We have been long time visitors to this place for years. We were coming daily last year, the kids loved it there so much! The staff is wonderful, and so incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. It is like a second home to us. I cant recommend it enough! There is a lot of open space to run around and have a picnic past the butterfly garden, and if you follow the path all the way down there is a marsh with the largest dragonflies you will ever see in your life - just remember bug spray!
We wanted to do something fun with the kiddos, but not something that would wear us adults out because we had a long drive home.( We were on vacation.) This place was so awesome the kids got to look at live animals the playground was full of interactive and engaging things. There were so many unique, learning and environment friendly things for the kids to do. There was a price but it was definitely worth it. (I tried to avoid the pictures of my kids, so it doesnt really do the actual playground justice but these are some of the cute little things that were around.) This is one of those places where if I lived close by I would definitely buy a pass.
My kids loved this!! The trails are beautiful and very scenic. This is a perfect place to enjoy nature.
This place is fantastic! A themed area botanical garden designed for 3 to 9 year olds, although it offers opportunities for all ages. The pond always seems to have tadpoles of all stages in it. And lots of full grown frogs that dont jump away so yo can really study them. The Discovery tree has 3 levels and many fun little surprises. Next to that is the train garden with 4 tracks running through some of your favorite storybook characters. There is almost to much to tell. You can often sample vegetables straight from the garden if things are ripe. Just talk to a naturalist. The programs they have 3 times a day are both entertaining and educational. Really well done.It is the best park in the Great Parks system.
I was gifted an year pass to this garden center. My sons are 3 and 5 for this park and very much enjoyed it all. I am very happy for how in touch with nature this allows me and my sons to be. Staff have lessons for the children for Watering flowers plants, learning about wildlife animals, compost, and also includes short story readings from books. A peaceful playful and educational place. The garden center includes a gift store, cafe /outdoor eating area for picnics, peaceful medication area and walking paths with some hills.
Great place to take the kids. They love it.
We love Highfield Discovery Garden!! The frog garden is enough to entertain the kids all day, but then they have a playground, a place to water plants (honestly more of a place for kids to water themselves), interactive classes, and more. A heads up, kids under 8 have the most fun here. Watch out if you have a runner, the place is fenced in but theres a big wooded area down the hill from the butterfly garden. Also when the kids go into the play area it is impossible to see them without going on. I am okay with that with the older kids if its not busy, but I would never let a toddler in there without going in since there are multiple ways out you cant see from either side
Always a wonderful experience with my grandkids.
My 3 year old daughter absolutely loves this place! And for good reason! I finally got a chance to take her and OH MY GOODNESS! Its like I walked into a storybook garden!I was welcomed very warmly by the staff inside the cottage. Its only $5 a person! The garden was absolutely beautiful and well kept. The tree house was so fun and even big enough for me to climb into with my daughter! She loves the trains that run on tracks in a very cute little fairy-like city. Theres a cute little tea house with little cups and plates on a table for the kids to play with.Im absolutely in love with this place and will be bringing my little girl back for lots more fun in the spring.
Price is a little steep, but fun for kids.
This is such an amazing place for kids. There is a large vegetable garden where kids can even pick a vegetable if any are ripe. There are various classes and programs offered. There is a wide variety of play equipment, including a train display, playground, tea house, and various standalone pieces, like giant mushrooms (great for pictures)! On hot days, people have to actually push me out of the mist tunnel, otherwise Ill stay right there. This is a great place for your kids to explore and have fun (and maybe even learn something)!
This is definitely a cool place. They all types of neat stuff to do with the kids and you can make it an all day event for cheap.
Great kids park within a park. Lots of places for kids to run, explore and use their imagination.
Wonderful place to visit with the kids!
Great place to take kids.
Drove over an hour to take my 2 girls here just to see a sign that starting in November they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. It would have been nice if someone would have updated the website to let people know.
Cute park! I took my five year old son. The frog pond and shaky bridge were both a hit. I will admit he enjoyed just hiking the area best so we probably wont return just for my childs benefit. For the five dollar entry fee, he was really almost too old.for.some of the attractions. Still worth checking out!!!
Highfield, inside the gorgeous Glenwood Gardens, is a hidden treat for young children. The discovery gardens are lovely, and the whole place is set up to encourage you to slow down and explore/learn about your environment. There is a large area where children can roam, but no slides, swings, etc. Its much more gentle! Toddlers and preschool age children will especially enjoy it.Depending on the season, there are daily programs surrounding a theme. The programs generally include a literary element (childrens book) and time outside looking for, for example, spiders or frogs. If you live anywhere close to Glenwood gardens, get a season pass. Its inexpensive and highly worth it.
It was really nice
We loved it. Its just hard to pay for all of these places all of the time, Id love one big all inclusive season pass.
Love this place ..its a great place for adults and children
Beautiful garden to play and learn with interactive feature and instructor led story time. Well worth the $5 fee per person.
Kids loved such a relaxing places to let little ones explore nature with a little fairy tale flair.
Not bad more opened play would improve
Love the imagination fun we have here!!!
A magical place for children and adults! Bathrooms were clean, staff was friendly, and the landscaping was beautiful!
One of the most beautiful parks in the area. We love it!
Beautiful placeMy grandkids love all there is to play on.
Well worth the cost of an anual membership. My 4yo prefers Highfield over the zoo and aquarium!
Even in February, my five year old had a great time running around, and seeing the garden scale trains. It was only $4 for me and the 5yo. My 1yo got in for free, but even he enjoyed looking at the decorations. We will go back in the spring/summer months to enjoy the gardens, too.
Was here for a birthday party. Great place.
An adorable place to bring kids of all ages to explore and learn. There is a three-story play tree that you can climb in and explore (parts are fully handicap accessible). There are working model trains that run on impressive miniature tracks, bridges and through tunnels. There are landscaped gardens and containers and hidden fairies to find. They have nature programs several times a day.
Mosquitoes were a bit of a problem. But the kids loved it. Model trains, a great play area and a fish pond kept the kids busy. My daughter had a little tea party in the playhouses.
Very beautiful scenery definitely recommend with family
My newly turned three and five year old enjoyed, though I felt the older one was on the cusp of being too old. Best suited for the younger ones, I think.
The kids thought it was great, but would have liked more things to do. Theres climbing and pretend playing, but swings or jungle bars might be nice.
Very fun and neat place to visit.
Great place for kids to explore. Its all about the kids and educational here.
Very clean and well kept park
Huge money grab. Get your moneys worth and go somewhere else.
Awesome place for relaxation and spending time with kiddos!
The Highfield Discovery Garden is a childrens park ancillary to Glenwood Gardens. As you enter Glenwood Gardens, the mansion on the left is the entrance to the Discovery Garden, and for a nominal fee kids can play in their big treehouse structure, wizard house, playhouse, participate in their daily educational programs, build fairy gardens, and visit the frog pond (though frogs tend to congregate their exclusively in the warmer times of the year). If you have kids (perhaps 10 and under), this is a great place to bring them to get some energy out. Its rarely super-busy and is pretty sparse in the winter.
Our favorite park..
Beautiful trail
Too expensive for what it is. You have to pay for everyone who is with you even if you only have 1 child of age to enjoy it.
Fun for kids
Love the trains!
Unique, family friendly
Love it
