Great little museum with Marchuk exhibition on a top floor. Halyna is a great storyteller who could interest an adult and a toddler (cossacks were the favorites). Marchuk art is just exceptional. Thank you for a lovely rainy Saturday:)Don’t forget to call in advance, with Covid there are limit for number of visitors and timed entry like in any museum now:)
The people who work there are WONDERFUL! Very interesting and short museum about the history of Ukraine. Make sure to have someone who works there to tour and tell you about the pieces that are there. Very interesting to learn about another culture!Admission fee is $5 (Cash and Credit Card accepted)
We loved visiting this museum. I was very surprised by how emotionally moving some of the exhibits are. We spent about 2 hours here and could have easily spent 3 or 4. The entire staff is so friendly and happy to share about the various times in history, exhibits they have, and their own stories. If you are interested in learning about Ukraine or have any family ties, I highly recommend stopping in and giving yourself at least an hour to visit. They do have free on site parking (I was slightly worried about parking before we got there). They have a large variety of beautiful items and history, along with information about current events. The only draw back was not having enough time to read and see everything. Many times when we go to a museum we dont read or see every little thing. But here I would absoutley have loved to taken the time.
Its one of the best small-museums Ive ever been to. The whole experience we had was significantly worthier than the the small fee they charged us - just $5 per person. Strongly recommend having their in-house, free tour-guide. I cant clearly recall her name (sorry) but she was very passionate about and explained the rich history and traditions of Ukraine which is generally not known to many of us - at least among the people that I know of. I know that Id visit there again. Im sure most of us know that Stalins years were brutal for eastern Europe, but wed understand its true depth when we learn about what Ukrainians had to live through. The whole museum is a whole package of colorful Easter eggs, traditional embroidery, architecture, history through the eras of swords and guns, modern artworks, and achievements of Ukraine and Ukrainians in the US.
Was very delighted to have spent an hour and a half in this small museum. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, which turned our whole experience into visiting a friends home in Ukraine. Meanwhile the museum had a pysanky(Easter egg) decorating workshop that uses beeswax and natural dyes throughout the extended delicate procedures. If you are curious of Ukrainian history, this is a must stop in Chicago!
One of Chicagos many museums worth the trip.
Such a great museum for those with Ukrainian heritage or those wanting to learn more. Appears small, but they make very good use of their space. Very unique and educational with friendly staff. Will be visiting their rotating display again. Only $5 and one of the workers is even with you the entire time to further explain and answer questions
Fantastic museum!! Really interesting exhibits and the staff was AWESOME. Halyna was a great host and walked me through all of the exhibits, giving lots of detailed information. She answered every single question I had (I had tons of questions) told me lots of stories about life in Ukraine, where I need to visit when I go there, etc. She is an expert and clearly loves her job. This place went WAY beyond my expectations and I couldnt recommend it enough
Place of Ukrainian history, culture, traditions. With rich unique collections and artifacts! Have regular interesting exhibitions!!! Worth visiting!
Excellent experience at the museum. The tour guide was great!
One incredible collection of Ukrainian culture and history. Exhibits range widely in time frame and subject matter. Several cover recent history and current events and are (surprisingly) unbiased. The staff is knowledgeable on the subject matter and always excited to discuss the finer points of the exhibits on display.
Had a good time coming back for the Pysanka workshop!
A must for anyone with at least some Ukrainian blood. May well be an interesting pastime for everyone else. Quite small, but atmospheric and feels like a family run enterprise. Definitely recommended!
The tour guide gave a fantastic history tour of Ukrainian culture a d customs. Definitely recommend taking a visit.
Very nice museum. Great collection and friendly knowledgeable staff.
Excellent presentation. Thoughtfully prepared. I really enjoyed the entire learning experience. I discovered quite a bit that piqued my interest to pursue some of the topics here.
Was very interesting museum, learned some important history
Amazing location with many great relics. I learned much while visiting.
A small museum, but definitely worth 60 to90 minutes. Have visited the Mexican, Greek, African American and now this. They all say something about immigration to the US and thdn advocacy for their ethnicty. Americans understand little about other countries and this museum relates the history, its relations with Russia and that Cossacks came from here and were tbe first democratic group before the US anf French Revolution and Have a copy of tbeir constitution to prove it.I will mske a point to visit more of the ethic Musuems. a side benifit is they are generally small so you get a passionite free guide
Loved it. The docents were a font of historical details. A must visit if you are Ukrainian.
Gives a nice history of Ukraine with displays of traditional dress and art, in addition to showing some modern Ukrainian art.
