How many bridges are named after you ?? Kate Shelly has two. Named after the local heroine who saved a train from going off a washed out bridge. Personally, I think she caused more train wrecks than she prevented. There is a two and half hour movie about her 15 minute ordeal. Subsequently, Kate’s twin brother Nate died in a train derailment. Scenic place to watch trains rumble by 185 feet above you. I really like this place.

Highest bridge span in Iowa? You can even walk down to the river. It also looks like you can walk across it. If you do, just be aware of the risk.

I had heard this was the highest railroad bridge in Iowa. I took a drive to see it on July 16, 2015. It is a high bridge. Wow. It was rather isolated too. I remember hearing a bird call which I later learned to be the call of the peewee. I live now in NC and peewee are here too. There are some places and times that we always remember and the visit to Kate Shelley High Bridge is one of those for me.

Unique rail bridge spanning the Des Moines river. Just a few miles off of Hwy 30, you drive along a gravel road to the base of the bridge where you can park on the side of the road to take pictures. Well worth seeing. I did notice an echo affect on the newer bridge right next to it, so shout down the bridge columns to see if it works for you.

This is a really spectacular bridge. Please note that the road bridge over the river just north of the railroad bridge is no longer in existence. 200th Street has barricades in place on the west side of the river. On the east side, you can drive right down almost to the river.

A BRIDGES Bridge. This bridge is awesome. It reminds me of going ugly early. A big tough structure. Easy to get to and its really cool to see a 2 mile long train go across her...
