A beautiful place for a walk/hike. The park has two parts, the park out front and the nature preserve in the back. The park portion is suitable for all ages with stone paved paths, water features, and peacocks. The peacocks dont seem to pay much attention to the people who visit the park which is fine by me. I honestly would have found it freaky if they swarmed me or something. The Nature Preserve in back is, in my opinion, the real gem of this park. The paths are not too rigorous and it makes for a nice hike. However, the trails in the nature preserve section often have roots cutting across the walkways. There are also with stairs in some places with no alternative paths and some of the bridges over the creek are precarious. In other words, the nature preserve section is not suitable for all ages. Those with unsure footing or those who are young enough to be in a stroller are probably best off avoiding this area. I personally found the nature preserve to be most enjoyable, but it is not for everyone due to limited accessibility.
I stop by here every time I visit Austin. It is amazing to see these animal walking around this property. In the last year or so they finished installing a bunch of little ponds, and they are very tranquil to listen to.
Wonderful place for a outing (but leave the dogs at home- not allowed). Parking is free! Beautiful peacocks meander freely around this lovely property. The gardens and ponds invite you to stroll leisurely and take in the beauty. Located at the foot of Mount Bonnell, you can easily take in both Mayfield Park and Covert Park in the same day.
This one of my favorite places in Austin that I never get tired of visiting! Ofcourse the main attraction is peacocks that will let you get close enough to take selfies. The old architecture is breathtaking along with the pools of water, and brick tower. But there’s a few hidden gems if you exit the gate opposite from the entrance, and start on the nature trail... it’s easy to lose an hour or two wandering around back there. The majority of the trail is shaded by trees. There’s a few boulders/cliffs to shimmy over and down depending on which trail you take. And some streams you’ll need to jump from rock to rock to cross and stay dry. If you go all the way to the back there’s a beautiful view looking over the water.
A great trail for inexperienced hikers appropriate for small children that offers a brief viewing and history of the different species of plants that are being preserved in the area. There are a few trails to cover so you may want to devote at least an hour of your day to see it all.Theres also an opportunity to see the peacocks roaming around if youre lucky. It doesnt cost anything to enter and parking is available inside the location although be prepared to potentially park out on W 35th if you come at peak times.
Sad I did not experience the peacocks, but the scenery was like no other. If a person is not careful YOU WILL GET LOST so make sure to pay attention where you step, don’t wear tight clothes and make sure you comfortable because you will be using them leg muscles.
Mayfield Park was a beautiful place to visit and see some incredible peacocks that one doesnt often get to see! I loved going for a hike on the trails and then finishing up my time there by wandering around the grounds and admiring the gorgeous gardens and ponds and peacocks. It was truly a refreshing and unique experience.
Nice trails. Free roaming peacocks.Nice little park
The Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve is a very beautiful park to visit. There are a few small trails in the back right part of the park that loop around the parking lot making it very difficult to get lost. The garden was also very lovely the only complaint I have would be that the flowers were not labeled by their name rather by the volunteers names so I had no idea what type of flowers I was looking at. There was also a coipond that had many fish in it and a few peacocks that were roaming around. There were a lot of great places for a photo opportunity. In addition for the trails I would recommend comfortable shoes because it can get rocky at some points.
The gardens are very pretty, especially with the presence of peacocks. Please be sure to respect them
This place was absolutely breathtaking. I felt so in tune with the atmosphere around me. The peacocks were stunning. Thank you for this wonderful experience. It was the perfect send off back to Michigan.
Nice quiet spot to get away from the city. Is well designed and has a good number of photo worth locations even in the small area that it is.Loved its simplicity and accessibility. Was really nice to see peacocks strutting around showing their awesome feathers. The peacocks were docile but would not recommend petting/touching them as they are not trained to interact with people. One can spend a hour or two here and enjoy the sights and sounds.
This was a really neat place. There were a ton of peacocks, fish, turtles, birds. It was very relaxing and quiet. When we went there really wasn’t many people. It was a must visit! I’d recommend it!
Love this place. Just a nice little slice of nature and some peacocks.
Nice to see the lake and the little trail wasnt too bad to walk and seeing the peacocks foam free is nice also
Where can u see peacocks running around after you spend some time at an overlook of the Colorado river and rich of Austin? Here of course, good for a short stop but it was late so part of park was closed. Maybe better when its done and open completely.
Nice place for family.
Not a top of the line park. It deserves three stars because of the peacocks and the accessibility. Other than that, the park was mellow.
The pools are serene, with trails that are rough and very natural feeling. The rock formations are great to climb on and around, and of course the peacocks are worth seeing as well. If youre looking for a fun afternoon, this will help you kill a few hours.
I didnt go on the hike, but the nature area, while small, was pretty. One of the areas was where people could rent out there own patches of soil and have a little garden, and unfortunately, most of the patches were not well-kept. The rest of the garden was pretty, and the flowers were very vibrant. The ponds were rather green, and Im not sure if it was natural or healthy for the few fish we saw. The peacocks were pretty, although mainly sitting up on the trees. A very nice place to have a little photoshoot or take some aesthetic photos.
Such a fun date spot! The peacocks are amazing, and the grounds are kept up so nicely. This would be a gorgeous venue for a wedding or party! This spot is truly magical!
Beautiful location with trails that lead to the river, an amazing garden and majestic peacocks. You can get a nice view of them and pretty close. Did you know peacocks can get up into trees?
Pretty cool place to get up close to peacocks that just roam around freely in their area of feeding. Good place to take the kids, since there is a small hiking trail that goes to a lake view.No dogs allowed.
This space - a short drive from either North or Central Austin - is perfect to unwind and reconnect with Nature. It seems miles away from the city, perhaps because once you start to hike or wander no tract homes or businesses are in view. The Koi ponds and peacocks add a touch of the eccentric and tranquil. A great place for kids too! Plus, its so close to the eateries in Hyde Park, should you want a bite to eat before or after.
Beautiful flowers this time of the year and Pretty easy relaxing trails.
Lots of friendly Peacocks. Neat and well maintained natural preserve. They do not have any entry fee as well.
Great park. Youll find several easy walking trails, plenty of Peacocks, and nice gardens. The only downside is that the public restrooms are port-a-pottys that are not kept very clean.
Its one of the most peaceful Beautiful places I have been to in Austin. A true treasure. Good for hiking, walking, relaxing, reading. The Art walk is profound and inspiring.
Pretty cool trails that you can get right next to the river on. Saw some huge bass. The peacocks in the garden like to be talked to and whistled at. Even a humming bird there today.
Beautiful place to escape to, sit and watch the birds, read a book by the pond, or teach your kids about peacocks. I love this park, I take the kids allot.
What a nice little spot near the Austin River. Enjoy the serene, beautiful gardens, and walk with the peacocks.
After two weeks of rain sun shining bright made the noon walk through the park very pleasant, the colors were vibrant, butterflies prancing and bees busy. Then on to the Mayfield House gardens, feel the tranquility and peace when strolling through the water gardens and the flower beds of variety and color.Get away from all the business and take a moment for yourself, meditate and be thankful of the life you have in Austin TX.
Loved it! The trails could have been marked a bit better as some how we went off trail. I also really wish people would pick up their trash this was such a great place to have people leave their trash was sad. There is several trails and rest stops along the way. I would definitely go back, maybe in the spring when the flowers are blooming.
Absolutely amazing! I highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys the outdoors and animals. There are amazingly scenic trails and a beautiful stream running through, weaving in and out and not to mention the lake runs down the edge of the park. There are picnic tables and LOTS OF SHADE, perfect for warm days. The peacocks are gorgeous and highly active, not to mention used to human interaction. Please be kind and dont feed the animals or leave a mess this place is beautiful.
Its a must go place. Small park but very beautiful. I would suggest to visit early morning for better experience.
2nd favorite place in Austin! Only saw 1 peacock though thought that strange.
Great little park with awesome wildlife - like peacocks hanging about, rustic trails and gorgeous old and interesting trees. Local treasure not far from Austin neighborhoods.
Great park, free, easy access with beautiful live peacocks roaming around. They also copy fish ponds and other small animals.
Nice park. Did not have the time for the trails. Peacocks and fish in the small ponds. Not crowded at all at 4 pm on a weekday in January.
This is a quaint historic & scenic property located next to the Laguna Gloria Art School & Mt.Bonnell. Because of its location close to the lake, the foliage is very lush and green, making the gardens on this property a proper wonderland! The resident peacocks that strut around are a favorite of all our guests who come to visit, and the multiple ponds don some beautiful lotus & lily blossoms. Many different variegated plants catch the eye as you continue to stroll around the backside of the property along with a plethora of dragon & butterflies.Check out the nature trail adjacent for added exercise & adventure. This will remain apart of our Austin outdoor day tour when we have visitors.
The best time of year to visit this park is definitely in the spring since the garden has gorgeous flowers in bloom. That said, while the park grounds were undergoing some restoration and thus looked a little sad compared with their typical state (including a couple of the fish in the pond that Im pretty sure were dead), the peacocks still seemed happy to roam the grounds and roost in the trees, and the preserve trail was gorgeous with the tail end of fall leaves adding bright red and orange here and there. I can only imagine what the park looked like a few weeks ago, and if I manage to visit next fall Ill bet that will turn out to be my other favorite time of year to visit.
When I lived in the area this was one of my favorite places to visit. The tranquility, the peacefulness, the ponds with the koi fish, and all of the flowers make this a place that you can just sit and stay for hours. The peacocks are in the trees theyre on the house theyre on the grounds and some of them can be quite friendly and come right up to you. its a great place to take kids its a great place to just walk around and take pictures of flowers. I have several pictures of the flowers and peacocks that Ive taken over the years and Ive given them as gifts and people treasure them.
Just the cutest little hiking trail. Oh and peacocks!! So cool.
Beautiful place. Texas is growing on me!
Beautiful park, trail, nice shaded area. Great for all ages. No dogs allowed.
IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE!! It’s so gorgeous and the peacocks there. We did a little hike and took a whole bunch of pictures. Would love to come back here next time I’m in Austin.
What a great park. Took my nephew there and he loved exploring, checking out the coi pond, beautiful plants and especially the gorgeous peacocks!!!
Cool little gem with nice trails. Much prettier in the spring. Worth checking out especially if youre heading to Mount Bonnell.
This is a little piece of magic hiding inside Austin’s city. It’s close to Mt. Bonnell and the first thing that I found was peacocks roaming as they please! Look for them around the house, by the many ponds filled with fish, turtles, and the occasional froggie, and even up in the trees! There’s a charming little tower in the corner that looks straight out of a fairy tale. After you see the peacocks, go down the trails that take you to quiet places of solitude by the waters, with hidden benches to enjoy the views. Only word of caution: just a port o potty for facilities if you have little ones. Other than that, be prepared to be enchanted here.
We went here instead of Zilker because they were having a paid event. It was very much worth it. Theres peacocks, koi fish, and turtles. There is s pretty trail and beautiful garden area near the Mayfield cottage. Would definitely picnic here again.
This park is absolutely amazing. Austin is really hot in summers. And mount Bonell is even hotter. So when I came here after going to mount Bonell, I felt like I had been saved from that heat. The peacocks add the beauty to this place. Additionally, lake access on the trails provide a cool place to sit and relax as well. Its a natural park, that provides nature.
Love taking our family here for hikes. The trails are beautiful and secluded, as well as easy to traverse. Lots of different trails and diverse scenery. One of our favorite short hiking areas in Austin.
We saw the peacocks and several males opened their tail feathers for a gorgeous display! Nice walking area and scenery, would be great for photoshoots.
It was so beautiful and amazing I would so go back there again
Still a beautiful park, but it was CLOSED when we came by 7/22/20. Online info. needs to be updated.
Cute place, free street parking. Saw a few peacocks roaming around. It’s a quiet and beautiful place with a trail.
A pleasant place to hangout with family after visiting the mount Bonnell . If you wanna peacocks lively this is the place to stop by.
Great place to go with the family or solo. The peacocks are beautiful and very at ease with people nearby. Free to park, free to roam around. Be sure to open the mailbox by the gate on your way in or out (by the house) and sign the Guest Book!
It’s nice and the peacocks never fail to make my day. If it weren’t so hot, I’d consider coming here to meditate!
My life is accomplished after getting to see so many beautiful peacocks and peahens from such a short distance. And who knew peacocks sit on tree branches! A must go, at least once. The park is free and not so very crowded. You can spend 30 minutes and leave with content eyes!
This is a very beautiful and peaceful park. We just really love it, and any chance we have to go or take friends with us for an outdoor activity we aleays keep this park in mind.
Quaint water gardens and flowers beds around the main house where the peacocks roam. A couple of trails extend toward the creek bed or down a steep pathway to the lake with a lookout. Free! Wear good shoes for the rocky terrain. Keep in mind there is not a public bathroom available, just a port-a- potty near the parking lot. Bit of a safety concern toward the back of the property if you have preschoolers or toddlers as the wall is extremely low near the cliff. Not stroller friendly, out Bob handled it OK but would not make it on the trails.
One of a kind!!! I’ve been coming to Mayfield Park since I was a child, and now I get to share it with my own. It truly is a wonderful place full of opportunities to explore. Where else can you see peacocks roaming around freely and possibly get lucky and see some baby chicks. You can also check out the ponds and find a frog poking its head out between the lily pads and water flowers. If you want to bring lunch, there are picnic tables where you can sit next to the rock wall under the shade of the oaks.Don’t forget to take the easy trail down behind the property to the water. You can depart from either end of the parking lot. The trail is gently sloping down to the lake through some TX vegetation and is surprisingly shady on a hot summer day. There is a map if you are concerned, but you’d be hard pressed to get lost since it’s a looping trail. If you’re up for a longer journey the trail connects with neighboring Laguna Gloria. Enjoy.
Went in the off season so we didnt go on many trails. Did get to see plenty of peacocks at the Mayfield House however, which is very cool grounds.
Beautiful experience. The lake was so calm and peaceful and the trails were very well kept.
PERFECTLY AND NATURAL AND BEAUTIFUL.THE PEOPLE NEED SEE THAT!!!. THANKS SO MUCH.
Great place! Nice birds!
Great park to take a walk and enjoy the gardens, ponds, and peacocks. The spring is the best time to visit while all of the flowers are in bloom.
Peacocks galore and easily walkable trails with some fun stream crossings.
Love the peacocks walking around! Peaceful and beautiful walk.
Absolutely beautiful. How have I lived in Austin this long and not known this place was here? Took my family who was visiting and even in December was still neat to walk around and see the gardens. I can imagine how lush it is in the spring.
Great free place to visit....pretty and relaxing...can get very busy...got to watch out for a de ent place to park
Trails well marked and maintained. Peacocks were out and showing off.
A great park in the neighborhood. The peacocks are so friendly!
Peacocks. Very nice walk. Not much to it just a nice park.
Beautiful park absolutely stunning. Short but very enjoyable trails. The peacocks are beautiful and not afraid or aggressive. However the port-a-potty was very dirty like it had been rolled over. But the sticker said it was just cleaned. Gross
Everyone talks about the peacocks but doesn’t mention the gorgeous trees! Takes about an hour if you walk slow.
It still under maintance but very much improved compared to 10years ago when I first visited. They have a beautiful garden, flowers, and koi fishes.
Peaceful place for a stroll through the woods and by the river. Nice peacocks and flowers.
It’s a beautiful and peaceful place, I definitely recommend you visit with family or friends, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it and have an amazing adventure.
Nice park with beautiful peacocks.
Cool trail with lots to see. A couple of creeks, lots of peacocks and peahens, turtles, and koi fish in the ponds. We had a great time here!
Love all the peacocks and peahens here! Great Venue for photoshoots
Nice shaded trails that are great for a quick hike. The peacocks are an added bonus that my kids enjoy! The only downfall is the only restrooms are porta-potties.
Great park to walk thru and see the wildlife and gardens
I love the peacocks and gardens, must go if you are visiting Austin. It’s a stone’s throw from Mount Bonnell and Laguna Gloria.
Amazing place to take your family. The peacocks are everywhere.
Who love peacocks? At Mayfield park and nature reserve you can find a lot!
Love this trail. If you like to hike in a place with lots of shade, this is a perfect place. As you can see the trail is not that long but it is nice. We saw a couple of peacocks when we enter the park. I will definitely go again.
Mayfield Park is one the Austins treasures with gorgeous setting and outstanding peacocks roaming all over the grounds.
Awesome place and as always its nice to be there ..
Lover this place!! So Beautiful and the peacocks do NOT disappoint. Take a lol picnic food and enjoy yourselves.
Favorite place in Austin! Free roaming peacocks, beautiful landscaping and ponds, great hiking trails. Its a must!
