part was SMU graduation! Classy.... even my own graduation wasnt in a facility as pretty as this.
I attended my nieces dance recital here and it was great! The building is massive with clean bathrooms. The decor is very upscale and polished and I think anyone would be proud to host an event here.
A large intimate venue with fantastic acoustic located on the SMU campus. This auditorium isnt huge but it is large enough that some of the seat are pretty far away from the stage. What really stood out was the acoustics and sound system, it is a great place for music concerts, I would go again.
Beautiful interior, excellent view, helpful staff. Wife says handicap bathroom stalls need repairs and perhaps updating.
Ballet was great wished they had some refreshments like bottled water
Ive seen a few lectures here and Im always finding something new in the details of this auditorium. Seats are comfortable and the facility is easy to navigate plus the SMU campus is beautiful to walk through.
Lovely building on a lovely campus. There are really no bad seats.
One the worst auditorium for shows and opera. Seats are very uncomfortable and if you don’t get the first row seats of every section, you get blocked views for sure. Rude audience, many brought small kids to the opera and they kept talking loud and kicking the back of seats. Unorganized theatre staff, they allowed late comers even 30mins into the show!! Entire row needs to stand up and let them pass. Very annoying. My first and last time to SMU Mcfarlin Auditorium.
Attended the Jonathan Butler Peices of a Dream concert recently and had a fabulous time. The performances were great and the facility was very good. The staff was helpful and attentive. Concessions were reasonably priced and appropriate for the Concert.
I was assaulted by an auditorium employee.I brought my daughter to see the Daniel Tiger play at this auditorium. My husband and daughter got settled into their seats, and I made my way out to the foyer to purchase a tee shirt. As I went back to the door, the employee stopped me and said that I wasn’t allowed back in. I showed her my ticket, stating that I had already been admitted and was just going back to my seat. She said that the show was about to start, and I was no longer able to enter. Seeing that there were lots of other people entering the venue, I placed my hand on the handle to open the door. That’s when the women grabbed me by the arm, and starting yelling I wasn’t allowed in. She held on to me, and wouldn’t let me move. I told her to get her hands off me, and at that moment another employee opened the door from the other side. I pulled my arm away, and and pushed past her to get inside. I quickly made my way back to my husband and told him what happened. At intermission, I spoke with a manager regarding the incident. She immediately started making excuses for the employee, stating she might have been confused. Eventually, she acknowledged that I shouldn’t have been grabbed, or held at the door and apologized.I will never go back to a place where this type of behavior is permitted. It definitely dampened the event for my family.
Its a really big performance hall. Acoustics are okay, sight lines are tolerable, even in the third balcony. You prepare a lot of walking, and the parking is such a nightmare that you would think they would have figured it out by now.If you have to go, be aware that the bathrooms are on the second floor. Its much easier to go on the way up then it is to have to make a trip back down. Ushers dont necessarily know things like this. Well, at least in my experience.
Nice architecture and acoustics. The seating was cramped, made for middle school sized people not adults. Parking is a bit challenging because its on a college campus. Do a map street view!! And plan to arrive early with your camera! The campus has some nice areas for photos or just relax and take in the views.
Happy Birthday To Me.
Great venue for concerts. Saw Johnathan Butler. He rocked the house with all that jazz
Great staff beautiful venue! Sound is impeccable
Wonderful venue to hear Rick Steves
This was a nice place and I had a great seat for my nephews graduation.
SMU is a great place
Beautiful.....arrive early for events. parking is challenging
So beautiful and wonderful sound and so many nice workers. Should definitely try this more than once
Beautiful building the concert was great
Very big and nice auditorium
Employees were not the friendliest or most helpful in any way.
Went to see Jonathan Butler and pieces of a dream for Valentines Day. The auditorium sound was great and the staff was friendly.
Beautiful historic auditorium. I have seen lectures and shows here; the venue is well situated for either. Drink service tends to be in the basement and can get busy during intermissions.
Nice place. Never been before.
Great place for SMU
Very spacious and acoustic-like
Fantastic venue. Parking nearby. Recommend 1st balcony front rows.
Venerable old venue for live music. Saw KD Lang there in September and the acoustics were nice. Not too loud, lack of echo distortion of sound. Not a fan of large concert arenas. This one is just large enough to not feel claustrophobic. The SMU campus setting provides nostalgic atmosphere at night. Didn’t have a plan for parking, so save yourself some driving around the campus by locating parking in advance.
This parking is horrible. No police escorts to direct traffic. Here for the Johnathan Butler concert. Fyi. Leave at 5pm for 7pm show.
Lovely venue for the ballet, with the exception of the ridiculous restrooms! There arent restrooms on every floor and mens and womens share the same alcove making it a bottleneck madhouse during intermission!
McFarlin has served me well for great acts through the years.. from Kingston Trio to David Sedaris.
Beautiful. Seats are small though. And if you have a tall person in front you have a tough time.
I Love the #TateTalk
Its a warren backstageHope they have fire drills! Parking is the pits. Great auditorium. Love the place dispite its drawbacks
Beautiful building... great Jazz concert
Lovely auditorium. So cold, however. Bring a wrap!
Its Oak Cliff ... Ohh.
Really nice venue for performances. Very tight seating without any room at all though.
Wonderful theatre and beautifully decorated. I would enjoy seeing more shows here
Great, semi- intimate venue, great for concerts.
Good auditorium but bit old.
Nice auditorium. Not enough parking.
Great theater. Wish there was better parking.
Lovely auditorium.
Great theater!
Great place to catch a show
Old theaters are uncomfortable and parking is complicated. Not easy to get inside if you are mobility impaired.
Beautiful Auditorium on beautiful CampusThe steps were a little steep On the balcony and rows a little too close
Very small, narrow seats. Otherwise, great auditorium for events. Great acoustics.
Beautiful auditorium.
A beautiful auditorium!!!
Beautiful old building heavily monitored by campus security; a little off-putting.
The seats are pretty close together here.
Historic auditorium on SMU campus.
Beautiful venue on SMU campus.
Impressive neoclassical architecture.
Really nice place to go to
Enjoyed the Oak Ridge Boys
My favorite venue for Daniel tiger concerts
Granddaughter performs there.
Their scanners were not working. I was sent to the main floor to get my tickets printed
Beautiful campus so no surprise that the auditorium is beautiful as well!!! Seats are comfortable. No complaints here.
Extremely be auditorium for a graduation.
Great place to learn from smart people
Great auditorium
For our anniversary, i bought my wife tickets to go see Tony Bennett. I took a personal day off from work so we could make a day out of it. It unfortunate that our experience was so horrible.Initially, there was an issue with my tickets. My seats were much further back than what I paid for. However, this was relatively minor and something I could live with, because the venue was beautiful and intimate. The second and most aggrivating issue was that our complaints were falling on deaf ears. There were other patrons sitting in front of me, in this darkened theater, taking videos, pictures (with flash), and browsing on Facebook...with no regard for others around them. First, we complained to the offenders. When that didnt work, my wife and I complained to the staff and we were led to believe something would be done. The offenders were not even talked to. This completely ruined our once in a lifetime experience.I would not go back to this venue if you paid me.
Lovely theater. Seats are a bit small, but Im a big guy and most seats are small to me.
Seats are tight if youre over 58 your knees are hitting the back of the chair and if you are on the larger side you will need to squeeze into the seat
Good venue
Good place to host big events. Good auditoriums with elevated seating.
Great venue for sports, speeches, and various other events. Go mustangs!
Gorgeous venue
Old School SMU. Worked the Debate. Got to meet Brother Ted Cruz.
Great place to see events
