Spent a few nights at Camp Wilderness. The over all experience was good. There were some issues with Cabins. Several or the electrical outlets did not work. There were quite a few times the breakers tripped and I ended up going outside to reset them. BUT AGAIN overall accommodations were good
Nice grounds and plenty of amenities. They have a tram that takes campers into the Carowinds Theme parks, a well stocked trading post in case you forgot anything, and friendly and helpful staff. We rented a cabin. It was clean, comfortable, and spacious. It has cable and wifi, and a kitchenette complete with cookware and silverware. We will definitely be staying here again.
Came in just after close, but the guy still came running out to greet us and give us the paperwork. The park had lots of shade trees, none of which hit us. When reserving we had asked for a site away from others if we could. They came through on this point, we were on the end of a row and there were only 2 other campers in the entire area. Both of them were well away from us. They clear put us in a site that hadnt been used in quite a while. The site was level enough that we didnt need to make any adjustments. Wifi password was available and fabulous!! Over all a great stay for an over night. Definitely considering coming back when the park is open to stay here for a few days.
Spacious, clean sites. Very well maintained campground. Friendly, helpful staff. Good location. We camped here over Labor Day weekend, 2020. Campground was not busy because Carowinds Amusement Park was closed due to COVID. Definitely recommend.
We are one of half a dozen people here. Obviously, theres not much of a demand with Carowinds closed for covid. Its a really nice spot though. We will definitely try to stay here in the future when the park is open. its easy to walk right into Carowinds from here. Unlike other campgrounds weve been visiting, this ones mostly asphalt with a few spots of grass. Thats not necessarily a bad thing, given the context. Weve already found the ranger to be very helpful.
Great place! Nice bath house! No problems, would stay again!
Friendly and accommodating people. Nice big spots. Quiet.
The staff is great and the camp is well maintained. We really liked our stay there.
Great place to bring RV. Nice and clean. Very friendly staff
Love this park. Stay Everytime was come to the area for work.
We arrived here last night. We got in late. This morning it is very nice. The staff is wonderful. This picture is of the office. Would love to stay here and go to the park some time.
The staff members there were so friendly! They were very welcoming and the shuttle service to the park was great. No wait time during the week and we recommend visiting the park in the morning when it first opens. Cabins were great, could be a little cleaner and it would be nice if there was a bigger tv/ or television in the bedroom but overall a good experience.
We stayed here one night on our way to Florida. We were very impressed. The sites have level, paved driveways, the internet is great, the staff friendly, and the campground is attractive and well maintained. There are planes coming in for a landing over the campground, but this did not bother us. We will definitely stay here again!
Awesome camping park! Extremely nice bathing facilities! Clean, level and overall very nice! Not the most secure. Anyone could walk straight in from the streets due to no fencing or gates.
Theres so much to do for the entire family. Close to food, gas, and most importantly staff is very very friendly, and approachable. The up keep of the camp grounds is very neat and the bathrooms are always clean.
Very nice park. We stayed during the off season & enjoyed the outdoorsy feel. Great staff!
Nice clean quiet campsite.
The only way to do Carowinds!!!! Friendliest staff ever! Nice paved park with big pool and volleyball court. Love it! Thankful for the shuttle back and forth to Carowinds!
Nice place to stay and so close to the park. Friendly people who work there. Shuttle driver was nice too.
Clean, spacious and super nice people.
Stayed in the cabins.Very nice and peaceful
My family for a number of years have camped at this site in a tent. We were advised this year there is no longer tent camping allowed. This is such a shame. We do not own an RV and do not want to stay in the cabins. My children love the tent camping experience. I think this should be revisited, tent camping creates so many good childhood memories is this not a part of the Carowinds package.
This is our 3rd trip here. Cozy, friendly staff, d ed cent sized camp sites. Even in the flight path of the airport it is relatively quite.
Customer Service at Trading Post is excellent and very helpful. Found sizes of T-shirts we wanted just by asking for help. Cabins are well maintained and stocked with all amenities, etc. in good working order. Everything you need for an enjoyable stay is provided and reasonably priced. Shuttle service to Carowinds is dependable and pleasant. These cabins are a hidden treasure which most Carowinds amusement park patrons arent even aware of. Looking forward to staying here again.
My family and I stayed here when we brought our daughters on a Spring break trip and loved it! The entire staff is very friendly and helpful. The cabin we stayed in was awesome! There was a shuttle bus that drove you to and from the park and to this very day we even talk about how much we enjoyed this trip. Actually, we will be returning to Carowinds for another trip and would definitely stay here once more. The staff for the shuttle was Amazing and amusing. I absolutely recommend it.
Friendly staff, clean restrooms and showers. Good level sites. My favorite place to stay when in the area.
Needs more bathrooms. But the four that they had was clean. Lots of shade trees. Love the shuttle to and from the park. Nice to stay while visiting Carowinds. Especially for the older family members who dont want to stay in the park all day.
Spacious campsite, clean bath houses, and friendly staff! This is our second time to stay here. We did not go to Carowinds, but enjoyed a local Mercy Me concert and a local crabfest!
Stay here once a year and have always had a good experience. Staff is friendly and helpful.Sites and roads are a bit tight. This campground has been here for a while. We were at Carowinds and a storm came up. The Staff at the campground was ready for action. They brought two buses to pick as many campers up as possible. Great job
Spacious sites. Grounds were clean and neat. Staff was friendly and helpful. Deducted one star because there was not a playground for the kids and the campground store did not have a vast selection of products and zero ice cream in the freezers. Overall, we will go back.
Good campground and shuttle service to the park. Helpful staff. Some campsites can be tight to back in.
Best proximity to Carowinds. Full hookups for campers and RVs. Staff is very friendly. Plenty of shopping and dining facilities nearby.
This place is so nice and relaxing. Carowinds was great they shuttle you there. Plus swimming in the front. So much fun.
Great campground with full utilities and plenty of space to set up. They even give you a free ride to Carowinds on the bus. Absolutely worth the cost of camping here!
Fun for all. Shuttles available to Carowinds theme park and water park. Great club house and immaculate bathhouse. Nice restaurants near by and plenty of gas stations.
Very clean. Very nice staff. We will come back.
Great place to kick back to nature for a day or a while. Staff Members are Caring and Sweet. Close to the park.. with Shuttle service. Only place in Charlotte area I recommend to my other Camping Friends. Thank you Carowinds for such a nice Relaxing get away from the daily rate race.
Shaded and near Charlotte and Carowinds. Only fault some sites require leveling tricks. If you are a RV newbie let them no and they will try to help with site selection.
Our stay was nice. Excellent price, especially, with park tickets.
We have stayed a few times and this place is amazing, free and frequent shuttle to park, pool, full hookups. Everyone is always nice and friendly. The price is a little high but its a theme park campground so its too be expected. Camper spots are large. Easy to get into.Highly recommend
My wife and I enjoyed our stay there. Will tell others about the place. It, in a good location with plenty of places to go. Couldnt have choose a better place to come. Thanks Again
Its the first week of August and at 6:24 p.m. (as it is currently) it is 94° and sunny, yet the pool is closed. It closed at 6 p.m., with at least 20 people swimming. Its not the staffs fault, but give me a break! We will not be back, after years of camping here. The park was a disappointment and for what you pay to camp here, there is absolutely no reason why you cant keep the pool open until at least 8 p.m.
Much nicer sites than other nearby campgrounds. We were there in the off season so there wasnt a lot of activity. Easy to get to everywhere in the area from here.
Super cute location, cabins were way bigger and way nicer than I had imagined. Fully equipped with everything you would need. The staff was outstanding as well. Everyone from the front desk to the tram drivers made us feel welcomed and at home. It’s quick and easy to get to the park and we had a blast staying here. We will absolutely be back later this summer.
Very nice park, for being so close to a major city. A few things are looking a little run down, like the shuffleboard court and the gazebo, but o was here in the off season. Quiet, except for the rollercoaster safety warnings every couple of minutes.
Significantly more expensive for camp site as compared to most other RV parks in NC/SC. But they do have clean, well maintained facilities along with a pool and access to a shuttle service to the park. Mid to late August and weekdays are going to provide the least crowded time in the campground and definitely at the water park/coaster park (zero wait all day when here). Will do again!Pulled 30 ft travel trailer. Pull thru slots (as are most others) are paved but short, so tight when wanting to have space to pull your vehicle alongside your unit. Easy in. Easy out. Easy back up slots too.
We loved the cabins and whole park and highly suggest operating the cabins in accordance with modern hotel safety standards. For instance, whoever consulted on the cabins has no experience in the industry and dangerously offers no slide lock on the inside of the door. I would recommend, as a lodging expert and owner, myself, to hire a thorough operational review expert in lodging and campgrounds to correct a number of items. We loved our stay but did feel unsafe in our cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed the kind staff and huge lodge and we patronized the gift section. We had a terrific time in the park and loved Camp Snoopy and the shows!
We went right before pools opened but it was still full. But quiet. Fellow campers were nice. And the shuttle driver really friendly offered to wait for me while I ran back to camper for something I forgot. Will definitely stay again if in the area whether to go to Carowinds or not.
This is by far the best resort for Carowinds because it completely isolates you from people that are next door, it also has very comfy beds, a full kitchen, and to top it off a swing right outside on your porch.
Took my sister here for a girls weekend for her 16th birthday. We had a nice cabin with two bunk beds, a queen bed, and a futon. It fit the 5 of us nicely with an extra bed and no one doubled up. The shuttle to the park was convenient. We even enjoyed a little wildlife as a raccoon was getting into the neighbors trash. I would give 5 stars, but reservations and pricing was a little bit of a hassle last year.
Quiet, scenic, sheltered, restful, and a raging amusement park right next door!
Restrooms are clean. Sites leave much to be desired. They are not kept clean between visits.
Great little campgroundPlan to stay in the near future
We stayed here because it was centrally located for us to visit 3 NC State parks. The Staff was very friendly and helpful. My site was a little difficult with a light pole on the corner. There was no way I could go out the way they wanted. I do have a long rig (53 connected) and used all of the paved surface just for wheels.
Loved it! Staff was great! Trash pick up on site is very convenient.
Awesome place best value park period 49.00$ for passes that include water park and carowinds the same day. Absolute steal being that it is not crowded and lines are not horrible like other sister company parks.... but with that said Im a roller coaster enthusiast Ive riden 6 of top 10 tallest and fastest rollercoaster in the usa. Looking to do them all. Other then cedar point not really another park that can compare. Maybe 6 flags New Jersey. But 5 star would recommended to anyone. Great place.
Love it! Long day at carowinds then get in the pool
Nice campground. Well maintained, restrooms and showers were spotless. The laundry room was very clean too.
This is our favorite, close to home campground! Great little camp store, clean bathrooms, and plenty to explore!
Camping at Camp Wilderness has been a great experience for our family. We have a pull-through spot, which makes access very easy. The facilities are super clean and nice! It is very pet friendly and we have enjoyed the closeness to lots of great things.
We had a great time! Bath house was clean. The man at check-in was nice. He also drove our shuttle from the park.
Our first campground with an RV, and it was great! Many pull through sites, common sense hookup locations, perfect amount of sun and shade and its paved! Only thing I would like is an easy walk into the Carolina Harbor Waterpark which is literally right there, however they do run a frequent shuttle that we did not use because we have season passes and free parking so we opted to drive the mile or two instead.
Nice and lots of shadeHad a lot rain which kinda mudded up the campsite could use some additional ditches andd lots of noise from the airport and Carowinds which was expected
Ok, lets get this straight the staff gets 4 stars. However for as much as we paid for three nights in cabin #14, the beds were horrible you might as well be sleeping on the floor. The word Resort is very loosely used for this place. No different than a KOA. The kitchen was missing pots and pans and utensils to cook with. Which the staff tried to help with this issue, hence the 4 stars for them. And the black ants in the kitchen were horrible. (Staff gave us ant spray) Yes, having the tram pick you up and drop you off was convenient, but we will never ever stay here again. It will be a hotel next time, when we use our season passes next.
We love staying here. It is so convenient when going to Carowinds.
If you camp & want to visit Carowinds Park, this is the campground to park your RV. They have a shuttle to & from the park. Park is nice & the lots are good size to fit any size camper or motorhome. Been there ourselves 3 times.
Very friendly people and level, paved campsites. The pavement is quite narrow and due to a lot of rain, the area around the paving is very muddy. There are nice trees, but almost no grass. This would be a nice place to stay when it is drier and you cant beat the closeness of Carowinds if that is what you are looking for. Airplane noise from the airport was almost unnoticeable.
CarowindsFirst and foremost: When you are going to a campground you have never been to, and pulling a 40 foot camper, having poor signage is troubling. Oh there are signs indicating “Camp Wilderness Resort”. Not “Campground” but “Resort”. One set of signs take you around the north side of Carowinds along a narrow service road. Along that route you can easily miss the “Resort” sign. Coming off I-77 go passed the main Carowinds entrance and go straight to the next STOPLIGHT. Then turn RIGHT. Travel a short distance and turn left just BEFORE the “Resort” sign. Careful on parking with a big rig. The check in parking spaces don’t face the majority of the camp sites. Just depends which site you are going to. Also a number of vehicles like parking near and in the check in RV parking area. Makes it fun trying to get turned around.DO NOT CALL for directions. A lady answered when I called. It appeared she had never driven to the “Resort” either. Why they let her answer the phone!?!Next the cost. It is high.Once to your site you will find mostly dirt. Sand and dirt. The sounds from the park can be easily heard until late and the plane traffic from the nearby Charlotte Airport is VERY loud. The pool closes at 6pm. No idea why.Shade is OK. So is the power and water pressure. There are nicer places, much cheaper and quieter.
The cabins are really nice! It slept the 7 of us nicely and was good for hanging out after a long day at the park. A couple things: first, the cabin was slightly dusty. There was quite a bit of dirt in the corners, but the linens and stuff were clean. Second, theres only one shower, not a bath tub. Keep that in mind if you have a lot of people. Other than that, we had a really great time!
We stayed in a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom (2 full, 1 half)for one night to visit Carowinds. Rooms were clean, and cabin was COLD when we showed up (its July, thats a huge plus). Living/dining area was gorgeous with large flat screen. Walls and flooring were made to give the atmosphere of an actual log cabin, but couch was gorgeous brown leather, with an attractive dining and side table as well. 4 sets of bunk beds for the kids was a big hit. I regret not being able to stay more than one night.
Nice camp ground. Sites are not that spacious but ok. Shuttle to park is great. A bit pricy on holiday weekend Would come back.
Great campsite, full hook up for your RV. Nice having a tram that will take you to the amusement park. Sites are nice and reasonably priced.. Would highly recommend!
We had an awesome fun-filled day! Camp wilderness was so convenient and the staff was friendly. The cabins were very simple but had everything we needed. Well definitely be back
Its sad that I have to give what use to be such a great place to camp in Charlotte only two stars; but its needed. What use to be 57 sites out of the 199 were designed for tents/popups is now nothing more than woods. Tent camping is not permitted anywhere in the campground anymore. That to me is discrimination towards people who are accustomed to tent camping. Isnt that what camping actually is? With that said, its a fine place to camp if you have a hotel on wheels. Or you could pay $200 per night for a cabin.
Campground is convenient to major highways, the city and its reasonably priced. Sites are paved and very long but quite narrow. Not sure we would stay here again.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The campground itself was very clean including the bathhouses. They have free WiFi that covers the entire campground. Theres also a shuttle that runs every 30 minutes to the front entrance of Carowinds making it easy and convenient to go back and forth. Overall, Id highly recommend anyone looking to camp around the area to stay at Carowinds Camp Wilderness.
Cabin was comfortable and clean. The tram to Carowinds made it easy to go to and from the park and back to the campground for lunch. The front desk staff were all friendly and helpful. Highly recommend staying here.
Typical RV park. Full hook ups with 50 amps. Sites are paved and fairly level. Fires arent allowed unless theyre in a fire ring you brought. You can rent one for $15/day plus $50 deposit. Discount park admission with stay.
Always a great, clean place to camp for carowinds.the sites are paved and pretty level with pretty green grass
We have brought our Grandchildren here for six summers now. The campground is extremely nice. The facilities are always clean, the staff could not possibly be more helpful and friendly. The lodge provides a place to meet, relax, play games, and obtain supplies. A shuttle runs every half hour to the gate of Carrowinds. Special discounted tickets are available for campers. We will return again next summer.
Clean and quiet. Staff very friendly.
Its OK. Were in our 60s and, so, like peace and quiet. This aint it. Lots of fun for the younger crowd, we suppose, but loud music after 11pm and barking dogs at all hours are annoying to us. Also, the Charlotte airport has a air traffic lane overhead. The RV sites are good and flat with asphalt paved drives, and the water, electric and sewer hook ups are conveniently located. The resort map needs an update because there are more shower houses available than are shown. Also, we drove around the mulberry bush coming off the Interstate before we found Catawba Trace. (Enter the resorts address into your Google Maps or you might end up elsewhere in the Carowinds complex.) We will not make this a regular stop.
Great campground, clean. Friendly staff. Lifeguards on duty at the pool. You can borrow stuff for shuffleboard, cornhole, volleyball. Shuttle runs all the time to there park. Well be back.
Grounds clean and staff were very pleasant
Fun and cozy place for being attached to a park
One of the nicest campgrounds I have ever stayed at. It was very well kept, clean sites, friendly staff. The bus to Carowinds came every 30 minutes and the ride to the gate was only a few minutes. We will be visiting again soon.
Cute little cabins. No frills. Beds were small and had only a set of sheets and small, thin blanket for linen. Not well stocked in the kitchen. No utensils to go with the cookware. Plan on bringing what you would to camp with to stay here, which kimd of defeats the purpose of renting a $250 a night cabin but location was good. It was quiet and there is that in-the-woods camping feel which is nice given its location. Stores are pretty close by which is convenient, as well. Food delivery from a small selection of places is offered, as well. Overall it was just ok. Could have spent less and gotten more from a local hotel but it was a different experience mock-camping.
A good campground but it has nothing special. It has a pool and some arcade machines but that’s about it unless you count the view of some of the roller coasters in the park.
Great campgrounds and very friendly staff.
