As a low handicap player I had the pleasure to play this course from the tips. The course was in great shape and the greens were a challenge with their suttle breaksMy wife also played and does not play to the same standard of golf and found some of her shots which needed to carry over trouble difficult. The young man in the Pro shop was very helpful and knowledgeable about the course. He politely asked if my wife & myself were over 60 which we are, and adjusted the price accordingly.Regardless of the price, this course is well worth the money that you pay.Unfortunately as I live in Fl I can not play this course that often but I definitely be back there as soon as I can.

Very much a placement course. Good hit shots are not always rewarded. Greens are scalped so low to keep them fast but gives an unappealing look with all the blade marks

Great practice range. The only reason this did not get 5 stars is that the practice range balls are absolutely horrible. Got a lot of cracked ones in the basket.

The course is a great - very challenging layout - and its been through some challenges the past 5 years but the recent crew of Director of Golf Dan and Head Pro Devin and others have worked extremely hard to make the course very enjoyable. Give it a try.

Championship Bermuda greens a bit slow but overall in great shape. Fairways mostly good. Some thin spots. Sand in bunkers is a bit gravelly. More like beach sand. Nice clubhouse. Great deals offered if you call or book direct with club. Paid only $45 for nice weekend tee time.

Played for the first time in over 15 years. The course was challenging but not so hard or discouraging. The course conditions were very good and their greens were immaculate. The clubhouse is nice, not over the top and the food was very good. My only criticism was we only saw the beverage cart once per side. Being mid summer and in the mid-to-high 90s, they need at least two beverage carts roaming the course.

I like the course, its the people who work there that need to improve. I went to play with a friend from out of town in January of 2019. We knew the course would be wet as it had rained, plus it was the middle of winter. So we both had jeans on for winter golf, but we werent allowed on the course because we were in denim. We went home, changed, came back to play and of course trashed our nice pants with mud.Fast forward to today, our tee time was 10:50 and by 10:35, the starter was pressing my golf partner to hurry up and get going. I showed up at 10:40 (as I had to take care of my kids) and was immediately pressured to hurry out there. They paired us up with another twosome but there was a single behind us and then no one. So all that pressure to hurry up was not needed. And sending a single behind a foursome was not very smart, either. It just seems every time I play here, there are people who dont realize who the customer is. I can always give my money to other courses, and will most likely do so in the future. Even the beverage cart girl was rude and didnt show up until the 16th hole on a 92° day. Too many unpleasant experiences for me.

Played here January 9th, course was in great condition for the time of year. Neat layout as well. Unfortunately my cart broke down on the 13th hole, and the pro shop didnt answer my many phone calls. Didnt finish my round, by the time I finally made it back it was after five and the pro shop was closed. Havent been able to get it resolved since as there is never anyone available to get on the phone. They also dont have a head golf pro. Wont be returning until it has been resolved or an email is returned. Very dissatisfied.

The layout is nice and we used to play this course a few times a year but the conditions have drastically gotten worse and worse. Fairways, tees, bunkers etc...trash all over the course and tracks from maintenance and golf carts making the course awful...Will not return - too many other good options in the triangle...

This is a very nice golf course with green complexes that will make you think. There are a lot of shots over hazards, so smart play is important. A very pleasant afternoon.

Review №26

The course layout is nice. But, there are several reasons why I wont return. For starters the course is in horrible shape for what they ask in greens fees. Most of the bunkers are either mud pits or have no sand. Several large sections on a few fairways looked like ground under repair. Also the neighborhood/club members (its semi-private) jog on the cart paths. Ive never seen a course where this is allowed. Its distracting, not to mention having to wait on several shots slows down play. And, on one hole, a homeowner was out in his yard casually watching golfers while his dog was loose in his yard and would not stop barking. I dont mind the audience but it would be nice if the neighbors showed courtesy to those playing. Finally, as I turned a blind corner heading to the #17 tee, there was a grounds-crewman who had his pants around his knees on the teebox. Im not sure if he was tucking in his shirt or what, but this just seemed unprofessional.Youre better off spending the extra $10-15 and play Finley or Lonnie Poole. Or, save a few dollars and play somewhere municipal.

Course is in good shape, friendly staff, good value. Would have liked to see a Player Assistant (Ranger) swing thru the course and speed up the group in front of us. It took over 2-1/2 hours to play the front 9. Good news is that group was gone after 9 and we played the back in under 2 hours.

Have played here multiple times over the past several years as part of our annual golf trip to the Pinehurst area. Always enjoyed the course for its excellent playing conditions & layout. However not the case in 2018. Course conditions were terrible & very disappointing given our past experiences playing here. Large areas in virtually every fairway were without any type of grass. What happened here???We will not be back ( party of 8 golfers).

Very good lay-out, challenging golf course typical of Davis,Love III design. Dye system in greens and fairways results in aesteticly pleasuring play. Greens are challenging for even lower handicapped golfer. Could not rate as 5 star due to grainy quality in greens that results in unpredictable ball movement as speed decreases. Three low handicappers in group agreed. This is a recommended course, but pay special attention to greens. Also be aware of some hidden carries if its your first time playing this course. The course is not recommended for higher handicap players.

This used to be my go to course, a real gem. Played today and it was in the absolute worst condition I have ever seen it in. No sand in the traps literally, greens looked average w scars on them, fairways were terrible. Not sure what happened but I wont be back for a long time.Update: Emailed the golf director about a month after writing my original review and got no response.Based on continued poor reviews Id recomend steering clear. Its obvious current management is not interested in maintaining the course appropriately. I wonder how many of these reviews that are five stars are even real. What a shame.

Great place to play a round of golf. Lots of shade covered cart path to escape the NC heat. The course is well maintained. Holes and fairways are spread out well. Spectacular houses to look at while playing. The course needs a drink cart driving around. Since the holes are spread out it is not an easy trip back to the club house to get a beer or Gatorade.

Zero stars isnt an option?!Before I begin, let me first state that I very rarely post negative online reviews for businesses. Random bad days can happen. Now, with that out of the way, I cannot possibly be more clear about The Preserve: STAY AWAY.The problems with this golf course are numerous — and many have been discussed on the forums — but I would not be surprised if this place is out of business in the next few years unless new ownership takes over.1. The fairways. You could not find poorer conditions at a semi-private club if you tried. Dead grass, dirt, areas marked off as unplayable, widespread weeds ... this place has it all. The Preserve has always been known for poor drainage, but the current conditions go well beyond anything that might be considered remotely acceptable.2. The bunkers. No sand. Not raked. Weeds actually growing in the traps. Just awful.3. The greens. Dead spots. Slow as molasses. Dreadful.4. The carts. Old as dirt, not cleaned out. Parking brake would not engage on ours, which isnt only inconvenient on the hilly course like the Preserve, but is also unsafe.5. Pace of play. On a Saturday midday, management has ONE ranger deployed for the entire course. Multiple foursomes bunched up waiting at tee boxes, no one telling less skilled golfers to pick up their balls and move on.Ultimately, there are many, many better options in the Triangle, including the Preserves sister course, Chapel Ridge. It had been four years since I played the Preserve — I thought maybe it had improved since then — and I can confidently say that I will never go back. There is a reason why the Preserves membership specials seem too good to be true: Its a weird track with horrible conditions.

One of the best golf courses in the Triangle. Always in great shape. Challenging and very rewarding. Mike Myer, the Director of Golf, is the best and always friendly and helpful. Kathy Bounds, the Head Golf Professional, always greets you with a smile. The starters and rangers get you out on time and do their best to maintain a good pace of play.

Jordan Lake has got to be one of the best, or the best, public courses in the area. It has everything I like in a golf course, varying terrain, scenic shots, and great pace of play. If you are staying in the area, I would highly recommend that Jordan Lake be near the top of courses to play.

The Preserve is a beautiful course but it is just too daunting for most average golfers. When I went to the Preserve to play I was playing with a single digit handicapper and he struggled. At the time I was not great but this course made my game even worse. There are tons of hazards and you have to be spot on with your shot making. If you are new to golf I would never suggest going to this course. If you are very good and you have pinpoint accuracy I would love to hear how your round went. It is just not set up for my game.

Ne
Review №53

Played The Preserve about a year ago. First, this is a wonderfully-kept, exquisite course that tests every aspect of your game. Fairways are tight and rolling, greens are tough, LOTS of forced natural waste-area carries, and the fairway bunkers are plentiful and punitive (just like most Davis Love courses). If you miss the fairway, kiss your ball goodbye. The good news is that its easy to get a tee time, even on weekend AM; the bad news is that is b/c most people, esp. the older casual players, would rather play somewhere else rather than a course that beats you up. Plays a lot longer than its listed yardage no matter which tee you choose. Lots of houses along the course, but they are so high-end that they actually enhance the playing experience (one the very few community courses I can say that about). One other problem I have heard others complain about is that the clubhouse staff can sometimes be a bit aloof and impersonal. A beautiful Davis Love design, for those dare to see (and play) it.
