A nice museum, but a bit dry. All exhibits are text heavy. Beautiful location.

Wonderful museum with interesting displays and very friendly docents. A great way to learn about the early history of the area. Would definitely recommend.

This was being renovated when I was there. Still provides some interesting history of this region. Need to get back and see the finished product. NOTE: This is located adjacent to the golf course on the Parris Island Recruit Depot. Also an interesting museum on base.

Excellent museum!!! 50 years before Jamestown, French and Spanish were here. The focus on the Civil War has buried SCs major roll in the Revolutionary War - check it out!

A rather interesting review of Spanish history north of Florida, that many my not be aware of.

Well done displays of local history, with a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Was expecting original artifacts, but alas, none to be found.

This bit of American history is fascinating, but usually left out when we discuss the first european settlers. We learned a lot, had a great guide and a wonderful time.

Fairly new museum. Interesting displays explaining the Spanish settlement that pre-dated the English settlements further north. Cost $10.

Exhibits were up to date, engaging and clearly communicated the history of the area which is quite notable. The models of the early forts and homes were very detailed and informative. The staff were all very knowledgeable and able to add to the experience based on your level of interest. Great value for the money and well worth the time.

Im very disappointed in this because I went to the museum today for a class extra credit grade, excited to actually get out of the dorm and see a beautiful museum. It says online that its open from 1-4pm today, but when we drove 32 minutes and arrived, it said it was closed. I think its awful that the hours were not shows and Im very upset about this. I was looking forward to the beautiful, high-rated exhibits that have been posted about.

History you didnt know about but should. Very interesting. Plan on 2 hours if you like area history. One hour if you dont, but you should give it a look.

Partially my fault for expecting artifacts but there were none except some arrowheads. This is suitable for children but of little interest otherwise.

A $10 fee to see beautiful displays about early Spanish settlement on Parris Island. If what you expect is to see a short film about Spanish history in the Beaufort area thats long on sincerity and enthusiasm, to visit a handsome one-room exhibit hall with very well-done narrative boards describing the competition among the French and Spanish to make claims and permanent settlements in the New World--well, you wont be disappointed.We loved the tiny zut alors! type comments from the sailors aboard ships pictured crossing the Atlantic.It wouldve been helpful to have had one display with a timeline that just included Santa Elenas history, year by year, as its a little complicated to keep that in mind while moving from board to board and following the efforts of multiple ships from multiple countries expeditions over multiple years to multiple locations.An A+ for effort, professionalism, and enthusiasm.What I missed was artifacts or items or displays that brought Santa Elana to life, that drew me in.The History Center is located in a former government building (complete with jail cells you can enter!). The kid-focused activities on the first floor are a nice touch, and the gift shop has some nice stuff.Weve been once--unfortunately, our expectations were high, and there isnt enough there to draw us back again.

Over priced for the experience... Nice to learn some more of our early history, would have been nicer to have more exhibits and some kid friendly/interactive exhibits since the children have to pay.
