I enjoy going to Harper Theater. Its such a convenience to go to a movie theater in my neighborhood. I enjoy the atmosphere, its cozy, the employees are pleasant. My mom and I recently watched the movie Just Mercy, ENJOYED IT! It was as if we were at home on the couch watching the movie. I felt relaxed, the other people in the theater were respectful, quiet. My mom swears by the popcorn, no other theater in Chicago has better tasting popcorn than Harper Theaters popcorn. I wish Harper Theater MUCH Success and that it stay open for many many years to come. Mom and I had a very enjoyable movie experience.
Very good place locally in Hyde Park to catch a movie or an event. It is located in the middle of Harper and is around a ton of restaurants within walking distance which makes a dinner and movie night perfect. Parking is super limited, so get there early enough to find a parking space on the street to pay at the meter (a max of 3 hours), take public transportation, or do a ride sharing service.
Small and quaint is this theater. Kid enjoy it because not many patrons... weve never been when crowded. I (Mom) enjoy it because kids can choose where to sit and arent rushed to choose snacks to purchase at concession stand.
Great small theater that you can go to without spending an arm and a leg. The tickets are $7/person and you can get a popcorn for 6-7 bucks. Intimate setting and nice quality movies with good staff.
This is a small local theater that screens major films. It doesnt have the panache of the larger theaters, but it is a small local theater that allows people to see movies and there are good student, senior, matinee as well as military and police price options. It is worth visiting especially in Hyde Park since it is a trek to get to other theaters that are larger
Love this place and the staff are amazing...
One of my favorite spots to watch movies any day of the week. Reminds me of growing up and going to the show with my family. I always have good interactions with the folks that work here as well.
This theater has been a part of Hyde Park for over 100 years. Renovated and reopened around 2011, its now a wonderful local establishment with 4 screens, a full bar, and extremely affordable tickets. I love the seats (arm rests go up for cuddling with kids or other loved ones) and theyre very comfortable. Popcorn is great, and I love having a beer while watching a movie!
Staff are very nice and the snacks are delicious. I like how they make different drinks or mini snacks to match the theme of the movies that are out. I recently went here and got a Queen and Slim alcohol beverage and it was delicious. Then on another day I took my 3 year old to see Frozen 2 and she got a mini snack that came with popcorn, 2 frozen themed toys, candy, and a drink! Its a cozy theater in Hyde park and me and all my friends prefer it over other theaters.
I love the smaller theaters. If I can not get to the theaters with seats that recline for my back, this theater is my second best choice because of the seats. The added bonus is the theater is located in Hyde Park and that is also a plus.
The location is convenient. I dont like the fact that is usually one person at the door giving out tickets Im a really busy day.. The food prices are crazy. The best thing I like about the place is... Its a few blocks away from my home and they serve liquor :-)
This is a convenient theater if you work/go to school or otherwise live in or around the Hyde Park community. It can also be a hit or miss when it comes to the actual quality of the movie theater itself. Its not bad, but sometimes youll have a showing where the backlight of the screen is dim to the point that you can hardly see the picture. Other times youll have a bunch of people who cant seem to shut the heck up when the movie is playing, but theres only so much you can do about them.If you want to try this theater out, youre better off in a daytime showing like around noon or something if you can spare it. That or gamble your luck for a later show in the evening (where youll also get free but unnecessary commentary!)
Its a good movie theatre dont get me wrong but the drink prices are too high. The prices are higher than your regular drink prices at the movies. I tried to get a small coke and the dude at the cashier says $4.16 and I was confusedBRING YOUR OWN DRINK/WATER
It is clean people very clean and they talk nice I would not mind going back love that place
I love Harper theater, I only wish they opened earlier on weekdays, alot of seniors and others want to see early movies on weekdays. And I love the popcorn and they have great deals.
Good place, cheaper than other theatres, they serve alcohol and standard theater fare. Nice staff, clean area and decently comfortable seats. Watched 47 meters down 2, had a good time
This is a movie theater that brings the old &the new together. It is small &parking is sometimes hard to find
Very nice place....if parking wasnt an issue Id visit the theatre again.
Went here to.see sonic theather was nice and clean .seats are comfortable
A little theater family friendly. I prefer this theater than the others big AMC...!
What a comfy movie show. Good seats. Reasonable prices.
Nice place to catch a movie, long island tea s are a hit for drinkers
Brought my ex here once it wasnt bad I liked it
AWESOME as usual!!, A wonderful neighborhood theater that I frequent. Great staff, clean, safe and in a great location with shops, restaurants and parking near by!!
Small, quaint movie theater. If you want an old fashioned movie experience, go here.
Busy busy busy! I really like the style of this movie theater, very old-fashioned with a modern twist. Small theater rooms and a small selection of movies; But, have the most affordable movie tickets! There is street parking, which can be hard to find and it is not free. There is a parking lot nearby as well, but it can be on the expensive side.
Pretty decent but what they need to STOP doing is making people pay for their movie tickets at the concession stand! I had to wait in line while people ordered their food just so I could buy a movie ticket. Yeah that should stop immediately.!
My daughter and I had food poisoning after eating hot dogs from them. I dont recommend eating anything here.
Hyde Park theater... they could do better! They finally fixed the stalls in the bathroom...nothing exciting but theater seats are comfortable! Dont ask for water because you will be charged but they have a full alcohol bar. $8 tickets... decent. Pretty clean also.
Nice clean movie theater. Seats were very nice and comfortable . Temperature was too cold but over all it was a very enjoyable movie experience.
This show is very small and cozy. It doesnt have alot of movie viewing rooms, and the ones they do have are not that big. I like this because you dont have to worry about a big crowd. I hate theres not a parking structure, and hopefully you can find parking on the streets, and not blocks away. Overall, this is a nice low key movie theater.
Lots to be desired. Great for the convenience of a neighborhood theater.
A very nice, quiet place to enjoy date night. They serve mixed drinks and the chairs are super comfy.
Really great local theatre. Their great prices are a breath of fresh air when going to the movies is getting less and less worth the money. The rooms are small so always get a good view and the people are never distracting during the movie
Just the right size for me & the matinee price was great on a lovely Sunday afternoon.
Warm atmosphere, great seats, beautiful price, clean in theater and bath area. I enjoyed my time spent there, oh ticket prices were rewarding
The Harper Theater is a great neighborhood asset but poorly run. Often the bathroom has no paper towels and the ticketing scheme changes from week to week. Please address.
Movies are $5 even, on Tuesdays. The prices for food are lower then normal. They play current movies! The theaters are small and the seats are hard but not bad for the price, definitely going back!
So, The 5 stars bcz of the small auditorium experience which you dont get now a days. It was fun
Nice hometown neighborhood feel. Staff helpful. Clean and free of rowdy teens
Nicely lighted small movie theater very clean and orderly.
Very nice movie theater in the Hyde Park community. Good prices (7 dollar matinee!), Friendly staff from the community, good seats and reasonable concession costs. I will definitely be back.
Prices are good but choices of food sucks. And theater is clean and comfortable seats
Great theatre. Full bar. Cheap tickets. Cant beat it.
Service was fine. However, watching the movie was unbearable. I had to leave in the middle of the movie because the nonstop chatter from the audience ruined the whole experience.
The theater was clean, staff was nice and the service was fast.
Great place. Each visit was peaceful. They did run out of paper towels in the ladies room. Other than that it was nice.
Local neighborhood theater Restored used to be known as the Hyde Park theater they show 1st run movies here
We used to love coming here for the good prices and nice atmosphere. They have since increased their prices on every thing, and to top it off every movie we have been to has been interrupted. There is always a group of young adults at the theater that talk through the entire movie and ruin the experience. Today was the last day that I will have spent my money at this theater to watch a movie with rude background commentary!
Havent been here since back in the 90s its still nice and cozy
Nice family oriented theater.
It has drinks and comfortable chairs a place where ppl with disability will b great the pplthere are helpful and if ppl are talking or disrupting they will check them
I used to visit this theater as a child. It was nice to take my niece. Great prices.
The theater is clean and the tickets are really affordable but they have no concept on how to control crowds. went to see ‘Us’ and missed almost the entire film because people wouldn’t stop hollering, taking photos, and being straight up obnoxious. almost had me get up and go get my money back.really won’t be spending my money here again.
Havent been to the theater since last spring. The new chairs are nice and comfortable .
Love the location although parking is sometimes hard
Nice old timey feel if youre a millennial, but like actually just kinda old
Its a very nice family neighborhood theater. Sound system in the theaters okay
Its still one of those cool places to go for some Ol nostalgia ya know lol!
Love this place. Ive been here so many time and the service is amazing . Its close to a kpop store which is better and food thank you.
Harpers Group Accommodations Awesome! Ramessut Youth Development (Teens) LOVED viewing Lion King!!
The theatre show times are confusing and make no sense. Whoevers posting the show times should be replaced.
Great time and it was very comfortable and overall a great experience
Movie was slow. Ran out of snacks. Could barely watch movie. Good movie quality.
Always had a great experience. Wonderful small business!
Good place to catch a movie.
Small, nice, clean neighborhood theater.
Its a really great theater to have in hyde park! The tickets are cheap and although it doesnt have a lot of movies showing at a time, its still really nice and cozy!
Need too up grade seating arrangement it too many ppl sitting together
Old movie theater, convenient if you live in Hyde Park but not comfortable and they dont have caramel pop-corn.
Small & quaint movie theatre
My Grandson loves this place
Went here on a random Tuesday night and had the theater to ourselves. They have great drink specials as well. Very clean and good neighborhood theater. Do not expect a variety of films to choose from at this theater.
It was a different set up than Im use to but it was pretty nice on the inside. Chill vibe. Be prepared to pay for parking
The concession options on this place are top of the line. Highly recommended
Tickets are super cheap ($9 normally, $8 with student ID), which I make use of very frequently. Harper shows all of the latest movies and is usually not too crowded either making for excellent viewing.I have not tried the refreshments at all, but I believe there is ample selection and reasonable pricing.
Nice small theaters, comfy leather seats that rock and a nice lounge area and food counter. I go at least 4-5 times a year.
Great prices. Nice clean cozy
I love Harper. Its comfortable, clean, and the screens are stellar! Prices are good. I highly recommend harper as your theater of choice for your next movie outing
The theater was clean and a great value ($7 per person). For those that desire it, you can get adult beverages. Seats were pretty comfy but did not recline.
This a small neighborhood theater, therefore the rooms and screen are small. If someone sits in front of you, you will miss part of the movie. But the popcorn is great!
Convenient theater....just dislike the late opening
Nice comfortable affordable come Tuesdays its $5 also they remodel it nice they have bar
Good movies and good service
Cute theater. Came here to see avengers. They have a little bar so you can have a cocktail. The theaters are small but cozy. The atmosphere was fine. We enjoyed ourselves.
Really Enjoyed Jumanji, Hilarious
Love my Hyde Park movie theater!!!
Simple theater. Great location in Hyde Park. Love the restaurants around it. Great in the summer
Older theater great feel horrible seats the chairs I mean weeeewww chile
Nice, Clean and can of cozy
Love this theater! Tickets and concession is not expensive like other theaters, great location in the heart of Hyde Park and its not over crowded. Highly recommended!
Fair pricing, comfortable seats. Great neighborhood with tons of delicious trendy restaurants and boutiques.
I just went to see Us this weekend and the crowd was awful. Screaming and talking throughout the whole movie. I missed a lot of dialogue because of noise. They should do better with crowd control.
If you value your rights dont go here. I went to the theater and they demanded to search my backpack. There is no notice that they need to search your backpack prior to entering the theater. In Hyde Park of all places, real hypocrites of civil rights. I visit theaters all across America and this is the only theater that Ive came across that treats patrons as criminals. Hope they close soon.
