Favorite! Neighborhood spot but all are welcomed. Two bars, back patio, lots of space... Sometimes dancing, sometimes karaoke, always chill... Now with all new updated stage lighting in the main room :)
I used to really like the vibe in Petras. But theres a bartender in there now, a woman with dark hair and glasses, whos just smug. My first unpleasant interaction with her was when she added a drink to my tab because she saw me with it. Id ordered a beer from the taproom in the back and paid in cash. When I asked her to correct my bill, she was just smug. Who just adds a drink to your bill because they saw you with one? A friend could have purchased it for me for all she knows. I was in Petras last night with some friends and she had the same demeanor. Petras claims to be a safe space for ALL people. If the staff dont share that belief, thats a problem. Ill definitely remember to ask for another bartender next time.
ON MY BEST OF LIST... BEST PLACES TO DANCE IN ALL OF CHARLOTTE.They have all sorts of music that will come through and you can dance the night away. Be prepared to be charged a cover charge. It is worth it though. They have a lively front room with a stage and plenty of room to dance. Then they have a back door that leads to a wonderful patio that has another bar in it. The whole place is actually very large, it doesnt look like it but it is actually huge once you get in and explore the whole place.
I come for karaoke quite often. This place is full of talent. Let me tell you I would come here before spending money on a show. These people have better voices than the original artists. Everyone is super friendly. They always have a different vibe outside, so if you are bored with the dj then just step out. They have two bars. One for beer and one for liquor. They are very LGBT friendly and just all around progressive. There is even a gallery which has local art work inside.
Visited for School of Rock Concert. Nicevsmall venue
Great time listening to people share there experiences in life! Definitely going back
If youre looking for a bar, this is a bar. The space is good but can be loud. The outside is quite nice. Liquor options are limited enough that no one asks what gin you want in your gin and tonic. The only Chardonnay on offer was undrinkable. Friendly staff and fun events.
Good atmosphere. Good bar. Menu items are diverse but expected more ethnic choices; i.e., Serbian. Just missed the mark with seasonings. Kind of almost.
Epic Musicians playing live in a small yet cozy venue. 2 bars and a great backyard patio. Best health rating Ive seen in all of Charlotte (99@Aug19)
Fun venue with an approachable feel. Great programming for events almost every night. Theres a grand piano included in a decent backline and Ive had great experiences working with the sound guys.
Most favorite little venue ever. Eclectic events and shoes. Piano karaoke, Foreplay Goes South, Bugalu and Lost Cargo just to name a few of the wonderful times to be had. Check it out!
Amazing atmosphere and decor. Always a great spot to catch cool events
Parking is very limited and you MUST park correctly facing the street or risk being ticketed! Parking Violations are heavily enforced in this business district!Hazy Sundays are outside with a DJ playing alot of Hip Hop songs until 8 pm where there is a live Jazz band with a cover charge of $7.Went over to eat at Cilantros Restaurant until 8 pm. Good food!
My favorite place in Charlotte to see live music!! They also have wonderful events - craft nights, Latin vinyl dance nights, Mirror Moves Underground 80s dance party, art exhibits, etc. The acoustics are great, the setting is intimate, cozy and warm. Great patio for lovely evenings! The staff are fantastic! Best place in town. Good vibes, great people, excellent music!
Mirror moves eighties nite is always good.
Unique and fun place. Great music
I was on a date with my wife and we walked in having never been here before. The lighting was dim and they charged us for a cover as well as a club membership fee. I paid it anyways because I was in a date. We went in and paid for average priced drinks. A band was setting up to play. The music was such a combination of sounds that it was really indescribable. My wife and I loved it. At one point she leaned over to me and said, this band is so cool that no one has their phones out.. She was right. There was no one on social media or videoing the performance. Everyone in this place was living in the moment.
Take a second to think about the kinds of songs or your favorite artist you want to sing before going to this karaoke bar. My brother and I had an incident tonight which was understandable but handled unprofessionally and was borderline discrimination. If an establishment does not want to support R-Kelly as an artist, that’s 100% understandable. Also, when the DJ mentioned that a song by Chris Brown or Elvis could not be sang either because of their public images, I understood. But here’s the problem, if you judge every artist by their character, some hip-hop or R&B artist song will never be sang in this bar. This may mean the same for Michael Jackson although Tupac songs are allowed according to our friend that invited us. That part still doesn’t make sense to me.The Dj explained that certain songs cause people to leave. But it’s a karaoke bar!!!! People come there to sing songs they enjoy. If you start to restrict the songs, a culture of artist are segregated and the bar will attract only the same kinds of people. My suggestion: the list of songs to choose from is done via KaraFun. As a user of this app/site, you either fight to remove inappropriate songs that way the option isn’t available or you create your own karaoke list as an establishment with songs that are deemed appropriate.
Fantastic atmosphere and super friendly staff!
Poetry night was cool. Enjoyed myself. The cashier at door cant count but the bartender can make a GOOD DRINK
Different vibe but cool people. Interesting place.
I love Petras. The staff is attentive and welcoming and the music is always varied and top notch. There are 4 zones within the club with distinctly different vibes.
Best lil gay Bar this side of (charlotte) Kansas when, Dorthy met her match with the yellow brick road leading away from the bar to a luxurious, open back room with low light for more private conversations. The decor was to die for. Except for me I couldnt stay away from bar where the drinks were flowing and the vocalist on karaoke was Flawless. Dress casual and be who you are because everyone is accepted here. I loved it. It was on a Wed. night./birthday party.
Always have a cool vibe @ this spot shout out to Jus & A.King
Went their for Pixels and Potions and everyone was nice. Unfortunately the bathrooms are really small and old. Was served beer in can that was partially frozen. Other than that not a bad place.
Great piano guy and singers.
Im new in town and have many places to explore. Petras is a great establishment and Mirror Moves is already one of my favorite events. The staff is friendly, service is wonderful, and the crowd is great! If you are new in town, and are used to a more urban vibe, this place is a must!
Love coming here on Wednesday’s and Friday’s. Very fun spot
Great staff, awesome atmosphere!
Bartenders are awesome here! Crowd and venue are amazing! Well worth visiting! And if you want to get a drink, try the Pu**y Galore!
Petras is a wonderful bar with a lot to offer. Youll probably spot the PRIDE flags hanging in the windows. This is a place for ANYONE to have fun. Open-minded people only! There is game night, trivia, drag, karaoke, live music, and fun DJs. There is even an art gallery and tap room. Petras is truly a jewel in the Crown City.
Right size for good quality live music and room to dance if desired. Good bar service and selections.
You need to become a member which includes scanning the front and the back of your drivers license to get in.I dont want to give out that much info just to drink a beer. Did not go in
Went here for Karaoke and loved it. Welcoming yet casual-everyone is a regular-vibe. Bring your phone, grab a Petra special cocktail and choose from any song on Kavana app. High recommend!
This place is the PITS!!! You pay for tickets to get in, and they make you pay more money at the door for some type of membership. They scan your drivers license for God knows what, and how they keep your information should not even be allowed. The guy at the door was totally RUDE. The was dirty, and smelly, could not even try to enjoy the show if I wanted because the experience was SOOOOO BAD! If I could score this place a negative, I would. Dont waste your time!
One of the top music scenes in CLT!
A little bit on the alternative side, however if you love 80s music and stiff drinks this is the place to be on a Saturday night. People are always so friendly and if you like to talk theres always people to talk to. Great atmosphere
Fun... casual...eclectic ...diverse. all are welcome!
Awesome burlesque show. Decent daily drink specials. Solid atmosphere. Porch area is pretty excellent, even more so when its cooler out.
Music was very litt. You need to try it
Third Saturday of the month yall. Enough said!
I love Petras and am thankful they allowed me present my one woman show at their venue.
Great music, very laid back and diversified
We have enjoyed ourselves each time. Great karaoke on Wednesday nights!
My favorite place in plaza! Cozy, great service, love all the little trivia events and music events they have! Great spot!
Petras helped me come out of my shell as a young queer musician. I will always be grateful to the staff and the owners. Great events and drink specials.
Petras Bar is a friendly unassuming place where everyone is welcome. They host a variety of performers. You Just have to check their event calendar on their web site. I was there for a LGBT event hosted by Transcend. Singing dancing comedy and a drag show. Great night.
Nice little bar
Great bar!!! Offers many different nights and events. Something for everyone. My favorite night is Mirror Moves- Underground 80s Dance Party. Definitely check this place out!
A relaxed atmosphere, good drinks and good spoken word.
It doesnt really pick up on a Saturday night until late in the night like 11pm. However, the music was lovely... Something called Afrohouse this night and it was a good music. Cover fee is $10 and not enough seating is the only reason i give it 3 stars.
Awesome space with multiple bars that are moderately priced. 80s night is a lot of fun here and the crowd here pretty low key.
The DJ delivers soulful beats
Love it here, good bartenders drink was nice, two areas of two different types of music outdoor area had a ball!
Very nice place. Me and a few girlfriends went last weekend . it was a nice atmosphere. The live band & singer(Kyle Jason) were awesome. You can go on a date here or hang out with friends. Every 1st and 3rd Friday is a live band session . Great jewel to find in the heart of the plaza. You also can reserve a table.
Very laid back, no drama, good vibes, mixed crowd. I love it!
Owners and staff are talented artists and fabulous hosts! Thank you for all your hard work on New Years Eve!
1st Saturdays of the month at Petras are awesome! Dope vibes & great music!
Next months Monday night Karaoke moves to Tuesday night.
Great spot for live music in a vibrant and fun section of the city.
Fun place. ..loved Anya Nerves!!!
Always a good time!
*** DISCLAIMER *** My rating has a contingency. I attended two events based upon the artist performing. DJ Justice is The Truth. He has instincts that KEEP the party live and hype. Musicheads of ALL ages move to his mixes and relive moments from the soundtrack of their lives. Petras staff was polite and helpful.
Lots of fun! Prepare to sweat
Nice local bar.
Nice place. Went there for a dance party. Spacious venue, well stocked bar, and clean bathrooms. Everything a girl could ask for to help facilitate a good time.
Saturdays deliver an eclectic scene. So whether you want to people watch or dance, its a good spot.
My favorite locally owned bar in Charlotte. Never the same place twice. Great great great tap room. Charlottes best kept secret
Love the in intimacy of the venue for great dj parties.
I laughed until my sides were hurting. This was my 1st time here....Foreplay Goes South!
Great Afrobeats Night every 4th Saturday of the month! You need to check out .
Good music!
Bartender was extremely rude. Kicked my friend out because she ordered a beer and then walked away to dance without getting it. When I walked up to the bar to ask what happened he took my beer and said I had to leave. When I told him to give the beer back or give me the money I paid for it, he immediately called 911. Never got a reason for why we were all asked to leave. I had a group of about 10 people who were the only customers in there and they were all kicked out. I didnt leave until the cops came and told me to, but still never got an explanation. None of us will ever go back. When I came back the next day to get my friends wallet that was left there when she was kicked out, the boss of the batender that night spoke to me. I found out that the bartender made up a story that he had cut us all off because we had drank too much and were all trying to fight him. Not surprising that he would do that to cover himself. Hopefully his boss did something after finding out the truth, but I highly doubt it. If youre not the typical looking crowd that goes there it seems like they dont want you there.
This is an intimate, friendly place. The ambience is warm. The two performances Ive seen here were excellent, and you can easily see from any place in the room. Every night they have something a little different.
DJ Kato and the rest of the house music DJs were awesome!
Unique venue! Amazing and fun layout! You could have at least 4 parties under one roof. Great spot to host your own get together. All they need is a Cassies Sweetz cupcake bar in there and its magic!
Amazzzzing Vibes and eccentric feel. Bring your own Vinyl, Craft beers & Ciders, & Karaoke. Even has an art gallery attached. Definitely will be back.
Loved the NRGY of this place
Variety of events throughout the week... During big events a great spot for dancing
Great asset to Charlotte. We love going there for local Cajun and Americana music.
Had a ton of fun here!
Went to Petras for potions and pixels and had a great time! The mango drink was very good, and the game selection was awesome! My boyfriend loved the birdwing ale, it was bitter and tasted like toast.
There was a fabulous Christmas Show. My friends and I had a great time. We danced and sang. And a good time was had by all
Best bar in Plaza Midwood. Awesome bartenders with a beautiful indoor and outdoor space. Perfect for a date night or hanging out with friends. Great nightly specials and something going on most nights of the week.
A great time!! Now, it gets HOT in there but I had an amazing time dancing the night away!!! The bartenders definitely know what they are doing!! Will be back.. #lovehousemusic
Love this place, has an actual piano - one of the only places in town with a real piano. They have lots of live music and fun/unique events here all the time. Great staff too!
Good drinks nice staff and good music
The decor here is awesome, every shoe Ive been to here has been fun.
Its a small location with one bathroom. They have limited parking in the area, however, I love the events that they host at the location. I also like the outdoor option where you can people watch!
Good drinks and great crowd
Quaint neighborhood bar. Went for a spelling bee game night. Lots of fun. Great drinks and nice atmosphere for all.
