Insane views! These are from the overlook 500 steps away from the actual kings chair. The blue trail to kings chair is by far the hardest!Red to either red-blue connector is significantly easier. The best way to go (IMO, and if you have all day) is the yellow, to the yellow-red, take the red down to red-blue south, and then blue to kings chair!
An awesome, strenuous hike. Take the red/blue connector off the red trail if you want to skip the first major climb. Views are worth the hike!
Moderate to difficult trail with a beautiful view at the end
If you dont mind paying $5 entry for a car with adults into Oak Mountain State Park, the 3.6 mile up and back to the Kings Chair from the North Trail Head is a perfect medium hike. It is especially great for couples, large dogs, or families. Make sure you visit the restroom at the parking lot before you go. Pack water, snacks, or sandwiches and you are good to go! Great panoramic views at the top.
Great hike! Even though it’s around 2 miles to the top, it takes quite a bit of time because of elevation gain. Allow for about 3 hours round trip that includes time spent at the top eating a snack and rehydrating. We crossed lots of small waterfalls due to all the rain this past week. The outcropping of rocks are nice on the way. Some trees have fallen on trail but you can easily shimmy underneath them. The view at the top is incredible. I highly recommend starting on the red trail and using the red/blue crossover to blue as the red is not as steep right away. Enjoy!
Had an awesome time hiking to kings chair on the summit. Its a nice hike.
Went yesterday for the first time. I havent hiked in a while, and my cardio is garbage. Still, I was able to complete the ascent in about 50 minutes, and descent in about 35.Views are amazing, and trail is well-marked. Id highly recommend.
This is one of the best views in Birmingham. But the trail is not well marked. Park at the North Trailhead and take the Blue trail, which goes uphill. It will not mention Kings Chair unless you look at the map. Stay on the main blue trail. Until finally you see the Kings Trail marker, as in the photo. Worth it. #hikeon #hikealabama
Beauty at its finest!!
Beautiful view, serene atmosphere and easy workout for the light hiker.
This is the best Vista point on Oak Mountain. A well marked trail from the Northern Trailhead is the quickest way to it. Its quite a bit of elevation but nothing even a couch potato couldnt do with a few catch-your-breath-breaks. For a bit of a challenge take the detour over Eagels Nest. After having soaked in the view, I highly recommend continuing on a very scenic and almost level Blue Trail to the South Red-Blue Connector to loop back over Red Trail, Red-Yellow Connector, and Yellow trail. About a 2 h loop that includes some of my favorite stretches.
My first ever hike!! I am thankful To my friend Nat!! Started at 0500! Enjoyed the natures view!! The beautiful relaxing sunrise with the fog and the beautiful trees of the hills!
It is not an easy hike, but not the most difficult either. The view was totally worth it. Hikers should be sure to bring lots of water, bug spray, and definitely a good camera. Caution: be careful at the edge as there is not a whole lot of space and a sharp drop from the edge. We will definitely be going back soon.
Wonderful hike to get here. Beautiful trails and views along the way.
Great view.
Great 2 mile hike, AUsome views.
71 degrees and wind blowing, perfect morning to hike to The Kings Chair. Very peaceful and quiet at this beautiful spot.
Amazing hike, 1.75 miles one way. Up hill, can be slightly challenging. Be sure to take the whole day, not because of the hike, rather you will want to spend sometime a top the mountain. Kings chair is best accessed from the North Trailhead where there is parking. Dog friendly trail, breath taking views and a seriously fun afternoon
Beautiful view.
This hike is marked really well and has stunning vistas like the Kings Chair!
Awesome view. 4 mile round trip with approximately 700 feet of elevation gain in 2 miles. Worth the hike!!
Great hike... Just know you will want water and there is alot if up hill climbing.
Will marked trails. Challenging elevation changes.
