Place is under construction so this is a great opportunity to visit it now and in three years from now! Start from Visitors Center located near the Pullmans Monument where you can watch 15 min. movie about the history. I recommend to take guided by Rangers tour which is outside in the park and lasts approx. 45 min. Schedule is available in Visitors Center. No fees for entrance. There is very cozy coffee place with Wi-fi available, just across the Church where you can also buy lemonade, sandwich, salad or pizza.

Interesting historic and architectural monument including older industrial buildings and a nice residential neighborhood to stroll through. Some buildings are better maintained than others, although a restoration project of the clock tower and adjoining structure is beginning soon.

A great place to learn about George Pullmans master planned community. The visitor center, located in the heart of the Pullman District, has artifacts and a short video related to the rise and fall, then rise of the Pullman District. It is quite interesting and definitely worth a visit. While youre there, join the preservation society so you can help this wonderful historic gem in the heart of the industrial South Side.

Super cool area with lots of history. Walked around the neighborhood and got to talk to a local that told us all about the area and history and the house. They are in the process of upgrading/maintaining the park and the park office. I can’t wait to go back when it’s completed.

Really neat area and historical site with a lot of information about an important part of the city and Americas railroad transportation industry. Theyve done and continue to do a great job of maintaining this historical landmark and the accompanying grounds. The historical homes and surrounding neighborhood were planned and developed by the Pullman Company to provide its workers a beautiful place to live during the often otherwise harsh working conditions. Over 100yrs later its beauty is well appreciated!

This was a neat place to visit. The history about this area was very interesting. There is a lot to see, so you need to give yourself a few hours to see everything. There are several buildings being remodeled, so I believe it will only get better with time. A definite place to visit.

My son was doing a history project. Just walking the neighborhood and reading the plaques was cool! We took lots of pictures and neighbors were friendly. Sadly the museum was closed due to Covid. We will catch that next time.

Lovely, live history lesson! Guided walking tours on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays! The whole site isnt working, yet, but I cant wait until it does!

I like that this place is truly a part of the community. When I was there, part of the visitor center was closed because they were hosting a community event. I admire the National Monument and the community working together. The site has many buildings that are interesting to folks who enjoy history and architecture. Its really interesting to see the adaptive reuse (or disuse) of buildings over time. I hope they are able to reopen the historic hotel at some point!

Beautiful neighborhood with a true community behind it. Wish there was a way to see the inside of the Pullman factory when I was there during the neighborhood open house tour and only the first floor of the Hotel Florence was opened. It is definitely an underrated part of Chicago history

Unbelievable to think this place was new 119 years ago. Part of the area just became a National Park. Other parts are being restored by the City of Chicago. Amazing master planned community by Pullman for the business and the workers. All they needed right where they lived.

My imagination was fired up during the free tour from our guide at the Pullman National Monument. We began with a short video to give much needed background information about this unique social experiment built by Mr. Pullman. As we walked through parts of the still unrenovated town, our guide brought it to life with his stories. He encouraged questions and dialog that helped us understand. Kept the kids engaged as well. I am looking forward to another visit in years to come to see the town continue to be restored.

Very interesting and informative presentation about Black cowboys. I learned a lot. I look forward to attending future discussions at the Pullman Cultural Center.

The visitor center offers a video as an overview of Pullman as well as a simple map for a self-guided walking tour. None of the buildings are open to the public, but it was a nice short walk looking at the architecture.

Great place to bring your kids to teach them some stuff they will never learn in todays Common core infested education system.The staff is more than willing to chat about the days gone by and why this location was made into a National Park.I love areas that revitalize like this, bringing back a time when construction of homes and neighborhoods had flavor.If in Chicago, dont let this being on the south side scare you. We had no reason for real safety concerns between the interstate and this area.

Definitely worth visiting if youre in the area. Pullman has an interesting history and distinctive architecture. Dont miss the neighborhoods annual open house.

It is a monumental experience.

This is a very historic neighborhood in Chicago. Pulls was a business man who built his own town according to his ideas for people to run his rail car factories. It had everything, schools, shopping, fire stations, heated homes, everything needed. He had behavior expectations for his employees, gave them an education, too care of them as well as he could. Its from the late 1800s! A lot of the original buildings still stand and they are working hard to restore them. At one point the entire neighborhood was set to be torn down until the residents stuff up and daughter to save it, working hard to restore it. First it became a state park... It is now a national park. It was awesome walking through the neighborhood, it was so advanced for its time, they are doing a great job restoring it and I cant wait to go back in a couple years when they have the hotel restored and move the visitor center into it. Great park, its a historical treasure for sure. One man trying to change the world for the better.

Feel this community has a lot to offer. A lot of creative talented people reside in this quaint neighborhood. Very nice and genuine, people care about your well being and journey. Pretty neat to be able to network with a group of people trying to make artistic things happen. Also feel supported along the way to help you grow and expand into the best version of yourself. Feel fortunate to be able live here and experience all that Pullman has to offer. Glad to be a part of it all.

Interesting site, which will be much better once more of the structures have been restored. Somewhat remote, as its beyond the end of the Red line. The walking map is quite spread out, so lots of walking - its mostly parallel with the bus route so you can catch a bus near the end rather than having to walk all the way back to the beginning. Heres hoping itll be farther along by the time of the eclipse.

This is a very interesting and cool little nugget on the south side of Chicago. It’s a newer National Park Site so it’s got some work ahead of it but would visit again for sure. If you are a train enthusiast, this is a great stop. Cool just even driving through the neighborhood and seeing the transformation occurring.

Visit and take the informational tour inside before you walk the national monument!Learned so much about the community, history of the Pullman Rail Car Company, and the impact this company had on industry worldwide!

Pullman National Monument is a work in progress, but it is worth a visit now, if only to see the incredible transformation. The volunteers at the temporary visitor center are knowledgeable and friendly, and the self-guided tour is interesting and informative. I look forward to returning in a couple of years.

I have had to work around the area several times and always want to go back and explore more. The buildings are beautiful, and do are some of the grounds. Great place to photograph.

I went to the fresh farmers market yesterday. They are open every Wednesday until October. I like the fresh corn, collar greens, green tomatoes.

Great Chicago & Black history

We had great tour by the ranger. The main movie (there are two) in the center was extremely informative explains how George Pullman came to get into the business of rail cars and create the town through the famous strike and how the community worked (continuing through today) together to keep the preserve the neighborhood). Well worth the visit.

Amazing neighborhood. It still has a lot of work to get it back to tip top shape but it is still an amazing free thing to do. If you have a child between 4 to 18 they can participate in a program called junior ranger program that participants receive a badge for filling out a booklet about the Pullman neighborhood. If you love architecture and history this is a must stop.

Interesting & informative program regarding the underground railroad, in my community.

Youll be surprised at how many movies you know and love that have been filmed around that location.

Not much there yet but the visitor center is being created from the old admin building. I want to come back in 18 months. Lots of stories - the Pullman company, the creation of an ideal town, the most deadly strikes in US history, how the government/courts split up the company, the decline of the town and the first middle class Afro-American jobs as Pullman porters.

Had a great time and learned a lot, I look forward to coming back when the new larger building is completed.

Pullman is an interesting site. It is important to understand as a benchmark in the suppression of labor. The site itself is large and interesting. There are not only places with tour guides but you can also walk around (or better, bike!). There are also a number of restaurants and Argus brewery nearby to check out

Make the stop the next time you drive through the South Side going in or out of Indiana

Super cool museum, they tell of the towns history and show artifacts of the trains. I would recommend visiting if you are in the area as it is a national landmark.

Great architectual and historic sight. Walked around by ourselves & with a park ranger giving us a tour. I wish they would emphasize a bit more that Pullman was pretty much a control freak trying to keep his workers in line and away from the unions. The little lunch place and cafe across from the green church is unassuming but has yummy food and friendly service.

Celebrated George Pullmans birthday with a lecture on his familys residences and a choir singing some songs relevant to the time when he was alive. Well done with Birthday cake and coffee afterwards.

Lots of history and a great community helping to preserve it

It is a nice enough historical place. Good displays and a cool history that bears remembering. But, go during daylight and dont deviate from your route. It is not a safe area. Free parking. If you have a National Parks book you can get it stamped here.

Very interesting and historic neighborhood surrounding the monument. However since its brand new there is not much to see outside the neighborhood and visitors center. Im sure it will be awesome in a couple years.

Really interesting little national historic site, looking forward to it getting further developed. The visitors center has some Pullman history and memorabilia and some information about the Pullman Porters. Id love to see a restored palace car in there one day. They have waking tours of the neighborhood and make you can use on your own to see the unique architecture of this factory town.

I love visiting National sites and have the passport book. This is a newer location and was excited to check it out. I verified the hours online and made the trip. The note, on the door, informed me they were closed for the season. I look forward to visiting, some time in the future, when they are open. I will call ahead before making the trip again.

It is great to see a community banding together to preserve its history. The town of Pullman was the company town built around the factory building the Pullman passenger railroad cars. The walking tour is recommended

Dedicated and knowledgeable national parks staff. Lots of potential yet for more restoration of a place where history was made and valuable lessons of the past were learned - not to be forgotten.

No suveniors to purchase. No tours of the main attractions...the very old buildings. Didnt even have an actual greeting sign with the name of the place...just a banner on the wall. Just got the Parks stamp, drove around to see the buildings and left. NOT one of my favorite Parks units.

Quiet tree lined streets. Walk and wheelchair rolliable ( probably not a real word ; ) ). Love the architecture. Friendly residents.

Went to annual Pullman house tour. It was fantastic as always. I love seeing a part of Chicagos history alive. I hope more people come to the tour next year

When ever they finish its whenever they finish is going to be a great place to visit its unique part of Chicagos history all Chicago and should visit at least once dont forget to ask about the Florence Hotel
