This is a hidden little attraction of Columbus. Although it isnt huge, it is quite an amazing place with plenty of animals and fun things to do (especially for small children). They also host things such as birthday parties, summer camps, and a variety of other events throughout the year. If you have children, I would definitely suggest checking them out!
Amazing place for little kids. I took my son (5 years old) to the Reptile Show this morning and he loved it. Great variety of specimens, dinosaur fossils, the bee keeping was fascinating, and there was plenty of hands-on to do on site, too. Staff was very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. We had a great time.
Had a blast today! Went to a birthday party and it was awesome. My girls had a blast. Def will be back to bring my son as well at some point. Located across from the infantry museum on Lumpkin road. Really cool place to check out. The kids got to sit on stage in the auditorium for a special show for the party and got to see reptiles and learn some cool info!
I look forward to returning to Oxbow again. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and the experience lent it self to lots of learning. The trails were well maintained and fun to walk, including the opportunity to see the wetlands. If you haven’t been and are considering a visit I highly recommend you go. My only wish is that they had more robust offering in their gift shop. I was also disappointed to be offered a plastic bag for what I did purchase. Hoping the environmental learning center will soon go the way of paper.
Exceptional experience here! Our birthday party guide was super fun, engaging and entertaining! All of the kids had a great time and I even heard a few say it was the coolest party ever! Thank for such a fun time!
Great educational facility for kids. The animals are incredibly interesting and regional so it’s nice to see efforts being taken to preserve them in the area. They are partnered with Columbus State and are donations only so you can’t go wrong supporting them. My boys had a blast getting up close to the snakes and alligators, even if I’m not as comfortable!
This is such a great facility. I love how it is a place for children to learn what is going on with the various species that live near them. My daughter loved seeing the animals that were inside and learning about them as well. They had a nice hiking trail as well.
Attendes a childs birthday party and it was a great location. The kids were taught how to make homemade lava lamps. It was great!
Very nice place to visit
We was there just for a quick visit, lots of things goes through reconstruction /cleaning so we did not see all. But definitely fun place to go and we will come back to see all they have again. Entrance is free although recommended contribution is 5$ and it worth it to give to help keep this place.
Good place to let the children burn off extra energy in a learning environment.
Oxbow Meadows is a beautiful place for people of any age to visit because it has so much to offer. From summer programs for children to bird watching or biking along the Riverwalk, this place has it all. There are many exhibits of live reptiles indoors and sometimes there are live reptile shows. You can even have your childs birthday party here featuring a reptile show! You will be very impressed with the staffs helpfulness and expertise!
Just the right size for our preschooler - keeps him busy and occupied and interested in nature. Also enjoy bringing the dog to the dog park. We’re looking forward to bringing bikes sometime to ride a ways down the River trail.
On the 23 of April the Reptile Fest at Oxbow Meadows was held. This was a joy to see and the price was 5 bucks to get in and a few extra dollars for the Canopy which is a trail in the trees. Because the day I went they had all kinds of goodies to do like those inflatable stuff for the children and a wildlife family that brought their pets along. They were not dogs and cats. There were large albino python, a gator, a few hedgehogs and one of those was a albino, and a vulture which turned out to be a very large bird. Plus a few more that I cant remember the names of.Oxbow meadows is a learning center as far as I know it is open year round but they are off as far as I know on Sundays. The people are nice, the place is clean, your children and you will have a fun time regardless what part of the year you come. One thing to keep in mind is if you plan to take the walking trail and you have small children bring a stroller because the walk goes a long ways. Its only short if you turn around and go back the same way you came.Dont miss going inside the building and seeing their many awesome aquariums they have set up. They have stuffed animals as well and your children or you can get up close to them.Oxbow has all kinds of reptiles snakes, turtles of all sizes, gators, lizards and fish. I am sure your children will love it as much as you do. If you want to wait for the next Reptile Fest then keep an eye out on its day event held once a year in the spring I believe that adds a few extras for the whole family to enjoy. It was fun and I plan to go next year if I can. Crossing my fingers.
Grew up playing with my dogs in these wetlands and was always afraid what would happen to them. Am so happy this is their present and future.
Nice place to visit when in the Columbus ga area
Nice calm place to take the kids to look at local wildlife. We should have more places like this around here to keep kids out of trouble and learn at the same time
