This is very nice hiking area. Trail is at Picchetti Winery. There is ample parking space available. However it does get busy during weekends. Trail is named after wine. There is Zinfandel trail, difficulty level is moderate, there is quite a bit of climbing and downhill. You may see Deer in the preserve. Trail ends at Cooley Picnic Area, where there is a creek as well. Great place for nature lovers and fitness fanatics.
We came here for a walk. Its a beautiful place. The Zinfandel trail is about 2 miles one way - it isnt a loop trail, however if you take it all the way to the end you reach the Cooley picnic area, with bathrooms and tables and a pretty babbling creek. On the walk back you get a fabulous view of the reservoir. The trail was more than half shade, and very lightly used and peaceful.
Great place to visit. I went there in May. The trails around Picchetti Ranch Parking Lot are relaxing. Although there was quite a steep part before the Stevens Creek, the Zinfandel Trail was almost flat, so it was easy to hike. In the middle, I saw a great view of the mountains and Stevens Creek Reservoir.
Loop trail is short. Otherwise excellent: close by, not overcrowded, adjacent to a winery/picnic-area and etc.Picchetti Pond only fills after heavy rains and drains quickly. A special treat :)Abundant deer, views of the Quarry and Reservoir. Winery has peacock(s).Clean restrooms with flush toilets.Occasionally wild turkeys.
Best of nature. Lots of shades and not too many hikers. Ideal for anyone.
This would be a great place for a romantic picnic lunch! Bring your own food, buy a glass of wine and sit at a picnic table watching the peacocks peck for food. Amazing wines! I highly recommend the trip up the mountain!
A great hiking destination. The trails are relatively flat with some sloping up and down. The Zinfandel Trail is mostly flat and the best trail to hike in my opinion since it is also the longest. Towards the beginning of the trail if you start at the winery there are a few short trails that branch off and the Vista Trail brings you to the too of a small hill with some amazing views of the surrounding scenery.
We did wine tasting here and their wines were amazing. The sparkling red wine and the sparkling rose were super nice! We took the small trail on the back which was dry for the season but worth spending sometime there and burn a little calories after the wine.
Good trail. Mostly shady and without too high slopes.
Great place to take the family! Just wish there were more flat ground for the little ones to play on.
Winery very near from anyplace in the south bay. Nice outside and inside seating to enjoy your wine. The tour involves describing how they make the wine from grape to the bottle. And has the standard wine tasting with a snack. A lucky one will get a chance to chop off the head of a wine bottle using a knife. Small hiking trails near the winery are beautiful. Nice place for team outings and weddings. In summer, watch out for the bees!
Nice place for views. I saw Deer and a baby mountain lion here when I went last time.
Beautiful place to picnic and taste the delicious wines!
Nice place to hike. I was the in February after a rainy morning and saw a lot of California newts crossing the trail. I hiked the zinfandel trail to Stevens Creek reservoir and back. It has nice views on the valley. The are a few historical buildings from the time the ranch was created. You can also do some wine tasting at the winery
Good family hikes, great views of the Stephens Creek Reservoir.
Nice and quiet hiking trail - good distance and not terribly steep. Some of the trails are shady but mostly open space. Plenty of parking spots. The trail starts near Picchetti Winery building. There is restroom facility at the beginning of the trail. The pond on the trail is dried out when I was there in July. Trees are mostly oak tress, and be careful of the poison oaks. The drive from Cupertino is not too long and nice winding road.
We didnt stay long, but it was pretty. Wine tasting was $15.
This is a beautiful rustic setting with picnic tables, hiking trails, and oh yes wine. Fine wine. Im bringing back a case. Always great service, wonderful staff, and product
I love hiking here and then getting wine at the Picchetti Winery after! The trails are pretty good; theres some really steep parts but most of the trails are pretty even. I feel that its pretty even between sunny, more meadow-y areas and shady, more forest-y areas. The only thing I dont like, is if you take the Bear Meadow trail all the way to the road, theres no way to loop back, you just have to turn around and head back to the parking lot.
Super to be around all the greenwinery areas the wine its like the bomb. Its like wow.
Nearby, yet feel like far away from hustle and bustle. Nature, trails, fresh air. Good wine
Great, family-friendly winery in Cupertino. Lots of picnic benches, places to sit on the grass and to go for a walk. Winery itself is lovely too with tastings and a small but great selection of wines.
Beautiful, beautiful place to have family gatherings, go for a hike, or anything like that.
Great wine tasting options. A bit crowded on a Saturday afternoon, but its to be expected especially when the place is decked out for a wedding at the outdoor lawn area. The Pinot was really good. The Chardonnay was even better, and I dont even like Chardonnay, or whites for that matter. Reds are my first choice. This Chard was really tasty on a warm afternoon along with some cheeses and charcuterie we brought along.
Its really the magic forest full of beauty, and peace, and secrets)
Great place for a hike, picnic and wine! Fun for groups of friends or families. Love coming back here.
Great open space preserve for a leisurely hike. Even our 2 year old could do the Zinfandel + Orchard Loop Trail. Theres working toilets at the beginning of the trail
Nice place to have a picnic at winery ground and Lots of trails for hiking in the Reserve. Not too crowded.
Beautiful outdoor area with picnic tables and bathrooms. Trails take you all over the preserve as well. The winery is also great with knowledgeable staff and delicious wine choices. Lots of green space to play.
Lovely hiking trail with views on Stevens Creek reservoir
Cute walking trail, beautiful views, quiet picnic area after wine tasting thats great for anyone, including children. The wine staff is great and the vineyard wines are fantastic. Try the port with complimentary chocolate.
Plenty of trails to hike around. Be aware of the wild animals.
The venue is beautiful and the wine is amazing. Be mindful that is is a popular winery, however even when its crowded it is a great location to bring a picnic and enjoy the many wine options they offer
Very fresh air in vicinity area.
Always nice when you can start your hike at a winery. The trail is easy to navigate and the view includes meadows, thick forest and expansive views of Silicon Valley.
Great location. Great trail. But the direction boards are ridiculous, they point you in the wrong direction. The board said Creek trail parking lot and following it led me to a dead end
Beautiful views, great wines, lots of choices. I highly recommend bringing food to eat outside while you enjoy the glass of your choice. They make small batches of everything, so the menu is constantly changing.
Peacocks, picnic tables, and a winery. Good place to visit. Also has a very easy, short hiking trail.
Just a gorgeous winery and decorated so nicely for the holidays.
Wonderful wildflowers abound lush green hills. Had a lovely stroll not strenuous at all. Would suggest a trip soon flowers are almost done. Still have few more weeks but will go quick once rain stops. Enjoy it while you can.
Beautiful forest hiking paths to enjoy the serenity of nature. Parking is right next to the trail, different trails are labeled nicely. I really enioyed my hike there. Ill be visiting again.
Nice spot for hiking with little kids
This is a nice place, and the wine is great. But there are waaay too many children here for a winery, and the bathrooms are gross.
Very nice picking area with couple of great trails. Loved it.
Just a really nice outdoor setting. And the tasting room is gorgeous.
Best place to chill with the great bottle of good vine and great friends.
Nice, convenient access to mountain hiking. Varied terrain and nice choice in paths + a winery option as well. Great choice for a day hike.
A great place to taste (and maybe purchase) some wine and learn a little history. This ranch/winery was started by the Pichetti family, Italian immigrants in the early 1990s. There are informational signs telling their story. You can also hike on the adjacent trail or have a picnic on the grounds. The staff are very pleasant and knowledgeable.
Excellent. Winery nearby!
Great place to have a picnic! Plenty of tables or bring a blanket to sit on the lawn. Get a bottle inside to accompany your lunch
Beautiful and well kept trails easy to get to and the winery was nice
Beautiful views and a relatively easy hike. There is a winery as well with good wines and a nice tasting menu.
Beautiful day for a hike. Trail wasnt too crowded and there was a cool breeze. Wish we had paid more attention that we werent on a loop trail. Went out 1.5 miles then had to turn around and go back
Nice winery with nice views very close to South Bay.
Lovely vineyard by the Cupertino area. I attended for a private corporate affair, & food was catered separately. Next to the vineyard, is a holing trail.A bottle (of white or rosè) will run you ~$30. The Sauvignon Blanc was my favorite of the 2 - crisp and light. The rosè was certainly refreshing, but packed a little punch at the end.
Wine was great, but I did kinda feel a little shamed for tasting as opposed to imbibing the wine youre not going to finish it??. Its 1pm, I am not going to finish 6 glasses of wine. There is a sitting area outside where the tables are inclining and not optimized for sitting and eating tbh because theyre not leveled and thus are uncomfortable. Families go to the sitting area and they have children, so if youre trying to bring your children there, go for it. But if you dont have children and just want to chill, maybe this will be too loud for you. There is a trail that is interesting to walk but it should have sporadic sitting areas which it doesnt.
Alway nice...usually a little or more busy...I tend to hike more than picnic and wine taste
This place was packed on a lovely, sunny weekend afternoon. But the wines were excellent and the staff kind, if a little too busy to pay close, individual attention to us. The setting is gorgeous, however, and well worth a visit--pack a picnic!
A lovely place to plan a casual picnic with family and friends, while sipping some wine, without having to go to Sonoma. The trails and Creek are also nice. Careful with some of the trails, which are slippery and steep
They have great wine and beautiful outdoor space for picnic.
Teriffic place. Very good people.
Nice place to visit with a group, off the city but easily reachable.
Amazing Hike, this place is a hikers paradise, so close within the city limits with a winery and multiple trails shaded and partially sunny, will come here often
Nice space, but the wine was not very good.
This much history imbues a place with a special feeling. I love the old buildings. Good place for a picnic and light hiking.
This is a gem in the Santa Cruz mountains. We did several tastings at other highly rated vineyards and the wines and staff here were the the very best.
Nice hiking close to Cupertino without the crowds of rancho San Antonio
Beautiful place to visit The view of Golden gate is awesome Must visit place in San Francisco
Beautiful tasting room. Very good wine. Definitely worth the trip!
Four stars for the excellent outdoor space. The wine is like 0.5 stars. It’s incredibly mediocre, though you wouldn’t know it from the price.
This is one of my favorite local wineries. Great reds and an amazing white port (rare). The folks in the tasting room always are friendly and very knowledgeable on wine in general. In the summertime, you can picnic there and hike. Or hike up and picnic on top of the hill. The peacocks are usually wandering around in the spring and summer. Enjoy!
Great place to start a hike, have a little picnic on the grass area.
Great place for a hike, a glass of wine and picnic afterwards.
Fun hiking location with decent parking on dirt lot. Note there is a winery next door, but avoid parking your car at the winery if you can. The trailhead is well marked, with a big map pinned behind glass, and also smaller copies of trail map to carry with you. The hike is not particularly strenuous - few elevation changes, and can easily be done with sneakers/tennis shoes. There is supposed to be a lake just shortly after start of trail. Unfortunately, lack of rain means it’s just a bowl with grass growing. Trail path is well marked and worn, so you are not likely to get lost even without a map.The trails are mostly shaded and cool, though there are a few short sections that are exposed and it can get warm under the sun. Most of the trail is relatively narrow and best to walk/hike one person in front of other. The winery also has a few tables for picnic.. and an open space if you wish to sit on grass.Overall, very good trail and hike. Def will do it again!
I have been going there since I was but an infant and still have a wonderous time
Good shade hike
First time here and found it very beautiful up here .
Beautiful winery and nice tasting experience. No food available; so bring something to eat.
This is most wildest hike u can ever have. Lots of birds and views of bay . Good picnic place with parking.
Nice winery with outdoor picnic area. Great place for any age! Pretty hiking trails too with creeks, wildflowers, and nice views of the bay.
The Zinfandel trail is really great. In a short distance you go through two very different eco-zones, one much moister than the other
Great hike, no rattlesnakes or mountain lions.
There are a few historic buildings, a winery and hiking trails that can be adapted to be easy or challenging. A lovely pond/small lake is there, empty some years and overflowing in spring 2019.
Great ambiance. You are still in Cupertino but you feel a million miles away. The tastings are fun and the wine is good. My favorites were the Sauvignon Blanc and the Zinfandel. Perfect wedding venue, too!
Nice hikes, gorgeous views, problem with parking on weekends.
Good pour. Friendly and knowledgeable. Could use some food. So can have a picnic outside with a nice view.
The ranch is good. gives you a thrill of a walk in the wilderness since it is deep into the forest and you wont see much if not any people. it would be good if you can start the hike by early evening especially if you want to taste wine.but overall it was a wonderful hike.
Nice spot for a hike
Gorgeous landscape. Really nice views of the reservoir. The quarry is a huge scar on this brilliant landscape but otherwise amazing
Wonderful moderate trails in mostly shade. When the pond has water it is lovely and the ducks enjoy it.
Delicious wine! Great customer service!
Beautiful area; excellent but expensive wine
Beautiful views. Great little hikes. We were even able to see a deer...
Nice atmosphere for wine tasting. Very nice and helpful staff.
