Terrific little jazz club at Ogden slip. You can sit at the bar and not pay the cover charge or sit close to the band and really enjoy the intimate atmosphere. Its an educated crowd that knows their music and the artists are world class. Highly recommended experience for Chicagoans especially who might not have been down to this little gem of a club.

Excellent, intimate space to experience some great live jazz. My date and I had tickets for the 7:30 show (Rajiv Halim trio.. fantastic), got there about 10 min before showtime and sat right up in front of the stage. Cant comment on the cocktails as I just had a glass of rye whiskey.. but the service was perfect, friendly and attentive but unobtrusive. The acoustics are really accommodating in that space, so the sound is really very good. If you enjoy getting up close and personal with incredibly talented musicians, this place is for you.

For the past 4 years in December we have been coming to Chicago. On Friday night we attend the Winters Jazz club with general admission tickets. Let me say this first. The musicians have never disappointed us. They have been excellent. And I believe that Friday’s band was the best we have seen. My problem is with Winters management. We arrived at 7:10 for a 7:40 show. They informed us as they usually do about where GA seating is. They said that they have a full house and informed us about not saving chairs. Two tables right of stage against the back wall had people that had saved chairs. We didn’t say anything because we assumed people would actually be sitting in these chairs. Both tables used the chairs from high top tables for their coats and purses. I sure hope that they paid for those chairs because we to stay together moved table where they took chairs and had a pole blocking our view. If that happens Winters management should not allow people to save tables for their belongings. Checking coats is available. I won’t stop going because we could hear the music even though we couldn’t see all of the musicians. This will not stop me from attending next year. We will just get there earlier.

The music was great but the cover was a little high, since they got us for $20 per person...per set. Then theres the drink prices... we both ordered a couple kettle ones @$10 menu price. I understand the $3 up-charge per, for her grapefruit added, but to charge $3 for flat water seems like highway robbery!... $57 for 4 drinks.

The venue is actually really well laid out, comfortable, with great drinks. Get your tickets on Goldstar and youll save 50% over cover at the green mill and get a better view as well. Also, the owner clearly makes an effort to attract great talent. Add to that that its on the river front at Ogdens slip and you cant beat this place!

Overall: Great music paired with great drinks! The good: Great music, with what seems like a pretty diverse calendar of artists (from trios, to soloists, and all sorts of genres). The atmosphere is appropriately intimate and the drinks are strong and tasty. The waitress was friendly and came back at optimal moments. The not-so-good: After the show ended the entire place promptly and effectively closed up, which is a bit odd. We wanted to stay for a night cap but instead the bar staff started flipping chairs and everyone poured out of the place. The seats that we were in were also pretty uncomfortable, as we had to sit on the equivalent of an unpadded booth for over an hour.Atmosphere: 8/10Service: 8/10Drinks: 8/10

Great show, but we were disappointed it only lasted an hour. We made the mistake of choosing seating on the left side as the singers back was turned to us. I ordered an old fashioned and basically got a cup of watered down ice. Any good bartender would never serve that. My fiance ordered a martini that tasted mostly like sour mix. They definitely give you the bare minimum while charging $13+ for drinks. I was going to brush it off, but when my Fiance ordered her second drink, it never came. I did not tip or complain in person because the show was over, and we were ready to leave after that. I complained to them on square about it and this was the owners unprofessional response:Hello Ryan,Im sorry you were disappointed but we pride ourselves on pouring proper drinks with the proper amount of alcohol. Our bar staff measures the alcohol in every cocktail and follows a recipe. Allow me to say that its in poor taste to stiff your Server with no tip as shes not the one who poured your drink. The next time youre dissatisfied at a place of hospitality I would encourage you, out of basic fairness, to address any issues with management while youre present so theres an opportunity for something to satisfy you. Leaving no tip and complaining afterwards is especially classless when you enjoyed tickets which were 60% OFF.Very sincerely, Scott - ownerSorry, but you shouldnt speak to people in this way and expect to be in the hospitality industry as you put it.. Calling me classless is over the line. Good luck serving overpriced watered down drinks and responding this way to paying customers.

Went there on a Friday night, the music was very nice but the service was poor and very slow. Ordered two Woodford Preserves on the rocks listed on the menu at $14 each. When we got the bill each drink was $19. We politely asked the manager why it was higher than on the menu and he explained that they gave us a 2 oz. pour instead of 1.5 oz. Beside the fact that it did not look like it, we didnt ask for it and they should not have assumed we wanted it. We dont mind spending the extra money but we we want to pay the price that is advertised.

There is great and also not-so-great RE Winters Jazz Club. Briefly, the not-so-great: They have ZERO food. One would think they could have something simple such as a cheese plate or even some bar nuts available for purchase. Even the smallest clubs everywhere have a few simple options like this. Dozens of people Ive talked to have the same complaint about Winters. The other not-so-great is the room needs a few touches by a keen designer to boost the feng shui. It is abysmally dark and almost foreboding. Yes, its a cavernous room with concrete and pillars. Thats all cool, but there are ways to give it vibe of warmth which would not only help the visceral experience but help keep customers returning. Basically, the feel is not quite right. The owners will probably disregard this comment, but they should heartily consider it, as my opinion is fairly universal among the crowds Ive talked with. As for the great: The lineup of artists is almost always outstanding, the sound in most seating places is excellent, and the fact that the owners are obviously deeply dedicated to keeping this art form alive gets a big kudo from me. It is not easy to keep a rarefied type of music club alive. It takes love and work, so I am thankful for this venue. I hope my comments can add to their quest for success.

This is a great little club. The fears of obstructed views from concrete columns is over blown. Although a few seats are technically behind 2 structural support columns, they didnt totally interfere. A small bit of the stage from a few tables is blocked, but they can still see the stage and the performers. So dont let this stop you. We bought tickets ahead of time, but I dont think that was totally required, the house still had several open tables when the set began. We arrived an hour early to be sure to get good seats, but that was a bit early. Probably 45-30 minutes will be enough. That said, the site says all general admission seats, but when we arrived all of the center seats were reserved. Even though we arrived an hour early, we could not choose any of them. The seats are also a bit uncomfortable for more than about an hours use. The drinks are strong and reasonably priced. Although strong, very tasty. We had tickets to the 9:30 set (which cost the same as the 6:30 set) and the show was slated to run until 11pm. When we arrived at 8:30, the 6:30 set was still going. It wrapped around 8:45. Disappointingly, our set wrapped at about 10:40. We saw the Kimberly Gordon Trio. They are absolutely amazing. Search them out wherever they are performing! But, there was one disappointment... The trio, as great as they were, were missing their drummer that evening.

First off Id like to state the music and atmosphere/ambiance is fantastic for such a venue. The bartending staff by far, is the worst, most disrespectful Ive ever seen, anywhere, ever. We waited in the lounge for approximately 45 mins (as the earlier show ran long...no big deal), however, waited at the bar 3 times after waited to be approached as the surrounding tables were. Tried getting the attention of the bartenders (2 of them) and they wouldnt even look over. Let me state, the bar seats maybe 10-12 with 4 little 2 person side tables. The one bartender even so far as walked up to me, grabbed a drink in front of me and drank it then promptly walked away.Disrespectful, tasteless, classless staff that should be serving fries, not drinks at such a nice establishment. I didnt dare speak to the host as my luck, Id be served spot-on wine for the rest of the show once I finally got served.I paid $70 for vip tix and got a great show, just horrendous service. Ill assume theyre someones family members and its pity employment.Overall, great show, great venue, worst service prior to being seated. Id definitely recommend if they had better service. I guess they dont like making more money from patrons for drinks. If you dont drink, youll enjoy yourself, just stay away from the bar. Such a shame.

I went here on a Saturday night and we bought our tickets before we left the house. I didnt know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. I love jazz and this was by far one of the best jazz spots I have been to to listen to live jazz on Jazz Fest weekend. There is a one drink minimum. Their cocktails were delicious and before we knew it, we were at 2 drinks each. Its a calm and dim setting and the stage is small and the show feels so intimate. Perfect place to take a date if you guys love jazz. There is no food here but luckily there are a few good spots to much on downtown. Who needs food and snacks when you have great drinks and an amazing live jazz band. Everyone seemed a bit over dressed and I came hella casual. We were the only punk looking people there. But it was a very open and welcoming environment. I will most definitely be back.

A jazz club is an intimate experience. You get to see the dynamic of the ensemble working together, how the improvisation of one member inspires the next member to take the music a step further, the joy they have in the music, the interaction of the players with the audience and sometimes with yourself. It can be an exhilarating experience. The experience fills your senses; you hear it, feel it and see it.I did not get that experience at Winters. 3/4 of my viewing experience included a pole. Views should never be obstructed in such an intimate setting. How disappointing. The owner said the pole was needed for the structural integrity of the building. Of course it was. Perhaps the venue is not appropriate for the structural integrity of a jazz club.
