Love the place! Elegant, educational, and perfect for engaging, learning, just being.I went there to hear Mae Jemison. It was my first time. What an awesome facility! Love the speaker series and will be attending again another time. More libraries should do this. Totally enjoyed this event.

A wonderful art deco library with a main hall resembling the Easton train station. It is definitely worth the visit and even study/work there since it is very beautiful and pushes you to read and concentrate.

This is usually a good library. Avoid if they have a city-badged videographer there taking video of patrons, as they did on one of my visits. Your reading is your business.

First time here and I really enjoyed it. Very calming and thrilling to walk among so many books. I got a library card the same day as visiting. All you need is an ID. There is a limit of two books on your first check out but otherwise youre good to go!

This library is simply incredible. It is open to all, whether a Baltimore City resident or not. The staff is truly knowledgeable, and they are always happy to help with any request. They will even go back to the old collections and pull something out for you. They have a wide variety of programs, including educational programs and lectures. And if they dont have what you are looking for, they can order it from another library and have it brought in for you. The library is thoughtfully divided into sections, such as the Business, Science and Technology section. The building itself is also pretty spectacular. Enjoy!

Beautiful building, lovingly restored. However, as with so many things in the public sphere of Baltimore, there seems to be an almost willing surrender to the urban decay and squalor that keeps this city from being better than its reputation as the armpit of the middle-Atlantic/Northeast U.S. Another reviewer described it as a very large homeless shelter, and this is indeed Enoch Pratt Free Librarys atmosphere. Homeless-seeming people park themselves at tables in the reading rooms, converse loudly about things having nothing to do with reading or research, play audible videos and music on radios, or sit with nothing in front of them for hours, as if slowly simmering in hot oil, glaring at other visitors as if youre invading their home turf, and occasionally hurl epithets randomly into the air. Librarians sit nearby, making absolutely no effort to maintain a library reading-room atmosphere - no doubt to avoid confrontation and make the atmosphere even worse. I dont know the solution, because homeless people should be welcome in public facilities without hesitation - as long as theyre using the facilities for their intended purpose. But if it werent for the library actually closing every night, people would be pitching tents in here and chasing away anyone wanting to actually read or do research. Baltimore needs a safe place for homeless people to hang out during the day, but using the Public Library for this precludes it being used for its intended purpose, and maintaining a huge, expensive facility is a waste of taxpayer money unless it is being used for its intended purpose. Libraries are for reading, study and research, they are not community refuges for people with no place else to go.

Great library and resources staff is helpful . I go here when I have nothing to do and get out the house, would give 4 or 5 stars until today because I don’t like being followed by the security/police officers/gang members and being told I couldn’t bite into my apple fritter, which I understand the no eating policy, but not to throw anyone under the bus but if we’re gonna be rule enforcers, that should also go for the loud talking students/people when they’re are people clearly studying or reading.

Although this library is touted by locals as a wonder of architecture and design, all of this supposed glory has been buried beneath a massive restoration project which is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2019. Having peered into the construction areas, I do not believe that the beauty of the finished product will rival that of the centerpiece libraries of the Boston or New York public library systems. That said, it is, of course, a library first and foremost and I imagine that it serves this purpose admirably well, from what I observed. There is a large childrens room, but it is not suited to childrens needs or interests. Management would do well to consider renovating this section of the library next.

Awesome library!!! The immense number of titles available on the shelves, is doubled or tripled by the number in the stacks. Rivaled only by world-class institutions such as NYPL. The electronic and online collection is brilliant! Edit: since the massive renovation, they have removed almost all recycle bins except two that are behind a private inaccessible area, unused, under a counter. Im not sure why they did this, but it seems unlike them to be so irresponsible.

I love going here to use the free computers. They have a computer lab. It is suggested that you make an appointment to use them. If you dont and one is not available in the computer lab, they have computers available on the third floor for you to use. You can also print out a few free items from the computer and send it to the printer located in computer lab. They also have a copier for you to use. I used the one located in the African-American Studies Section. It was ten cent a copy.#howdidyoureact

One of Baltimores great resources. With a history of offering to loan books free of charge to everyone regardless of race during the time when slavery was still legal in this country, Enoch Pratt gave us potential for education. May it last many more hundreds of years.

I am new to Baltimore and checked out several books and returned them all at once. They lost them ALL! They gave me credit for 2 books but now they want me to pay for the other books . And I returned them. The staff have been all very rude. Its, in my experience, the worst library in the United States. Do not drop off books in drop boxes or they will try to charge you saying you didnt return them!

Traveling and seeing libraries in varies of states, this one was ok. Yes there are a lot of homeless people in there but the books and documents are resourceful, the staff is helpful (except one) and the structure of the building is beautiful. If you are visiting the city of Baltimore you must come and see for yourself.
