I cant complain too much because I was at Doc Films at a free movie. The building had a very nice charm, lots of polished hardwood. A lot is stairs too. I saw a 3-hr movie and the chairs about halfway through, my tailbone hurt. The screen was large and from where I sat (very close to the door), I had an unobstructed view. While there seats were older, they still had a roomy feel to them. The bathrooms were on the lower level and were modernized with self-flushing tickets and hands-free faucets. They were nice and bright, too
I loved seeing films here!
Best place to see a good movie
See a film with these people. It was truly a pleasure.
Its a great place to watch films that you wouldnt be able to see otherwise!
They show some unique films at this University of Chicago Theater!
Great student-run movie theater on the University of Chicago campus. They have a fantastic lineup of movies for every academic term. In addition, many events are held here, including speeches and presentations from Nobel Prize Winners, Neighborhood Schools Programs, and even swing dancing!
Great place, old style theater where you can watch classic films with no popcorn and people using phones ;)
This term a friend and i picked a series and we just keep doing it. An awesome way to go to the movies. And so many choices!
Love this place! Perfect place for cinephiles
Doc Films is a great film resource on the South Side. Affiliated with University of Chicago, their programming is student-run and coincides with the academic calendar. They have movies every night during the school year and four nights a week during the summer, but be sure to check their calendar for special events. They sometimes coordinate with student groups to have special presentations and often bring movies to Chicago that don’t make it to any other theaters. A great range of popular and contemporary to classics and foreign films in a very comfortable theater. Tickets are only $5 and they offer memberships, but they don’t take credit cards, so make sure you have cash on hand.
When I was here they were showing a French feminism film. Its a comfortable theatre. Cant wait to go back.
One of the oldest and bestest.
Amazing programming and cheap cheap cheap. I love doc films. One of the best things about living in hyde park.
A diverse and well curated choice of films, open to all public. Its a real service to the community
Great selection of films on the beautiful University of Chicago campus.
Great place to catch movies if in Hyde Park. They have a great selection of films every month (usually with a theme). U of C has the longest film club in the country I think and is pretty cheap too.
This place is a scam
Sound is only okay in the theater and the screen is relatively small, but the selection is usually decent
Great atmosphere, great community, great selection, cheap
Clean, well-lit theatre
Really impressed by the diversity of films and afordable prices.
They show all kind of old movies that dont repeat in 4 year circle. Each session is only $5 and the quarter pass is around $25.
Great $6 for a film and nice theater
Student run. great movie selection
Great selection
Love the movie screenings!!
We actually left the show because the projector stopped working, but then we went downstairs and drank. Also, the tickets were cheap. Go Maroons?
Theres no better place to see a movie than DocFilms.
Great!
