A Fazio course you definitely should try. This course can be deceptive as wind tunnels in areas you dont expect. Nice diversity of long holes with big greens mixed with shorter holes that tempt you to go for a tucked pin or guarded green. Course is usually always in great shape and staff is friendly. Large range if you just want to come to hit some balls as well. I do find this course is a tad pricey for the area but it is one of the best public courses you can play in the area.

Great layout, municipal course greens and why does this massive range make you hit off of mats? For the name and price I would expect to have greens that would equal the name UNC Chapel Hill and this huge range made us hit off of mats that are difficult at most to tee up a driver and get ready for a 70 plus dollar round. CLOSE DOWN FOR A SUMMER AND CONVERT TO BERMUDA GREENS!!!!

Great staff and course layout. I would recommend requesting the sprinkler rate. Our group fought off the sprinklers for three holes on the back nine. It was 1pm on a Thursday. Putting through puddles was no fun. Our clubs got wet.Raleigh received 1.5 inches of rain two days before. Superintendent said they needed to water the greens at 1pm because of fridays heat of 90* deg F. It is what it is. Ill be back to Finley. I hope with less salt in my system from those sprinklers.

Ive worked here, Ive played here, Ive had some really great memories here. I love everything about it EXCEPT for the 11th hole. I never liked that one and I always double it at minimum. If we could redesign it or even just eliminate it by playing 10 twice, Im good with that change.

Just played UNC again 7/4/2020. As usual, great track in great condition. This course is a winner!!!!7/2019:8 of us came from Pittsburgh to Pinehurst for 4 days. While there we went up to Chapel Hill to play UNC Finley. Its the second time Ive played the course. Absolutely wonderful track!!! Beautifully kept, staff is great!

The greens were descent and the front desk and starter were very good but thats where it ended. It was cart path only but you actually needed an Everglades air boat to get through the mud and standing water. You could barely find a spot to place your ball after it was plugged in the fairway or rough.Thankfully I got a Hotdeal on GolfNow to play here but even then it wasnt worth the gas I spent to play here. Otherwise I would have spent close to $80.It was a sad sad day.

I usually love this nice golf club. But I have to say something happened today. I went to there to use its range and tried to use coins to get balls. One of them did not work, so I went to a snack bar to ask to exchange it. The lady in there said to me that the coin is not for Finley, which marked C, though mine is marked B. That was fine for me, even though I do not know what happened with my coins. Actually, only Finley uses coins near Chapel Hill. However, the lady said loudly to me, I will give you a coin, so next time, you have to pay!!!. I said I did not mean to use balls for free. Then she said You can just say thank you and go. I AM SO EMBARRASSED. For a while, I went back and returned the coin with my words Thank you for consideration, but I dont wanna get the coin because I am not a beggar or not a freerider. Am I so sensitive? No. I dont think so. I am so disappointed with Finley.

I really like the track, save #10, but thats probably because I cant hit a sweeping cut off the tee. In cooler weather the course is very walkable. The greens were rolling true and were very receptive. After heavier play the greens can be on the rough side with all of the ball marks, but this time that wasnt the case. Ill definitely be back again.

It was a pretty good course. Greens were surprisingly soft and bent-like but a bit shaggy and beat up, although I played at the end of the day. Rough was sparse in spots. The back nine was a lot cooler than the front nine in terms of the course layout. The staff was awesome, especially the chatty starter who hooked me up with a great starting slot so that I was able to play the entire 18 despite starting at 5:30 p.m.

This is a championship caliber golf course that is in great condition with manicured fairways and immaculate greens. The only downside? Its really difficult, and it gets harder on the back. For an average golfer, expect a very challenging round, even from the blue tees (6163 yds). Many tee boxes to choose from makes it accessible for players of all skill levels, but this will be a test no matter how good you are.

Played 3/27/17. Wow what a great experience. Was in town visiting a friend and he was able to secure us a tee time. I can honestly find nothing negative to say about anything or anyone associated with the facility. Staff are super friendly and very helpful, food at the grill was great. The golf course is tough but fair. A lot of well placed bunkers for the average handicapper. Greens are well guarded as well. Rolling course with many elevation changes. Pace of play was great. Early spring so the course hasnt greened up yet but when it does im sure it will be beautiful. Well worth the money. Cant wait for my next trip back at NC

Not a great experience, called ahead to ask about rates. Was told in advance that the greens were punched (which was great info) and told them we had only time to play nine and needed a 9 hole rate. However, was told to just come out and they would work with us.We got out there and the guy behind the desk said they only had 18 hole rates and it would be 58 bucks, plus rentals (we were on a business trip no clubs)When I asked him about why he couldnt give a 9 hole rate he said it was only available on-line, but I could not book it within an hour of the requested time. He didnt even look up to provide eye contact during this exchange. So after all totaled it would cost us over a 100 bucks for rentals and balls and green fees for a punched course. The kid behind the counter was not helpful and to be quite honest he was rude. Great way to treat guests and make them feel welcome to southern golf. The vibe was a pretentious golf course and staff. Its shame I didnt get to at least rate the course. We left.Terrible customer service.

This is a pretty challenging course. You play the first 10 holes before crossing the street to finish out the last 8. The course has been in good condition every time I have played it. There is a driving range, chipping green, and two large putting greens. The price can be pretty steep during peak season/hours, but if you get the GolfNow app you can typically find some pretty good deals, especially if you wait until the morning of and choose late AM/early PM times.

Its an overpriced course that lives on the laurels of being UNCs course in Chapel Hill. The driving range balls look like they havent been changed in 3-4 years, many of which have no logos left. The course itself can be in great shape or horrible shape, just depends on the day but the price tag is not worth it when compared to other area public courses.

This is an amazing golf course. I actually played it for the first time on a gloomy day. It was about 55 degrees and raining or misting most of the time. The back nine is, by far, the more beautiful part of the course but it plays a little bit harder. Holes 15 and 16 are two of the three hardest holds on the course. The view from 16 tee is absolutely amazing though.Even if you arent a long hitter this golf course is still a lot of fun. There are a couple of shorter par 4 holes that play under 350. This always brings some strategy into play.

The course is decent and the grounds are taken care of pretty well. Thats about where the good experience stops. My friend was running late so I told them I would pay for the whole cart and he would join us on hole 2 or 3 when he got there. Well when he got there they tried to make him pay for the cart saying that each person has to pay to ride. Even though I had already fully paid for the cart for both of us and he told them this so he decided to walk. The marshal was kind enough to give him a ride out to us on the green of hole one and we continued.By hole 7 we noticed marshal had started to follow us. As we were approaching the 8th green, the marshal stopped us to tell us we were 1 minute behind pace and that we would have to pick up the pace. In my 15+ years of golfing, Ive never been told to pick up the pace on a course nor have a seen a marshal follow a group that is 1 minute behind pace. I was shocked and offended that he felt the need to follow 4 grown adults around who werent drinking nor playing a slow pace. I always play ready ball and never spend more than a minute looking for my ball before dropping and continuing play.We finally lost the Marshall by the 10th green when he realized we werent actually playing slow and maybe it was because we teed off 10 minutes later than our scheduled tee time. We ended up finishing in just over 4 hours, well ahead of pace but also pretty annoyed that we were rushed earlier in the round.Im not normally one to complain and I contemplated writing a review for a month before finally deciding other people need to know. The greens are nice and fast. The course is pretty well taken care of. Could have better practice facilities but all in all it was fine. My issue was with the staff over charging my friend and harassing our pace of play when we werent even behind. For the amount they charge I expected more. I am new to the area and will gladly check out other courses before trying finley again. Hope you all have a better experience. The only reason they got 2 stars instead of one was due to the quality of the greens. Nothing technically difficult but they were taken care of well.

OK So the greens are nice and the course in OK but thats as far as it goes for an extremely expensive course for what you get. We showed up for a 1:50 T time which at most courses would be twilight discount. I am also a senior golfer. And a NC tax payer who helps support UNC. Now, the fee to ride was $68...I was told that was the senior rate and twilight rate. My son in law who is in his 20s payed the same amount. I later found that we could have gone on line and played for $28. Not only was that bad but the course was so saturated that it was cart path only so we should have gotten a discount for that. NO the pro shop could not have cared less. I will not return to UNC Finley and the other two I was playing with said they wouldnt either. There are too many better courses for less cost. But then this is a State funded UNIVERSITY! course so they dont have to worry about anything but the college elites.

I dont know what these chumps are talking about, but UNC Finley is an outdated course that got a makeover ten some-odd years ago. As such courses go, it is awkward to play, the front nine is very easy (I shot 32 and 33 the last two times out and most times i play its no different, as is per usual with most one day professionals) and the back is just plain boring. It is a touted layout because it is connected to UNC. Almost no water on the course ever comes into play unless your a 20ish handicap. Even on number 9, it takes a shot sliced 30 yards off target with 6-7 iron or an overkill by 30 yards to hit the drink. 10 and 11 are poorly designed. the Play on these holes is a 3 iron off the tee and a 3 wood into the green (its about 450 yards but doglegs so massively and with the oddest amount of slope). someone probably thought it looked different back in the day, but different almost never implies a good hole. Im surprised they havent scrapped this hole. Its a joke. When qualifying for the team here, i had to start on the rather bs hole. imagine that kind of play at 830 in the morning. On the back, the holes are all 450 par fours with something to carry about 250 out so you beat a drive out there and hit a 7 iron into the green and make maybe 2 putts per round. I will say, the greens roll very true; Finley got it right with the greens. As opposed to Davis Loves ( Jordan Lake course - which doesnt have the finances to keep the greens cut and rolling anything lower than a 5) Finley has very nice green complexes.Bottom line, most of the time people who love dean smith and roy williams or who know someone who went to carolina or have been fans for a while maybe stopping by the walmart on the way to the course -->this type often leaves the course with rave reviews. If youre used to playing on goat tracks this is a step in the right direction. Staff is arrogant ( I cant figure this one out; then again, i would be too if i were a 70 year old cart boy ) Food is all premade and full of MSG and other preservatives (think ball park food). If youre in the area, i suggest go play dukes course. The range is made of actual grass (finley you hit off of mats - keeping the range expenses low so you can pay the 50 year olds with careers at finley when simple college kids would do a speedier, cheaper job and do it perhaps better). Finley also offers ZERO student discounts.
