The gate is erected in a appropriate place with his name and year.

Cant believe the dummies who give it a 1, 2 or 3 star reviews with comments like its just a gate as in to keep cattle enclosed. Its a piece of art. The design and artwork are well worth taking a look at. One also has to remember this was originally the backside of the campus. The main gate is on North Side. And then lets not forget the history that took place here. From students being sprayed with tear gas by then Governor Regan, the equal rights protests and the national guard with guns.Next time you pass through the gate, stop and take a look at the design and artwork. Then do a bit of historical research to learn whats happened in the shadow of the gate. The world you live in today was greatly influenced by what happened here.

Pretty cool campus to walk around, cute cafes to visit near by

I mean if Stanford tries to attack us we will have no defenses!4 stars because it is a great spot to look into Strawberry creek or out across the beautiful campus that is UC Berkeley.5 stars because someone dressed as Spider man climbed it and sat on one. of the towers during Halloween.

Cool gate, but tends to have club representatives passing out flyers underneath it. If not looking to be bothered, consider taking one of the alternate routes around it.

Not a good place to walk through if you want to go fast. Its super crowded and I dont plan on joining a Christian fellowship today either.

Iconic gate. I dont know the history behind it, but walking through it gives you the experience that youre entering the world of UC Berkeley.

The most lively place at the university of California Berkeley

Its just a gate, students flee from the crowds flyering in Sproul through it only to be stopped by a mass of tourists taking their mandated Instagram photos in front of it.

What the University of Carlifornia must consider doing is to reconstruct the Sather Gate into a more notable landmark. It was too small for my liking though

Its a gate. Its really not that exciting. Plus youre very likely to get harassed with flyers by the organizations tabling on Sproul. Also if youre a tourist trying to take pictures in front of it, there are usually hordes of students trying to walk through it at all times to get to class or go home.

Great spot for pictures!Biking or skateboarding in this area is not allowed, so watch out for university police if you do happen to ride through this area.

I never get tired of walking to class under this beautiful gate. If you look closely youll notice that the gate actually features some nudity lol.

A beautifully crafted gate from 1909, ironically with a typo cut in stone: the Roman numerals used are the naïve-looking DCCCC and VIIII instead of CM and IX.
