The Apollo 11 movie was inspirational. My daughter loves the Egyptian exhibition. Good restaurants near by.Excellent activity for the whole family .

This place has a little bit of everything. They have a mummy exhibit. They have two different age level childrens Interactive Science museums. They have the laser light shows. And they have rotating art exhibits.
The family took advantage of the Museum being free the first sunday of each month. So we toured the whole thing and had a blast. My 8 year old couldve enjoyed it all day long. My 4 and 6 year olds really like the space exhibits and seeing the MUMMY in egypt exhibit! They didnt allow pics of the mummy sorry. But this not the only free thing downtown Baton Rouge. In feburary we saw USS Kidd free of charge as well. Next month we might check out old state capital. ( not sure how 4 y.o. will enjoy that one)
I grew up with the LASM as THE museum school field trips went to. Their childrens discovery area was AMAZING! Ill never forget the pulleys and ropes that you could lift yourself up with...those are gone. I remember the satellite dish-looking echo communication devices being farther apart and even more impressive for it. Theyre not very far any more. I remember fossil stations that made me feel so smart and accomplished. Those are gone too. The planetarium is still pretty great! They show wonderful videos and documentaries that are very informative! I deeply miss the meaningful and physically visual interactions kids used to get from the full discovery area. Something they get a mere FRACTION of at the new, reduced area.
This is an entertaining spot to visit. The facility is impeccable as were the employees. Its right smack in the middle of things so you can reach just about everything that you may want in the downtown area. I guess my favorite was the skull of a triceratops which is easily viewable to provide one with the magnitude in size and power this beast once had.
Fantastic museum and place to spend an entire day. Lots of reading on the first floor. The second floor has a fantastic, big, colorful exhibit on the different cultures and customs of the different regions of Louisiana. Am anxious to return soon!!!
I went here today on a field trip with my first grade child. The staff was so welcoming and organized from the beginning. They were ready and waiting for us. More than one school showed up for a field trip on the same day. But we were never crowded or rushed through because they split us up and smaller group good. The lady who narrated the planetarium was incredible. She was so great with the kids. Children were everywhere and the staff was always patient and kind. The children learned so much while they were there... My son is especially interested in space and dinosaurs so he was thrilled. Just cant say how impressed I was because the staff was incredible. I even told them several times how great they were. Best school field trip Ive been to in a while.
Went with a 4th grade field trip and it was insightful, organized, and educational...but also fun for the kids AND parents. Great facility and staff.
Great place for kids and the hands on learning is enjoyable for them. The place is a bit small, so it doesn’t take much time to cover it all, even with a movie. Staff are friendly and though the gift shop is small, there’s still a decent bit of things for kids to enjoy.
They told us we were not allowed to take pictures throughout more than half the museum. They wouldnt let me n the movie with my baby. The only interesting thing was the mummy. I feel as if Ive wasted $40. Lame!
Wonderful staff thats really good with Children. Great place to go. Amazing experience. Definitely will take my kidds back.
Amazing and very interesting visit. Cant wait to visit again.
This is a wonderful place to visit and work. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and is dedicated to create opportunities for children to learn. I especially love bringing my nephew and niece to the two hands-on activity rooms and they both get so excited about being able to explore and play there! This museum offers a great space for school groups to tour and engage in educational classes and activities as well!
Amazing, especially if you watch for the free admission days
I loved it! Saw the Apollo 11 movie. My only complaints are that one of the employees seemed drunk (reeked of alcohol and acted it), and that the endangered/extinct animals exhibit will be going away in October.
Certainly worth the time we spent here
Great art and great exhibition of music also.
Not a big museum but nice
If been here many of times and I think its a great way to get educated on things we need to know and want to know.
There were some cool elements, like the charcoal drawings currently on display. The planetarium, which we were not even planning on going in was the best part. Really cool interactive pieces. If I had done a little more research and realized it was mainly for children (there is a cool kids zone and some other interactive things that, while adults could definitely take part in, it is designed for kids), I probably would have crossed it of our list. And considering it had the highest entrance fee ($9) of anything we did, I definitely would recommend seeing one of the other art museums instead. I was also surprised at how small it is. We walked through it in less than an hour. If you have kids, then maybe check it out. Otherwise, time and money could be spent better elsewhere.
Great place for the entire family
Must go, love the atmosphere. Peaceful. Gives you a chance to stop and just be grateful. Such a great place for kids...very cool. Worth the membership. I would definitely come again. Tranquillity helps to ground you and appreciate life
Great place to bring your kids year round.
The whole family loved it. The information is unbelievable and amazing. There are scheduled films and documentaries and the set up of the theater is set up very unique. Also, there are experiments that you can sign up for free to do with you kids to have hands on learning. A Must See!
Planetarium and Art exhibits are excellent.
My little girls loved the LASM they are 5 and 8 years old.they enjoyed the discovery room. mom come see this Mom come see this whatch what I can do with this listen to the sound this makes when i do this The Hands on creating art Room: Mom look what i made for you out of thisLooking at all the didfferent things through a childs eyes makes me happy. We had a great time we didnt compare this museum to any other because its special in its own way.Thank you LASM for a fun filled day with my 2 adopted little girls. MOMMY
Great event venue
The museum is very nice, and very clean. The staff are all kind and nice to the children. The only reason Im giving this 2 stars is that the city of Baton Rouge put no thought into parking for this facility. In order to get there I drove around for almost 30 minutes looking for parking. Driving around looking for parking with a careful of young children is not fun. I came very close to finding an alternate outing. Once parked we had two very busy roads to cross. My 4 year old granddaughter witnessed a tractor trailer rig coming within 2 seconds of crashing into the rear of a car that suddenly turned left in the intersection of the pedestrian crossing. The driver then went into a cursing rage with the windows rolled down. Not exactly the wholesome outing I was seeking.I feel certain many do find alternatives for the children, and this is a substantial loss to this amazing museum. This is not New York city folks, we all have cars.In addition, I think the prices are too high for the children. Of course, if more people came perhaps they could lower the price.
They had everything, celestial
Curator, you need to learn some good manners and return a call when someone leaves a message for you. Perhaps you feel that you are too good to do so!
While my children enjoyed this museum, I was not impressed by the staff members at all. With the exception of the sweet lady working in the Discovery Center, no other staff member greeted me or my children.
My son had a balst
Nice museum place
We love LASM! The childrens area is fun, clean and Ms. Pauline is the BEST! Shes always friendly, she takes the time to know the kids and parents who visit, and she keeps the area safe and organized. I highly recommend it, especially if you have small children.
Great staff very informative long live Porky SB13
Something for all ages. Knowledgeable docents. Changing exhibits and hands-on activities for children.
Great for kids!
From fine art to an Egyptian mummy to a childrens play/learn area, a really nice museum
Great place!
Nice place, clean facility, friendly staff, varied and educational displays and activities. Highly recommend!
Very boring. Nothing about this place was exciting. Pricey for barely nothing.
Extremely boring. The only upsides are the temporary exhibits that can be ok. Dont test your luck though. The gift shop also sucks
Planetarium is state of the art. Museum has a few things to enjoy. Could use more content but good enough for young and old alike.
This is a favorite spot of our family in Baton Rouge! Any day you go you will be exposed to a large exhibit of artists work and hands on learning about the art (ex. how to draw a self portrait or learning perspective making a city scape). I enjoy these activities as much as the kids. They have a great hands on science room that makes learning fun. On the weekends they have science labs sponsored by BASF for kids 6 and older, the teachers are energetic and helpful. These alone are worth admission if you dont have a membership. The next room that my kids have to go in every time we are at LASM is the play room, my older kids even love this room because they have a separate crafting room inside it!! All the glue, fabric scraps, beads, crafty-messy goodness that you can leave there!! We spend around 2 hours on average when we go but can easily stay longer especially if we do an Imax.
It was the best! Wonderful activities for all ages not one dull moment!
Great place to get Louisiana in its entirety. If youve been to old state Capitol then a lot of history would be repetitive. But there are a lot of added attractions to this place.
Great place to bring the kids. I used to have a blast here on school trips when i was younger
Litty
Took my sons boy scout troop. We had a great time there
Had a great time with the kiddos here.
So many interesting things to see
Awesome!
Great Museum!!!
Nice
It told us about a lot of history. In the planetarium it is almost as if your actually in the world they are projecting
Closing at 3 pm is inadequate
Great place to take the kids
Love this place great exhibits !
Wonderfully fun learning
Its pretty cool!
Never been planning on going.
The exhibits were great!
