Self registration for the season, but there were two rangers who came around on Friday. Water available (not as a hookup though) and electric hookups available for 20,30, and 50 amp. Outhouses and no showers, but a beautiful and updated playground. We enjoyed our stay and were extra thankful for the very low cost of camping out for the night!
Great place to hike. Some easy (moderate) trails, some semi-difficult (rugged) trails. There was a washed out bridge on Trail 5: Natures Corner. Its passable, but you gotta be ready climb. The rugged trails can get overgrown and down to a one lane foot path in the summer. Be prepared and bring plenty of water.
We had site 28- perfect. We could back out 32 ft. Camper in with ease. Only 43 sites with lots of space between.
Had a great time here. Great views with my significant other, even after all the leaves fell.
I have always liked this place. It is a great place to walk & picnic. Camping is probably nice too but I have not done that yet.
Great place for a family hike. Well marked and maintained trails! Great place!
We enjoyed our stay in the Bluebird cabin. The shower house was clean for a campground and their were flush toilets, and two showers. There is low or no phone or data signal depending on your carrier. The trials were fun for a family and ranged from moderate to rugged. There were lots of ravines on the trials and close to the cabins.
Great state park in southern illinois. Very quiet and peaceful. Has plenty of boat launches for canoes and kayaks. Definitely has a great drive if you dont want to leave your car. Plenty of hiking or equestrian trails. Many picnic shelters and pavilions that are in their own areas. definitely want to come back as soon as we can
Campground is good. Spots are set back in the woods and spaced out a little. It was peaceful at times but other campers were inconsiderate and started playing music loudly. DNR drove around several times but never told them to turn down the music. It continued until after 11PM. I dont believe they actually enforce the rules at all. Shower house was ok. It could have been cleaner. Trails seem pretty good. Some are rocked and well maintained but some are a little neglected.
I loved this park! Didnt much care for the shower nozzles. They felt like something you would use on the end of a power washer hose. And they water was way too hot for me. But I certainly would come back :))
Simply Beautiful! Wonderful trails, cant wait to go back again!
I went in for my first time camping with my boyfriend. I was recently diagnosed with POTS heart disease and I have not been able to do anything outside. So we find a spot, set up and then when we go to register the manager walks up and asks about it. Nice at first, I told him which spot I was at and asked if I had reservations I said no, Ive never done this i just saw it was open and went it. He than proceeded to treat me like I took the spot. Told us we needed to leave even though the people who had reserved it has not shown up since yesterday or called. Told us we could move to spot 5. As we are taking our stuff down he pulls up and tells us that, that spot is also taken. He did apologize but it was very insincere. He actually made me cry. Ill never come back
Beautiful park, however the trees are thinned out in some areas too much to the point where it doesnt look like a natural forest anymore. Some trails are also in need of repair.
The camping was really good, very peaceful and pleasant. The trails were very nicely kept. We had a great time!
Great for a family outing or a nice walk thru the trails for exercising
So many different types of trails to walk, pavilions to cookout, play areas and even access to the river where y can kayak or just site see. I take my family there all the time.
One of the best places Ive ever camped! Lots of space, and its far enough from town to feel secluded but close enough that its still convenient. When I visited, there was a minor tick infestation in the mens bathroom, which affected myself and the other men on our trip, but I believe theyve taken care of that completely now. And even in light of that, the trip was still a ton of fun! If youre in East Central Illinois and looking to camp, look no further!
Very scenic. Great for a relaxing afternoon hike.
Its so fun my dog lives to go there its her favorite place and she loves to see the bugs and I love to show my friends my pictures of the woods
Very nice spots, not to close to others
What a gorgeous find along the Embrass River. The hiking is remarkably hilly for Central Illinois, with great areas to explore quietly or enjoy the many park amenities with friends. They have a great playground and many picnic table locations. They also have camping on site if you want to stay longer. This was our return trip and loved the hiking with our kids!
Lake closed to the public. Private resents only allowed to fish.
Relaxing. Well took care of. Staff easy to work with. Very clean.
Fantastic park camp sites are fire and the camp host John is a great guy
Fantastic trails! A bit steep but beautiful!
Not sure what the deal is but it’s Labor Day weekend and according to the sign there’s supposed to be a camp host to buy firewood and ice from but got here 7pm last night (Friday) and no one on duty (10pm close) plus someone was supposed to be here at 2 (Sat) and it’s past that point with no access to firewood. No one came during the posted hours on Sat. Just wondering what they expect a campground full of people to do. Campfires are part of the whole camping experience. Toilet paper in women’s room was running low on second day there. The camp office was supposed to be open at 7am Sunday but wasn’t when I checked, around 11:15am. Definitely not coming back here, what a joke.
Host couple are very nice. This is the cleanest campground we have stayed at in a long time. Each camping spot is tucked back into the trees and there are trees separating the camping spots. You dont feel like you are just crammed into this park. We will definitely camp here again!
We LOVE going here!!!!We have birthday parties here every year!!!We enjoy the trails and pavilions to eat at!!
Family friendly and lots of good hiking trails
Pretty nice place to visit
Love it... my roommate/BFF works there. We have been to a wedding and a family reunion there this year already! Grew up going to the park my whole life. Enjoy camping and hiking
Lovely little campground in the woods. The sites are kind of close together, but theres plenty of plantlife separating them (trees and the sort). We went there for a Monday night, so it was fairly empty. There was a playground with swings and a massive and beautiful momma-tree over-looking it. The restroom facilities were easily accessible and decently clean. Each site looked like it had electric, fire ring, picnic table, and a tall hook to hang up food or trash from bears. I think it was $20 for the night with a self-registration booth. Would absolutely visit again.
Beautiful place to visit. Nice trails. Just be careful while you are there, and check for ticks thereafter.
Wonderful place to camp been camping here every summer for years
My kids and I had a great time camping, hiking, and hanging out. We will definitely go back!
Trails need to be better marked. The trails was kind of muddy in areas. A bridge on trail was washed out enter at own risk. Did not camp but drove thru camping area. Camping area was nice, clean. Over all I still enjoyed my day.
Great pricing agent activities!
In the area we live in there is literally hardly anything to do here. This Park offers camping, fishing and hiking and more!! . Nice park with lots of trails. There is a river in the back that you can also canoe and or swim in.
It is a beautiful place with lots of picnic benches and trails. Looks like it would be fun for the whole family.
Great place to take in nature
This is a nice quiet campground. The spots are spacious and secluded from one another. There are some really nice hiking trails.
Ive visited a lot of nice Illinois state parks and campgrounds within my 41 years and by far Fox Ridge State Park beats all. Honestly, they offer a fenominal campground with the cleanest shower house Ive ever seen.. Not only do they have hot showers but also you dont half to keep pressing the button to keep the shower head running. The nicest campground host offering awesome hospitality. Nice remote and secluded campground units with plenty of space in-between units as well. The park offers a ton of sight seeing hiking trails and a beautiful River along the back of the park as well. My wife and I are definitely coming back to visit. This park is definitely an asset to Illinois and if you get a chance stop and visit Fox Ridge and give it a shot.. I garrantee you that you will be wanting to visit more then once!
Greatest gift
This is a beautiful area with trails for everyone. The park is always clean and well kept.
Beautiful and well maintained campground and trails! Definitely recommend it if you like to hike.
Love going here!!! Such a nice place for not jus fun with ur kids yet fun with the whoke family! This is where we have our reunion every year!!!
Great place for fun and family time
Nice and quite. Very pretty
Great trails to take your pets on
Very pretty, relaxing, the crickets in the hunters section were singing a chorus...beautiful park!
Good atmosphere and open campground with plenty to do. Be prepared to get dirty and have fun hiking around.
It has beautiful scenery but it need a place to get into water
Easy and moderate trails and lots of paved spaces too. Great pavilions for parties too
Great park
Always able to capture peace and quiet here
I had a wedding at fox ridge.it was awesome.clean and peaceful.
How could I ever give nature less than five stars?? Such a classic place.
We enjoyed our stay, the private camping spots, the staff, and the facility.
Great place to enjoy some hills in otherwise flat Illinois but the trails could use some work in terms of fixing bridges, leveling out deep ruts and fallen trees. Park map needs updating for at least trail 1.
Great hiking trails. We hiked from brick pavilion to Eagles Nest, and back by a different path. Late October is good for seeing autumn colors and viewing the Embrass River.
Love this place. Perfect for a good nature walk, picnic, or anything else you could want to do in nature. Always worth the trip!
A great camping, fishing, hiking spot.
Unbelievably peaceful!!
Great place for a family reunion, or a hike in nature!
Some sites 30 amp only, some sites 50 amp. NO ONE in this entire camp, no one on duty, no one answering phones. Went to website recommended by phone, but not able to reserve any sites even though they said available to reserve. Thanks for the help, guys. NO WATER hookups. Thats why no one is there to camp and lots are overgrown.
Great hiking and fishing. Very peaceful
Loved it. Trails were great and well kept. Could use some more markers along trails but other than that it was a great experience for me and my 2 dogs.
Great place for camping, hiking, or just a picnic lunch.
This is a nice park with multiple trails. Ridge Lake, in the park is fun. It is open in summer FREE, but limited hours. You just call and make a reservation. They supply row boats with wet wells for fish. It is a research lake, so staff will measure weigh, etc. You can have fish if the correct size and keep for dinner. (Fishing has approx 100 steps down to lake(or maybe just feels like it), not W/C accessible)They also have cabins for rent (you supply linen)and camping spots. Baseball diamonds, pavilions and playgrounds.
Great location to leave the city behind.
Connecting trails with multiple elevation changesGravel on the creekside trails and dirt otherwiseRolling woodland
This is a great state park! Lots of trails, some of which are pretty challenging for Illinois, and plenty of places for picnics! The Embarras River flows threw the park, which provides a great canoeing/kayaking experience. Put in up by the Charleston Dam, and get out on the southern portion of the park, makes for a great trip!
Great if you just want family reunion or something like that. Trails are also awesome for feel of mother nature.
Great place
Great location, and truck parking
We had a very nice picnic. A very clean park with a beautiful lake.
Great park. Huge camping spots. Definitely going back there!
Amazing place to have picnics
Nice park! The hiking trails are fun.. Also the canoeing is kind of an interesting experience!
Very nice place and pretty
Held a wedding here. Good location & pretty park.
Fun state park. Lots of trails and well maintained.
Nice, quiet and play areas for the kids.
I booked online. Pretty sure that little girl you see playing by the water on their website is not at Fox Ridge. I found water, but I wouldnt touch it. Fine campsite.
So much wild life! One of the most comfortable campsites. Very private settings as the sites are spaced out nicely. Big plus for us, we HATE crowded campsites. Would definitely come back to this state park in a heartbeat!
Excellent! Yes.
Beautiful campground and hiking trails!
Its a nice area
