Incredible selection of foreign and art-house films, maybe the best in the country.
Unique, quirky venue for films unavailable elsewhere in the area. A cultural treasure 40 years young and going strong. Highly recommended for the cinema lover.
Part of my introduction to the world of film and filmmaking in my twenties--the largest part. Nothing but fond memories. Excellent selection of things hard to find or otherwise not found at all. A gem. A landmark. An icon.
The best selection of super indie films in the city. Go there for the really obscure-and great foreign film selections. Love the French films, personally. Also super friendly staff to help you with movie rentals and have some awesome advice. Definitely worth a membership to enjoy the rentals and showings.
I like Facets, a great selection of of rare and OOP films. You can rent VHS and PAL even. I liked it enough that when I moved from Chicago I kept my membership so I can have films shipped to me downstate. Customer service leaves something to be desired, though. If I call up with questions or to check for a film I always get the feeling that the staff would rather not be dealing with me.
I grew up going to this place and it enriched my life greatly. Thank you Facets. Great movies you cant see elsewhere and an amazing collection of foreign dvds. A nice, comfortable place with a wonderful staff. A Chicago landmark!
Facets! No place like it. I have seen films there to which I could not have had access anywhere else! If you are not afraid of subtitles, have curiosity about foreign and independent films, want no elevator music leading up to the feature (much less, car commercials!), Facets is incredible! Come and see for yourself.
Great selection of movies. From silent to foreign, documentary to comedy, they have it all. Expand your cinematic horizons. Rv
This is a very low key, Indie film spot. I went to see Newlyweeds per the recommendation of a friend and enjoyed myself. The cashier is also the food vendor and reel operator; thats how small of a location it is. Though, great spot to bring a group of friends and have an intimate night at the show.
Its a cinemathèque. Such a sublime concept. I live in a city of 200,000 people and yet we have no commercial movie theater, much less an arthouse. I subscribe to Facets DVD service as much to underwrite Milos Stehliks vision as to enjoy great movies. Its like having access to a friends brilliant film collection. Not every city is fortunate enough to have a cinemathèque.
Facets is my favorite arts organization in Chicago. Use this valuable resource to enrich your life
Went here with my sons field trip and was blown away. Very engaging to the kids with relevant, age-appropriate questions asked. The kids were super-enthusiastic and the set of short films we watched were great. Thansk.

More relaxed
They have things here that you literally cannot find on the internet.

I agree with these other reviews of this place.
