This is one of my favorite local hiking. Lots of paths and different areas. High point is a beautiful look out
Beautiful hike. New signs are currently being added. The narrower side trails need some markers added, so as not to lose your way. Love the smell of the pine trees.
Great place to go for long walks in woods. Scenic, quiet and peaceful
Amazing place to take your dogs on a walk my dog loves hiking and they have amazing trails to hike.
Beautiful place, plenty of space to socially distance and so many miles to enjoy!
Having these woods in your backyard is great!
Great trails and lots to explore. Definitely bring bug spray in the summer!
Best place to go walking!
️ these woods, great walking trails
Almost died at least once. Beautiful views, if you know how to find it.
Great park to walk, woods and some hills, easy access and parking
Super great find in the Northwest suburbs. Great hiking on the wide paths or feel free to go off on a rugged side trail. Right next to a forest preserve so you can add onto the hike and get some good mileage in. Scenic nature preserve with lots of hills and dales. Only problem is ignorant dog owners who let their dogs off leash. Ive been bitten here twice. When will dog owners learn? BTW, I love dogs and all animals.
Nice place. Used to hunt in here back in the 70s for deer, back before the surrounding fen was purchased by the city. I actually grew up adjunct to the property. They keep busy. Always burning, building, chopping cutting endlessly. Definitely more trees have been chopped than new ones planted, so keep that in mind. I imagine someone knows what they are doing, or are they just creating work?
Within the marked hike / bike / ski gravel trail are number or hiking only trails and they are awesome, medium to sigltly rugged, with surprising elevation changes and some good views, and impressive variety of native plants - it is a natural gem in the middle of suburbia. I tend to see bit more trash than Id like to, so please pack out what you bring in, thank you.
Expansive property, with all different level hikes, paved trail, uphill, dang near rock climb, gorgeous!!
Very crowded this weekend because of the weather
Great place to bike, walk and hike. There are a lot of paths to take. Its also a great place for people who enjoy photography
This is a very beautiful park that is generally deserted most of the time. There is a major trail and secluded trails that go into the woods. I quiet place to enjoy nature.
Very well maintained trails and picnic area
When I ride along the McHenry County bike trail, I love this section of the trail.
Awesome for bike riding!
Watch out for ticks. Recommend to walk or ride a bike with others on this path. It can be challenging with a bike due to inclines and declines. Watch out for tiny ticks for sure. Came home on three dogs with almost a dozen and we only walked the path. Couldnt see them on a white dog until I gave her a bath after the walk. So expect your dog to pick some up for sure.
Great place for a quiet walk with my dogs. Others are very polite when passing with dogs.
Love hiking in this woods, go at least once a week.
I love these trails. There very natural maybe a little rough, but perfect if thats what your looking for.
A large wilderness preserve that offers a wide range of activities.
So convenient to have nature so nearby. When all vehicles are quiet and the diesel trains arent idling unnecessarily in the background it will be super awesome. Especially if people pick up after themselves and keep their dogs on leash.
One of my favorite parks in the area to go adventuring. Trails are great, theres some single track which is nice. Almost always see deer and the occasional coyote.
One of my best places
I have been hiking this spot for over 25 years now....and it never gets old. Its a place of solace and beauty that always leaves me with an elevated heart rate...and cleansed mind. I am grateful for such places~
Very fun hiking trail for a bike, or family. Very enjoyable and great view on top. Come here always
Peaceful walking paths...but watch out for the mosquitos in the summer.
Beautiful as always. The trails CAN get your shoes a bit muddy (and VERY much so depending on how adventurous you are!) but for the most part of an excellent way to get out into nature and get moving. Its a perfect community park and also offers the Nature Center which has more park information and hosts various free events to the public
This places is seriously gorgeous after a fresh snowfall. I was very pleasantly surprised!
Tons of hiking trails there. I hiked 4 miles. It was great. And there is a small lake there. Not sure if fishing is allowed.
Love watching the deer and some elevation on the trails. Good for dogs
Hidden gem in Crystal Lake. Great trails to run. Make sure you take the side paths. Some of the best single track around.
There is an amazingly dense forest cover, one that in the height of summer is most notable. The paths start out gravel, good for hiking or mountain biking. The paths are not suitable for strollers or young children as they can be steep and challenging. The gravel path does however lead to the main Mchenry Country Bike trail.
Great trail system with a variety of moraine, fen, hills, kames, etc. Clean and well managed and with bathrooms and well marked trails
Great place to enjoy nature
No amenities to speak of, but it’s a hidden gem in the urban hellscape of Crystal Lake. The trails are great for walking or running, though a bit hilly for most bikers. The coyotes are organized but so far have declined to attack.
Nice ridge trail if you know where it beginsOuter lower trail, West side as you start upBig hill on the left 1/4 way up, nothing marking trail head going from there
Nice hiking trail.
Great afternoon hike! Lots of smaller off shoots of the main trail to explore. Very hilly which proves to be a decent workout.
The girl I was picking up lived really close.8/8 would go again!
Well groomed trails! Beautiful scenery and an occasional wildlife sighting!
Great place to hangout
Fantastic park. Exciting place to come through especially.
Nice brisk walk. Only problem, dogs not on leashes or owner cleaning up after their dogs.
Great woodland trails with endless unmarked trails. Enjoy the hills in this Veterans Acres adjacent park.
Great place for a family outing or just a good hike
Nice lovely woods - right on the Prairie Path too!
Impressive wooded park for Crystal Lake. Good access via the bike path.
Very peaceful. Nice place to hike
Got Married In These Woods!! Such A Remarkable Place!!!
Great place to hike!
Peaceful place for a walk. Lots of geocaching possibilities!
Great for a walk, but the dusk hours are mosquito-ridden.
Absolutely beautiful
