The Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum Is a tribute to Carrollton’s history as a cotton market and mill town. Living just a mile from The Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum, I have the opportunity to stop in and see each exhibition of quilts and textiles. I didn’t know that there are so many quilts organized for exhibition. While this museum itself owns many quilts that could be exhibited, it is also part of a network of traveling quilt exhibitions. The Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum is a friendly place to visit. The most recent (7/18/2020) photos posting here are from many quilts in the Sacred Threads exhibition. Each quilt is a very emotionally charged exhibit in itself. With narration available on your smart phone you can hear the quilter’s explanation for each quilt. You may want to allow more time than usually given for a quilt exhibit due to the intense emotions and gripping narratives. Living nearby, I plan a return trip.Call ahead (social distancing) to arrange your visit to the Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum.
This museum is such a gift to Georgia. It offers an intimate space for viewing and studying works in cloth. Truly excellent exhibits. From modern to traditional to antique to art quilts—they do it all. Just a quick drive from Atlanta, walking distance from the Carrollton town square where there are restaurants and shops. It makes for a great Saturday!
Was a little disappointed. Was expecting a large hall of quilts to be admired, however this wasnt the case they have two rooms for walls and a room filled with quilt books for members, then a small reception area. The procedures for how they choose quilts for display is somewhat a mystery. This place has great growth potential to be such a wonderful place for tourists.
Very interesting and helpful staff
Interesting if you know anything about sewing. Beautiful work and skill
Big disappointment. Expected more than just a handful of items and one display room.
Great exhibits and library of books on fabric/textile arts.
Great little museum for the fabric arts.
Great exhibits!
