Small but really nice museum. Good idea to spend some time.
Love love love love love! Stopped by with my stepdaughter to return tactile art -- they have an area where you are able to touch everything, experience it as it was used, to some degree, and you can even take pieces/prints elsewhere! The permanent collection has LOVELY art nouveau pieces, but we didnt have time to go to most of the areas.
It is a nice small museum. However, in April 2019, the overly eager security team still exists and severely damaged my overall experience. I did not feel free to discuss the art out loud with my partner, even though we were the only ones there besides staff. The constant eyes on made me feel rushed while viewing. At least if the staff is going to join us walking around they could be a giving an informal tour to make us feel a little at ease. It was just such an odd, uncomfortable experience. We discussed that instead of the art on the way home.
Ive visited art museums in NYC, Chicago, and other cities, so I thought the Kranert museum wouldnt have anything interesting for me, but I was completely wrong, they have a great selection of art pieces, including paintings and sculptures from Greece, Italy, and Peru. They even have a piece by the impressionist Camille Pisarro!! Loved the place
Great field trip location. The museum facilitators do a nice job of getting info to the students in a fun and creative way.
This museum, has a lot to offer from early americas artifacts art work from early history Greek, Roman,17 an 18 center, and current exhibits,,,,great place to visit
Quite the lovely place. There is a lot of knowledge and emotion to absorb!
Stunning architectural design for the times. A uniquely beautiful building. The museum features a wide array of art from pieces to live performances.
A very interesting place to visit. Im glad we made time to see.
Great art pieces both up and downstairs. Very enjoyable place to visit with incoming guests and walking around campus. They were hosting a dance class on the day we stopped by with live music in one of the galleries.
Probably the best Museum in town. They showcase a lot of variety right from Egyptian/African civilizations to modern day Chicago art movements. If you have at least 10 people you can contact them and be a part of an organized tour which is amazing. They also have a coffee shop where you can meet and grab coffee before or after.
Amazing displays...and free!!! Kids interactive area is phenomenal
Awesome free art museum. Its amazing that we have this available to us
This was incredible! I wish I could have spent another 3 hours in it.
Awesome! Great for anyone of any age who enjoys art!
GREAT exhibits and always a pleasure to see student work.
KAMs collection shows some variety, and the Ancient Peruvian artifacts are especially interesting (the lighting there, however, is very underwhelming). Interpretive information in the permanent exhibition galleries is kept to a bare minimum, except for a few pieces. The flow between galleries is a bit weird: I cant remember in my other museum visits that I had to cross a classroom to proceed from one gallery to the next. Nonetheless, this place is free and quiet, and the staff is friendly. It makes a nice indoor escape from a hot summer day or a bleak winter day. Last, more than 1/3 of the galleries were closed in preparation for new exhibitions during my visit (it seems to me that too much of their space is used for temporary exhibitions). I am looking forward to seeing more of what this museum has to offer the next time Im in town.
Very nice building filled with beautiful art. Not to mention it’s free.
Such a great gem hidden on campus! Really enjoyed the regular collection as well as the feature exhibits on display. A huge bonus was the student exhibit. #art
KAM is a traditional style art museum with architecture typical of the 1960’s. It is connected to the University of Illinois’ school of Fine and Applied Arts via a wide glass hallway that has a frequently rotating body of university student work on display. The museum galleries are well described on the museum’s website. Because this is a “teaching museum” one may find groups of students of all ages viewing galleries. They have an active education program, also described on the website. Teachers should explore a field trip to this museum. You would be amazed at how the staff there can use art to teach subjects you would not imagine are connected.Besides traditional art programs the museum hosts many special events in the galleries including music, dances, yoga classes, lectures, etc. All giving the museum a life far beyond just people quietly moving about looking at art.A large part of the main gallery space rotates on a regular basis keeping the museum ever fresh. If one visits just a few times a year it is very likely that there will be many changes as a large portion of the main floor changes several times a year shows of both museum owned work as well as traveling installations.A visit is well worth your time (but sadly they are closed on Sundays).
I just usually study here. Its serene and beautiful
Many cool art collections, including classic and modern art.
Great collection, wonderful events happen here. Plus theres a really good coffee shop in the museum. A must visit!
Lovely place to visit. Itll take atleast 2 hours for you to see everything.
From out of town and love going to art museums so I thought I would introduce my boyfriend to one & make it a cute date. The art work was beautiful and thought provoking but sadly the security was too much. Every move we made one woman was right behind us. As my boyfriend wanted to show me something he stuck his finger out just to direct my attention & she made it her mission to say do not touch. Although he was no where near touching the glass. I’ve never been to a art museum with such overbearing security, it truly does ruin the experience.
Love it. A good educational place
Love the art pieces they have
Great feast for heart mind and soul all around
Huge variety in styles and mediums of beautiful art.
Decent quite place with variety
Not busy. Free admission. Cool exhibits. Laid back atmosphere. Great place to take selfies.
The museum itself was wonderful. The only downside was the super creepy security people. I was pretty much the only person there on a Monday afternoon and when the guy saw me, he just stared and followed me around pretty closely. It was a bit much and it was very awkward.
Krannert does a great job with their exhibitions and public programs
Really cool art museum for a college campus. Way more extensive than I was expecting and a lot of artifacts from all over the world. I do want to mention that the security here is a bit much, as other guests have commented. They follow you around and are overall a bit intimidating. Im not going to steal anything! There also seems to be a no-photos rule though I didnt see any signs and it only seemed to be enforced in certain areas (or maybe by certain security people?). Overall a really good smallish museum.
Yeet! Love art lots of art, what can I say
Nice place to visit, take school trips..not promoted enough to the community
To see some world-class work at Krannert Art Museum so great museum to visit great galleries
Very nice place, on campus . There are many good things and artifact to see but not kids friendly.
Cool interesting stuff
Small but very nice
A very well maintained museum.
Security guards followed around the entire time, even spoke in their head sets stating me and my friends every move as we were walking around the museum (example, as we were going down the stairs, they stated they are going down the stairs then another security guard stared as us as we walked down the stairs.) Made us feel extremely uncomfortable, just trying to look at the art in peace without eyes constantly staring and following our every move.
Im pretty impressed with their art selection
I really enjoyed this museum and it was free.
Really awesome free to the public museum.
Lots of great artwork on display here. Staff is there whenever you need them.
Nice small museum. The intrusiveness of the guards did freak me out (could be a bit more subtle)
Watch for tango in Saturday afternoon
Couldn’t enjoy the art with the security woman hovering near. She told use we were standing too close to the displays, which weren’t roped off. I couldn’t read the information about each piece because I had to stand back so far. Left early.
Quite place to go to rest and good for taking classes
Very awesome place!
