This is one of the worst preserves in Nassau County. If youre looking for forest, there is a bike path next to the Wantagh State Parkway between Jerusalem Ave and Sunrise Highway that is infinitely better. So is the Massapequa Preserve. This is a tangled, overgrown mess, with garbage everywhere. The forest itself is not that old or interesting either. The parks I cited actually have some old growth, too (which has never been logged).
I found this preserve to be overgrown and full of garbage. It’s not kept, there’s graffiti all over the trees, evidence of open fires and drinking (which is prohibited). Not family friendly because there’s broken glass.
Very nice park. Some of the trails were not clear of debris or marked in winter. Would recommend.
Its unfortunate that there isnt much maintenance. Yes, its nature, but some TLC can still be had while also maintaining its nature habitat. I may give it a try another time; it was just a bit too isolated and unkept that I felt uneasy being solo.
It’s looks cool until you’re five minutes in and someone is living there...
Small, nice, but only one trail
Being out in nature is always good, but beware trails are very rough.
Yes, the preserve is not maintained. There is no money for that. Sorry. But if you are truly interest in seeing nature without mans intrusion, this place is as close as it gets here in Nassau county.
I really liked the brilliant views and gorgeous wildlife
It starts off looking like a Secret Garden but is not maintained at all. Trees have fallen throughout, the paths arent good and it is spooky.
Beautiful this time of year.
