Always enjoy coming here with my kids! Absolutely loved the new area with the animals. You can even see the new fossils being found behind the glass, what a cool way for kiddos to learn about our history and how our planet became what it is today. I also wanted to add i love that most of these fossils and finding are straight out of Montana or surrounding states! Thank you for all this museum has to offer!
Gish. What a great museum. The finished exhibit was terrific a real education. To top it off the Mengelsen photos were the icing on the cake, stunning work!
It is a wonderful museum. However if you are a museum fanatic like I am (And too old to be on you feet for all day) I would suggest allowing two days to see it all. The fossil/dinosaur exhibit is awsome. And they have good covid19 protocols in place.
My children loved it in here! They got extensive collections of dinosaur fossils and very entertaining exhibits. Its an ideal for a familys day-out and Im going to recommend this to my neighbor.
We never would have guessed that we would find such a fantastic museum in such a small town. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. They are doing a superb job keeping everything clean and the patrons safe, due to COVID.The curation of fossils and fossil replicas is outstanding. Honestly, it rivals the Smithsonian. Although it is significantly smaller, it is of the highest quality. The tyrannosaurus and triceratops processions are especially impressive. There’s even a mammoth skull that shows evidence of ancient human interaction on display! The biggest factor that makes the collection so impressive is that the majority of artifacts were found in Montana and the surrounding states. Be sure to check out the lab (from behind glass) where fossils are being cleaned and pieced together by professionals! The history of the state is illustrated with a strong, honest narrative. Native Americans are well represented and the exhibit on pioneers is a lot of fun.The living history exhibit behind the museum offered a chance to spend some time in the fresh air and was very cute. It’s well worth swinging by.Thank you for a lovely afternoon! I will be back next time I’m in the area.
Great place cant wait to visit when not covid.
We had a lovely time. Due to covid there were barely any people which was really nice, but I worry that they wont be able to stay open. Definitely stop by if you like museums and want to support them during this difficult time! A ton of museums are being forced to close and it would be very sad to lose this one.
What an educational experience regarding the dinosaur fossils and dogs. So much detail. Who knew that man also walked with some of the latest dinosaur. I highly recommend this as a destination must in Bozeman, Montana.
Wow! Great collection. Many of the significant finds are from in-state digs. No wonder this is a world class museum. well worth the time. It took us a couple of hours.
So cool! Way bigger and with more stuff to ser than you would think. We only got through half! We will definitely be going back. The current exhibit of Thomas Mangelsens photography is AWESOME!
The material within this facility was pretty neat and well kept. The reptile exhibit was great!! They do a nice job with informing their audience with signs about what the exhibits have in them. Moreover, the initial service of a long haired fellow was hospitable for a whole 20 seconds prior to our family alerting him that we wouldn’t be wearing masks. Once we informed him of our family’s genuine exemption to the governor’s mandate, he became beligerante and rude. He proceeded to scold us and nearly kicked us out. If it weren’t for the gentleman that knew the mandate and laws who came to this outrageous man’s rescue, this facility would’ve lost our service indefinitely. Later after enjoying the exhibits and upon leaving the building, a worker asked the long hair man if our family wore masks. This same long haired man proceeded to say to his lady coworker in sardonic tone what seemed to be extremely deliberate because of how loud it was, “Oh, their whole family has an exemption.” With that said, the exhibits were great. The customer service, which is a HUGE component to the experience, was extremely poor. We are hopeful the people in charge will deal with this man’s unprofessional conduct.
Nice museum. Breathtaking skeletons and historical events explanations you shouldn’t miss. I regret the fact that the place is small and that half of it is dedicated to time-limited exhibits. Great museum shop though. It was pretty expensive for the time I spent there. Still recommend it for the extraordinary things I saw.
My family and I loved it here! The Planetarium is a cool experience too!
Absolutely incredible. The most vast and detailed dinosaur exhibition I have ever seen and Im from London which is museum mecca. I would come back in a heartbeat.
Always an amazing time at MOR. Theres a little something for everyone.
It is a fascinating place to visit if history and astronomy is your thing. Live reptiles are also part of exhibit. Diamondback rattle snake to a giant python. Spitting cobra too.
This museum is clearly a national treasure, worth of a few hours if you are in the area. Particularly, we enjoyed both dinosaur fossil collection and the native Americans collection. The dinosaur fossil collection is very extensive and informative. Top of the world research on dinosaurs here as we were told. The museum stuff and volunteers are very helpful and knowledgeable. As we missed the regular guided tour, we were given a “short” version of the tour in the dinosaur fossil collection. Highly recommended!
Loved it! T Rex was the highlight. Gift shop was great. Bought things for the grandchildren
Dinosaurs are awesome. Great to see their actual size. Theres lots to read and unfortunately the information is difficult to read; too small and not enough light. Also, it was VERY difficult to social distance 6 from others. Felt quite uncomfortable with the crowding in certain areas. Beware!
Excellent place for kids and adults. Best collection of T-Rex bones around. Its an interesting 1 hour walk through time. Recommended for all, clean facility, nice staff, entertaining atmosphere. This is our 2nd trip in 3 years, still fun.
I never really get to travel but got to travel with my second kind of family...museum was suppppper cool...i usually do not write reviews but this was worth it! this made my traveling experience more interesting and made me more curious about this i couldnt even imagine
I have been to the Museum of the Rockies a few times and I love this place! I really enjoy all the exhibits they have (favorite is the dinosaur exhibit). Its really neat to go back in time with like the Native American exhibit and the exhibit that holds like the old homes, cars, antiques, etc... They have, during the summer, an outside exhibit of like some cool old artifacts and homesteading buildings. I recommend going at least one time during winter because they have a really cool planetarium that talks about the history of Christmas. I took my wife twice and we both loved it.
This was a fun stop. Lots of dinosaurs bones and info. Also pioneer stuff. Really neat stuff.
Fun and educational. Theyve got more than dinasaur bones, but also films about outer space, native Americans and pioneers. Just outside is a living history homestead. Great place to spend an afternoon.
Great visit, even during COVID-19. Awesome for kids as they have plaques, info, and readings for all ages.
We went during covid and wore masks the whole time. The museum was excellent, however many things were closed. Also there were several large school age groups which made it impossible to socially distance. I think it would be best to have specific hours for camps only- like the first or last hours of the day, that way there are not crowded areas.
Great Montana and rotating world history.
You say “Velociraptor,” I say “Deinonychus” twenty seven years ago, the blockbuster film Jurassic Park introduced ... Other times dinosaur species may get names that have already been used. Tyrannosaurus rex, the king of all dinosaur, cam as a hostile invader.Tyrannosaurus rex, king of the dinosaur age, wasnt a North American native as many experts had previously thought, a new study suggests. Instead, the giant tyrannosaur was likely an invasive species from Asia that dispersed into western North America once the opportunity presented itself, paleontologists said. T. rex was an invasive species from Asia.
The museum isnt made of cardboard which was disappointing. Also they didnt have free samples like they do at costco and k-mart
Even though portions of the museum were closed the visit was 5 star.
One of the greatest museums I have ever been to. I had thought it was a geology museum, but it is so much more. The museum covers geology, dinosaurs, transportation, the Romans and the native Americans. The gift store is not great, but the rest is very impressive. The dinosaurs section is one of the best I have ever seen, even when compared to larger museums like the Smithsonian.
Totally worth it, great staff
It was amazing! They take precautions, and they do it well! There are a wide variety of things, reptiles, native Americans, Yellowstones history, dinosaurs, and a planetarium! Its awesome!! 10/10 reccomend going there!
Not impressed with service there, wife was really hot went out to car to get a drink of water from car before one of the shows because cant bring drinks in, museum and what not, came back in 4 minutes left till 11:00 when show started and they would not let her in because they started it early, told her she couldnt be let in because it had already started and was full, even though they counted her as part of the group and told her she had time to go get a drink. All this after they had already stopped the show to let another person in after starting it early but told her once the show starts it cant stopped.
My wife and I enjoyed the museum immensely will be coming back soon, people in the gift store or so helpful and so friendly you couldnt help but want to come back, thank you very much for the experience of a lifetime.
Great exhibits, plenty of space for people to spread out.
The museum recently switched to Winter hours, those being 9 to 5. The museum itself was awesome- the dinosaur section had updated information, recent finds, tons of explanations and examples to read. Way more bones than Ive seen at any other museum. Even just to see the dino exhibit is worth it, but theres also a section about the polar region, one about settlers and the earlier days, and even a planetarium. So much to see here, I honestly could spend a couple hours looking at everything.
Great museum. We used our museum pass here for another museum. Loved the large collection of dinosaur bones. The kids area was great. My kids happily played there for an hour. They do turn off the noisy parts in the morning for kids that need a quieter time.
Amazing museum. Probably one of our favorites as weve traveled this beautiful country and have seen many museums. This museum is for all ages. Love the many dinosaur artifacts and displays. Fun times! Follow our adventure (see more photos) via Facebook/Instagram @ Happy Campers 227 as we travel this beautiful country full time.
Their exhibitions of both alive and deceased monsters brings a fuller picture to our world, what it is, what it was, and even what it will become(planetarium presentation).
Well displayed, as well the lay out is easy to go wherever you want in the museum. Also the attention to detail and pinpointing on displays where they where found was amazing. They also offered more elaborate displays off more recent history. Definitely check in to this place. It is well worth the $14 admission fee.
Great fossil exhibit, especially the age progression of two of the species.
Amazing dinosaur collection with rare fossils and great signage that really educates.
Wow, well worth the drive! One of the best exhibits Ive seen.
Awesome experience, definitely worth the price and stop. Will return!
Dinosaur exhibit was well worth the stop. Very well laid out.
Such an awesome museum! Would reccomend for all ages! We enjoyed the reptile exhibit the most! The alligator snapping turtle is too cool. Very informative and you can easily burn a couple hours here.
Exceeded my expectations! I didnt realize how much they had here. The dinosaur exhibit starts small and the further you go through it the more and more amazing it gets. If you have littles ones I would recommend kind of skipping past some of the smaller stuff at the beginning and head for the end of the exhibit. They also have a native American exhibit which I wasnt expecting but was so cool since thats what my son was learning about in school at the time. Additionally they have old cars and an old airplane. Very cool even with the childrens museum part closed due to COVID. My little ones still very much enjoyed it.
Excellent place to visit. So many fossils and the historic farm with actors in it is so cool. I love this place.
First time here, visiting from AZ and we loved it here, most definitely coming back!
Love this museum as it has bunch of real dinosaurs fossils and full scale of the sizes. It even raises some questions besides the display and let you read the details to find out the answer. For example, why there is hole in the skull of this dinosaur, it’s used to let vessel pass thru. From the bone you can see those *tops are actually different because some of them has the hole and some does not. Also they may have two horns or three horns.
I love to come here when they open a new exhibit. They always have fascinating exhibits. Their dinosaur selection is a little limited, but this is a good place to take some kids who want to learn a little more about history!
Exhibits are very well marked and easily accessible. Plenty of items to see here.
Love the way it engages my kids every time we come! Its a fabulous stop for a visitor, and worth the membership as a local to visit with kids all year (especially the long winter!)
A lot is closed because of covid but still a great experience for the kids.
Lovely museum with great dinosaur exhibits!
Thats an awesome museum to visit both for adults & children! Impressive collection of dinosaurs!!! Thats something you will never forget Plus there are other expos such as about Native Americans, homes in the pasts, crocs, etc.
My best museum. You can learn alot.Interesting facts .
Such a cool place!! Absolutely worth it.
The best museum and our personal tour was really a once in a lifetime experience.Thank you
Wonderful place to visit again and again!!
This is my second visit to MOR and I saw things this time that I missed before. MOR is well worth the trip from Great Falls.
Super nicely done. Great exhibits
Great museum. The dinosaurs, which really are the reason folks come, are very well displayed. The information provided is very informative and a terrific way to learn. Their is information geared towards children, but most of it is towards adults. Which is great! They also surprisingly have one of the best museum gift shops I’ve ever seen.I took the bus from Big Sky and then walked from the stop to here, a few signs and a little bit more friendly towards foot traffic would be nice, but the museum itself is wonderful.
I love dinosaurs, and so does my son, this was such a great museum to see them! It was extra cool getting to see staff cleaning dinosaur bones while we were there too!
I had a very exciting time and loved the planetarium. You have to check it out.
Cool museum. Great variety from dinosaurs to guitars. I didnt have enough time to get through it all.
Absolutely impressed with this museum. Great scope of local history and relevance as youre guided through the contribution Montana and neighboring states have made to better understanding previous eras. Lots of western history and places for kids to play. Staff was friendly and prices were fair.
Very cool exhibits. Well worth the cost of admission.
Wellmade museum, with a lot of interesting stuff. However, it is small!
Due to the new rules my feelings have changed about this place no interactive exhibits no way to keep kids attention so they dont get the factor of learning so you go here pay the entrance fee for your family then you you have to wear a mask wich they dont warn you till you get in the building and you dont have your mask so one star is to much they should have just kept the doors sealed until covid is no longer here.
A must see in Montana. Very precious exhibits.
Great place! Alot of cool.stuff!
Fun! Fun! So much to experience! Didnt get to check out the outside area, but the inside was beautiful. The planetarium was an experience.
Fun and educational treat for the whole family yes they are open for business
A some place. great place to visit i recommend
I hadnt been to the Museum of the Rockies since I was much younger than I am now and, boy, I think ive been missing out. Simply being surrounded by the knowledge, the history, of our state and the Rocky mountain area as a whole, was such a cool experience. Dont forget about the super neat dinosaur skeleton stickers in the giftshop!
I love this Museum. It’s in my backyard but they keep the exhibits interesting so we go a few times a year. Even though I’ve walk through the dinosaur complex a hundred times I still cruise though every time I go. There’s also great western history there. Worth the money and the time.
The school and the museum are good with their archeology.
Great place good dinos
Fun wish there was a shorter wait for planetarium
It was an amazing museum. I know a few reviewers said they were not that impressed with it outside of the dinosaurs and to be fair compared to a lot of other museums most of it was not. The real reason to go though is the dinosaurs. It was truly enchanting seeing all of the fossils, especially the full sized ones. My sister and I have always held some interest in the world of dinosaurs and to see it so vividly brought to life with these enormous skeletal remains was a one of a kind experience. When we rounded the corner into the room displaying the t-rex and the triceratops, my sister almost started crying she was so excited. I would 100 percent recommend it for any dino lovers out there, you wont be disappointed.
Excellent museum. Well laid out with large collection of bones, fossils and replicas of many dinosaurs. Great displays of the ages of dinosaurs from embryo, to egg, hatchling, juvenile...reasonable entry fee and great gift shop staff.
Great educational museum
Great museum. Recommend for all ages.
Great museum! Our kids (4, 3 and 1) all had a great time. The dinosaurs are the well-deserved main attraction but the Explore Yellowstone interactive exhibit has so much to do. We spent most of our time up there. As an aside, if you are going to Yellowstone, Bozeman is a nice place to start or finish your trip. It’s a cute town.
Always a good time.
Greatest dinasour muesum in US. Part of Montana state University. Only one sign on I 90 Did not give exit. It is a fair distance from the Freeway. The docent Lindia was knowledgable and a good speaker. She kept the grand children on track as well as the grandparents.
Very fun and educational.
Awesome museum! Clean, packed full of history, and fair prices. My husband and I absolutely loved the dinosaur exhibit! We’ve never seen anything else like it.
The dinosaur section is excellent and I loved the planetarium too! So nice that its included in the price of admission.
Loved it !! Now back to Texas .
