Frank Lloyd Wright designed theater. Needs some maintenance, but worth seeing.
The stage rotates. I wouldn’t have expected that. Not sure what kind of review to give a theater... it’s in a cool part of town, nothing really wrong with it.It’s really all about the content isn’t it? We saw Little Women, but maybe you’re here for some other reason. :-)Parking is a bit scarce, but it’s manageable.
What a fabulous experience we had! This theatre is so unique and the atmosphere is unmatched. We saw one of the most entertaining shows here and the views in the entire theatre are unbeatable. Nestled back in some woods, you really feel special.
I have never been there before. So I was curious as to what I was going to find. it isnt super glamorous but it isnt bad either. But what it is is functional. Theres actually leg room with the seats and the staff seemed pretty efficient. We enjoyed the production that we saw. And I would come back. but I was a little surprised that I didnt feel the Frank Lloyd Wright influence which I was hoping for.
Nice facility, loved the rotating floor. The play Little Women, was excellent
The play Ann was really Great. However a young generation would not understand nor appreciate many of the political references made. Anyone who remembers Ann Richardson will enjoy it immensely.
Historic theater designed by Frank Lloyd Wright himself. In need of some repairs but otherwise a great place for the arts.
Went to see Little Women on Valentines and they put on a great show.
They had some amazing Actors I watched little women and it was awesome I cried and I really loved the way they portrayed the show !!!!!!
Wonderful, intimate theater experience. There are no bad seats in this venue built by Frank Lloyd Wright, located beside Turtle Creek. Dallas theater productions here are always top notch.
Love going to this theater. It is small and personal yet very professional.
Small theatre. Great AnnRichards monologue! Really enjoyed the show
If you’re thirsting for a fun, flourishing theater scene in Dallas, buy a ticket and support this fun place! The shows are always great and the theater itself is quite the building. Have some fun! Go see a performance.
Wonderful productions held here. The theater itself is in desperate need of renovation.
Wonderful production of Little Women. Never enough leg room.
Venue is great and have enjoyed every show I have attended
Great service. they take care of you and put on a good show. very nice theater.
Loved this theater, architecture, on Turtle Creek, Dallas charm, must see... and the performance was great too!
Actors always give their best when performing on hallowed ground, so Wrights architecture creates an enduring magic on many more levels than just the physical. His exhaustive detailing also means each member of the audience is treated to perfect viewing and acoustics even if unaware of the buildings significance.
Wonderful venue. Always interesting selection ofplays.
Fun little theater. Not a bad seat in the house. Good acoustics; didnt have any difficulty hears all of the actors on stage. Strangely put together building, but has amenities all around. Great parking, covered by tree in the adjacent park.
The building is still beautiful, but not user-friendly for an older audience. Not nearly enough wheelchair parking, stairs to all the seats (you could ramp it to help...
Very cozy theater... enjoyed it...
Small, nice quaint theater. Acoustics were great. I saw Trials of Sam Houston there and it was fantastic. Inside the theater was good, exterior was cool/nice. Theater is located in park-like area. There’s pretty good legroom and the incline is steep enough to see over the person in front of you - a lack of cupholders are my only complaint. Snacks there are pricey too: nice place, people, and theater though. Again, I absolutely loved the play Trials of Sam Houston too. Amazingly well acted and produced. Wish I could see it again or any good play at this theater. That guy playing Sam Houston needs to reprise this role again. Everyone was great tho. Average age of audience was almost 75 I bet. Young people should be seeing plays like Trials of Sam Houston. They’re just unaware how much they’d like it.
Its a Frank Loyd Wright, with a, when built, revolutionary revolving stage
This is simply a great place to see a play. While the Wylie is better for the cast technically, it is much less comfortable. In addition, you get the quirks of a Frank Lloyd Wright building and human scale. Highly recommended.
Went to see The Trials of Sam Houston. Theater was cozy and small. Gives you more of an intimate feel for a production. The staff was also very cordial and helpful. The building was designed by Frank Loyd Wright and has a futuristic 50s look to it.
Wonderful theater with comfortable seating and great performances. Not only does it look nice from the outside, but its very nice on the inside. We saw the performance of Frankenstein last night and were blown away by the set and staging. Amazing!
Great venue! Not a bad seat in the house. Ushers were very nice and you are allowed to enjoy a beverage while watching the show.
Such a great place to see a show. I love the theater, I love the shows, and the seats are actually comfortable.
Ive seen several shows here. Its a small venue and very intimate. Even if you are in the back section of the theater, it still feels like you are a part of the action. Before the show, you can purchase a five dollar glass of wine and sit outside on a small patio. Its a lovely place to have a date!
Great space to enjoy a show.
A very nice, small theatre. Great place to see a show. Just saw disaster it was hillarious!
Gotta love the history of this place. Beautiful
Always entertaining and a wonderful venue.Disaster was the best Ive seen there!
A fantastic time.
Everytime I come here, I am wowed. The plays are amazing. Parking is usually never a problem here surprisingly (its Dallas, what?!?!) Its a quaint place. You can walk around a little outside before coming in.
Uptown Players are amazing!
The Kalita Humphreys Theater is a historic and landmark theater in Dallas, Texas. It is the only theater by architect Frank Lloyd Wright and one of the last completed buildings he designed. It was built in 1959 for Dallas Theater Center who still produces original productions on the revolving stage. Other Dallas theater groups also use the Kalita Humphreys Theater throughout the year, including Uptown Players and Second Thought Theater.
Real nice slice.
This place is beautiful, it was my first time seeing a play, went to see The Legend of Georgia McBride, play was amazing, venue was perfection. Small enough to feel warm and inviting but big enough that you dont feel claustrophobic. The interior oozes old world class, its a treat.
I love this theater! A great place to see quality productions in small and intimate environment. They have a snack bar with a limited selection of wine, beer and sodas and a handful of snacks. A bit of advice, the restrooms are limited in quantity so be prepared for a wait at intermission.
Second Thought Theatre shows their plays here. They are a great theater company.Their shows are provocative, expertly cast, and fantastically acted. Its the most consistent company in town. They only stage a few shows a year, and the max audience is only around 40, and every show is unforgettable. Its a neat space.
Love this theater! The performances are always top notch! The theater is unique and location ideal. It is a favorite escape.
The play was 5 star, but the theater needs a major renovation. Its showing its age!
Truely love this place - as much for its history as much for its plays. I sort of wish the city would restore it to its original Frank Wright glory days. Its showing its age. I remember coming in the 70s when it was breath taking to be in the building Frank Lloyd Wright built for Dallas. It drew the best of Hollywood for the people of Dallas. If the DTC can bring the entertainment, why cant the city bring the stage?
The handicp restroom could use some attention. The refreshments were a little expensive. For example a 12 oz Coke was $3, so was a regular bag of Lays chips & a package of M & M candy. The play, The Trail of Sam Houston, was great. I could have used a little more leg room as well. Lastly, I saw several people stumble on the step down.
I was surprisingly moved by the world premier of The Trials of Sam Houston, in which talented DTC actors shift among multiple roles to present a profound protrayal of complicated political and personal relationships. Much more than Texas history! A premier in this theater is appropriate, since a friend of Sam Houstons was Kalita Humphreys great grandfather.
This is a hidden gem. It’s a tiny, almost old school theatre which made me feel like a was taken into the past where you’d have a pocket watch etc. I expected the back seats to be far from the stage, but it is small and thus a very personal experience.
The theatrical space is solid. Parking and bathrooms could use some attention. Parking is fussy and narrow. Bathrooms have a really low counter (ladies room) and sinks get really wet. Also, the carpeting on the bathroom levels needs replacing.
The current home of the Uptown Players, we really enjoy this theatre. Rarely are we disappointed by the productions staged here. The building is lovely and its right next to scenic Turtle Creek. We always enjoy our visits to the Kalita Humphreys Theatre.
I saw sweat with my best friend and it was amazing!
I love this theatre even though its always too cold and its in dire need of a facelift. The architecture is intriguing and the stage is very versatile. Dallas Theatre Center and Uptown Players do amazing productions in this space.
Great show, but someone needs to put better air conditioning in this place. The theater is always stuffy and warm in the summer.
Driven by too many times. This time I saw Uptown Players perform Broadway Our Way. Phenomenal! I cannot wait to return!!
Great place to see shows with great people and service.
This visit was for Frankenstein. It was very well presented. The theater itself is very cozy, but needs a facelift. If you have a non-functioning payphone, its time.
Smaller, more intimate venue than others, and I love it! Free parking, great seats. A gem on Turtle Creek!
Interesting Frank Lloyd Wright design not in the best condition great performance
Uptown Players! This theater is beautifully designed and always wonderful for Uptown Players performances.
Small theatre, with good seating throughout.
Kalita Humphreys Theatre is one of only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed by him ever completed. Showing its age but still a great venue for a play
The play Sweat, and the actors were phenomenal.
Lovely jewel of a theater
Needs to be restored to Wrights original plan
Could use a face and interior lifts?
A great, comfortable theater for the best productions..
Wonderful space and production! Sweat is a must see!
Great performance in an iconic theatre. Dallas Performing Arts Center should restore the Kalita back the way it was in its glory days.
Great ambiance, convenient free parking. I look forward to seeing more shows at this venue.
It could use a face lift, but this quirky building is the home to much of Dallas cultural history. Not very accessible, but worth a visit by itself and a great place to experience theater, film, and whatever other events are offered here.
Nice place
Great theatre! Small venue & cozy seating area make for a really immersive experience.
Great theatre. Going on Aug. 23 for Preview Of New Play starting 24th.
My husband and I have been here twice. It is a smaller, more intimate venue compared to others. The restrooms and water fountain are downstairs.
First play! It was exceptional. I loved it
Uniquely wonderful
This is a great small venue in Dallas to see plays it happens to be very close to my home
Intimate performance space just off Turtle Creek, a bit worn around the edges.
Quaint environment. They host excellent And unique plays. Friendly host.
Visited for a Dallas Theater Center play. Unique theater with revolving stage.
Beautiful theatre. Parking is a problem. Get there early.
Very intimate theater, enjoyed seeing The Trials of Sam Houston here!!
Great staff! The Christians performance was outstanding. Wonderful theater waiting to see what is next.
A perfect venue for plays. Good acoustics. Enough parking.
Great venue and wonderful plays. Weve seen a couple of shows here now and its always a treat!
Opening Night for Dallas Theaters Frankenstein. Wonderful example of Mid-Century Modern architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Not a bad seat in the house.
Great building outside; but, it is aging and not practical for people get in and out.
Great plays and musicals.
Very beautifulThe shows they put on there are amazing
Just awesome, performance and stage design for Frankenstein! Somebody put some serious money on that thing.
