Worked here ten years ago before my injury with my friend B . He did the sound system, and I did the curtain call. I met alot of nice people here from the city,Government and around the world . When I was here they were planning on changing the sign, Melody glad to see they did!The building has a lot of history ! And its unique inside!

My family had recieved tickets for the Nutcracker through a non-profit program. I brought my 3 children and my niece ages 11, 9, 7 & 1 years old and we all loved it! Staff are so nice and welcoming. They welcomed everyone including my screaming toddler. They do have a concession stand that is cash only. I liked that i didnt need to print my tickets they are able to scan the tickets from your phone. I look forward to many more shows at this theater. Parking wasnt too bad either. We parked on Columbia Rd and walked up to the theater.

Great place. Not a bad seat in the place. Two levels and balconies on side. Built in 1918, with a great history. Needs a few renovations, but with a bit more use from the community, it will surely get the funds it needs! I just went in October 2018 for the first annual short movie festival and it was awesomely curated and hosted!

Came here in a field trip with students. The performance was fabulous but the theater itself looks like nobody cares for it. Like any older building, the heat seems to only have two settings: off or on - with the on setting the temperature equal to the surface of the Sun. So wear many layers while attending.Edit: They seemed to have fixed the thermostat and the facilities here are top notch.

Gorgeous theater. Bueatifull production. Unfortunately the ushers made what would have been an otherwise 5 star experience into a one star experience. As you can see from the photos I was clearly incorrectly seated. And there is a price difference. The ushers insisted I had a mezzanne seat as you can clearly see I didnt. When someone was sitting in my supposed mezzanne seat... Im not sure how it was my seat since my ticket was clearly marked. She told me to sit in the literal worst seat in the mezzanne.. with a giant bar obstructing my view of the stage. As if that wasnt bad enough the usher kept continually shining her flashlight in my eyes during the ballet... I obviously could not see any if the show when the usher shined her light directly on me during the show. Unfortunately the ushers ruined what would have been an otherwise amazing experience. I would love to come back but Im not sure its worth it because of the seating and ushers. Why spend money on a ticket to get a bad seat?

I saw the Nutcracker here recently and it was amazing. The costumes and backdrops were enchanting. The choreography was top notch. The performers gave us a stunning show. The location is convenient. The ushers were friendly and helpful. The theater is beautiful. And people were on the first floor selling art and jewelry and great gift stuff, that might just be for the holiday season.I had a great experience. It couldnt be beat.

A beautiful theater! Saw the nutcracker here which was a good performance. The snack bar/drinks was cash only which I really felt like wasnt advertised enough before entering the theater. It was SO hot in the theater. It was a family friendly show which meant there were lots of children and none of them were quiet, including the ~6 year old girl directly behind me who spent at least a quarter of the show screaming about Disney princesses.

The show was great, aint no stopping that. Majah hype was awesome and there for these 2 stars arent about him! The theaters interior needs some major changes and upgrades. More specifically the spacing with the seating. Seats are way outdated and too close together. Everyone I could see was struggling to sit down, had to keep getting up or if noone was beside them, adjust their legs to the side because of Charlie horses and leg cramping. Im pretty short in comparison, I am 5 5 and my right leg was in pain the whole show. I would definitely see another majah hype show, but not if he is preforming at the strand theater again, sorry.

Old theatre so yoiu must expect tight seats and little leg room. But what the Strand lack in modern decour it makes up for with the new elevator and bathroom spaces. And you cant underate much far a warm and friendly staff does for a place. The Strand is the oldest neighborhood theatre in Dorchester and some aspects remind one of that, but the character of the building is in tact and some updates have been made so I have to believe itll get to full restoration at some point....but be careful what you wish because the ticket prices might too! Right now the Strand is affordable and I for one would like it to remain that way!!

Went to see the play Mommas Boy (10/15/17 @ 3:00pm). Overall, the theater has been well maintained. However, seating was very uncomfortable. Individuals of larger size or taller height will not be able to sit in the seats. At 54, my knees were pressed against the seat in front of me. The Strand Theater staff was completely unorganized and admission into the play was ridiculously chaotic.People were not admitted until after 3:00pm, due to production staff tardiness. Upon entering into the lobby at 3:30pm, there were no physical indicators (e.g. red rope, signage) to guide attendees. So no one knew what line to stand in to have an e-ticket scanned vs a ticket bought at the theater. In the era of They only had one scanner for e-tickets, which resulted in a longer line. You could not distinguish who were ushers, which left you momentarily looking like a lost New York City tourist. When you did find an usher, they were being swarmed by attendees trying to find their seats. Ushers were so overwhelmed and bombarded that it took 20 minutes for us to get help finding our seats. By that time the play had started and 1/3 of people were standing in the aisles still looking for their seats. Many people were frustrated by the lack of coordination and process for our community theater. The Strand Theater Committee should reach out to other venues who have a seamless process for managing admission and crowd control.

Went here to see the Nutcracker last night and had an overall good time. Was a bit late but of course that isnt the fault of the theater. The workers seemed very kind. Didnt visit the bathroom or get anything to eat so I cant rate it on that aspect. Id go back though, just wish I had known there was parking close to it cause taking the T wasnt the best idea especially with cold temperatures and strong winds. Walked from Andrew station which I believe is the closest and its about a mile walk. There are busses but they werent convenient at the time needed them. Overall fun experience though.
