The park is beautiful. Especially around the dam. Good place for boating and swimming . We went in winter so could not get in the water. It is a perfect picnic spot for the entire family. There are trial walks are fun to go out with friends and family.
Mansfield Dam Park is one of my favorite places to go in the summer. Access to the Dam is limited to employees. There is no public access, but you can still get a great view of it from the overlook; as you can see in these photos. There are plenty of places to explore by shore or if youre interested in getting a better look at the Dam; you can launch your boat there as well. Take the kids. Have a picnic. You cant go wrong!
Clear water, and well made boat ramps. its been 10 years or so, but i still recall the lake was a few hundred feet low but the ramps were still good.
Nice place for day outing. Great for boating, kayaking, water biking if you are into it. You can do a picnic and swimming too. The place got free grills for BBQ. Bring your own fuel for the grills. Entry fee is $10 or $15 per vehicle. Trailer is additional $5. People over 62 can get a free pass for their vehicle. Open till 9 pm.
Not FREE! I rode all the way here on my bike and when i finally got there, i found out it wasnt free! $3(someone said they rose it to $5 now)for walking in. I was on my bike, so of course i didnt bring money. I just wanted to stop by real quick to see it, have a quick lunch and leave, so there was no way i was going to pay anyway! I just walked in with my bike and no one seemed to care, but i wont ever go back! Really disappointing. It should be free if you are just walking in, or pay per hour or something. Ridiculous.
Great park, very big space, small playground, more developed & appropriate for young children & dogs, great swimming. Please clean up after yourselves, I had to throw away 2 dirty diapers, just laying around...really...?Aluminum cans, cigarette filters, & bunch of other litter. Please do not smoke cigarettes in the park, nobody wants cancer & it is certainly not healthy for the children to breathe. Dogs are allowed. There is an entrance fee, but seniors get free admission. Thank you for not fishing/terrorizing the poor fish, or leaving fishing gear pollution everywhere, I see those fake rubber fishing lures left all over the rocks, birds & animals try to eat those things.
This park is beautiful and big!!!! Well taken care of, plenty of BBQ pits and seating, plenty of open parking. It has a boat ramp! A ramp to go swimming, it also has life jackets that children can use. It has restrooms and fountains to wash your hands. ! Plenty of area to walk around. The fee to get in is pretty pricey to me, $10 but if you wanna spend the whole day its worth it!
I’m not really sure why there’s even a place to leave reviews for the Mansfield Dam Park because it’s not really accommodating at all there’s just a couple of trash bins and picnic tables where is back in the day used to be able to walk across the dam and really take in the whole view. After 9/11 of course that all changed.
Beautiful park with BBQ facility for spend the day. You can unwind your families and friends to have a long day here with great view. Boating is another facility that you can use it here. Walking along the foot paths leads you to take superb views of Colorado river. Enjoy in the evening would be great experience for you.
PLEASE city of Austin allow public access on the dam! It was my favorite place in Austin to go picnicking
Perfect for a little getaway. Relaxing
Mansfield Dam (formerly Marshall Ford Dam) is a dam located across a canyon at Marshall Ford on the Colorado River, 13 miles (21 km) northwest of Austin, Texas. The groundbreaking ceremony occurred on February 19, 1937, with United States Secretary of the Interior Harold L. Ickes attending. The dam was a joint project by the Lower Colorado River Authority(LCRA) and the United States Bureau of Reclamation, with partial funding provided by the Public Works Administration. Brown and Root, headed by James E. Walters, Sr., was the prime contractor. The dam was completed in 1941. Originally called Marshall Ford Dam, the name was changed in 1941 in honor of United States Representative J.J. Mansfield. The reservoir behind Mansfield Dam is named Lake Travis. The dam is owned and operated by the LCRA.Lake Travis is a reservoir on the Colorado River in central Texas in the United States. The reservoir was formed in 1942 by the construction of Mansfield Damon the western edge of Austin, Texas by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), and was built specifically to contain floodwaters in a flash-floodprone region. During its construction, after a severe flood in July 1938, the height of the dam was raised to add storage capacity for floodwaters.
You cant walk or drive across the dam but the park is nice enough!
Beautiful little spot but because it’s on lake Travis it’ll cost 10 bucks just to enter.
One of the Paddle-Trips/Trails I take launching from Mansfield Dam Park-Boat RampA PADDLE-TRIP LOOP - (last Paddled 08-13-20)Launch: Mansfield Dam Park-Boat RampLower Lake Travis (south shoreline), Travis County, Texasto and through Sometimes Island chain - through the Shallowsto Windy Point - up along Lake Travis (north shoreline) passingthrough the mouths of Cypress Creek - Macks Canyon Creek- Gun Hollow Creek - out to Starnes Island (mouth of Sandy Creek)- Looping back to Mansfield Dam Park-Boat Ramp
Beautiful place to just be. Bbq Pits and Picnic tables.
Nice dive area, cheaper than Windy Point particularly for veterans with a certain VA disability.
Beautiful park, great to parking boat trailer.
Beautiful Lake. However you still cant use the picnic tables which makes no sense!
Clean Park / Easy Parking / Public Restrooms / Picnic Tables & Grills / Dog Friendly / Beautiful Views of the Lake / Not Overcrowded
Its very beautiful place
Great family park. Lots to do. Boat ramp area, playground and picnic areas with above ground pits. Some are so close to the water.
Beautiful sites. Cool area to picnic
A calm & lovely place in Austin. We spotted few deers on way to dam.As of Mar1,2020 the fees has been set to $5 per person. Please carry cash or cheque only(cards not accepted). Had an hour walk and felt so peaceful n alone.Few people got in boats in their trailers and were cooking barbeque along the shore.Good place to lookout for potluck or family gathering
Nice place to walk around the park and great views.
I came here today, October 18th, 2018, to witness history in the making. As of the time I was there, Lake Travis water level was 701.62, making it the 5th all-time highest water level. There are only 4 floodgates open currently, and the water is rising as Im typing this. The current forecast is for the Lake to rise to an incredible 710+, making it only 4 away from the spillway. With Buchanan dam still having open floodgates, filling Travis constantly, and with another 2-5 of rain in the forecast.. Things may get interesting for the city of Austin!!
This is a good park, the kids had fun. We paid $15 for the entrance. It gets very crowded so even if you pick a nice spot, you may not feel isolated at all...
Great location, exceptional views. The lake was up on our recent visit. The water was cool and clear. Above my expectation, this place is well worth a visit if you are close by.
One of the few boat ramps that was still open the park itself is fine and nice my complaint was they had their bathrooms closed why would you have your bathrooms close during the summer when you going to see a lot of people there they had porta potties but you were in terrible condition
This place is fantastic!! Beautiful moonrise can be caught around 9:30p (this time of year). Im sure theres a high point I havent found yet that might offer a wonderful sunset view as well!
I didnt know something was different
Watch the dawn. Nice views by the dam
Water was awesome good place to keyak..
Beautiful and peaceful place to relax and enjoy more activities.
Best dam tour ever
The pics on here are pretty; the place in real life was much less so. $10 per car to park. Very little educational information about the dam itself. Kind of a bust from a tourist perspective unless youre REALLY into dams. Ah well.
Great location, well maintained. Good fishing and perfect for outdoor activities.
Nice park and playground
Clear water, clean place for BBQ.Play ground for kids and free for Disabile Veteran plates. Thanks for your support.
We love boating here!
Was an amazing place finding and beautiful as well. Came here to fish with my brother and finding a secluded spot proved tricky at first. But then we found an area near the dam and caught about 6 fish 4 of them being catfish. Had so much fun will definitely be coming back.
Beautiful and relaxing place. The staff keep the park and lake very clean. They constantly monitoring the lake to keep it safe and there is a section for swimming just make sure that you wear your beach shoes since the rocks are very slippery and some are very sharp. There is also an area to bbq and a childrens park. Hope everyone enjoys it.
Beautiful ️ place. You can enjoy. You can cook BBQ
Great park to visit. Beautiful lake area for pictures. I would highly recommend visiting.
Deepest boat ramp on the lake. Remember that layer this summer when water is low..
Had a blast!
$10 parking. Really nice picnic area.
Perfect place for a Sunday funday
Nice park where you can sit relax and have a nice picnic having an overview of lake. However water is not that clean and was smelly. Didn’t feel like dipping feet in it. Entrance fee is $15 per vehicle. If you park car outside you have to pay $3 per pedestrian. Kids go free of cost.
Good place to hang out. The 10$ parking fee is expense . If you are not going to do fishing, boating, it is not worth to pay 10$ . There are good jogging, cycling trails, small play ground and plenty of parking spaces.
Lake Travis is indeed the top 5 most popular lakes in Texas but I kind of feel like this park is over charging people to get in for just only a day. I dont come here very much and its kind of out my way. I go to downtown Austin more than here. I did come here when the lake was super low but I came in the winter for hiking.
Very nice park at Mansfield Dam Recreational Area. Great place to picnic or boat launch.
Nice place for a day-long picnic or an evening stroll. There are plenty of parking lots near the water, which is useful when you have a lot of picnic & swim stuff to carry. We enjoyed the entire stroll from the entrance to the waterfront
Very cool and awesome place. Kids will be stoked. Its a place the the ones I remember from childhood. That means good. Fishing seems prime I just didnt have that RT gear
Nice little spot. Even has a boat launch if you have a boat.
Showed up today around 11am for a camping & diving weekend with a huge group showing up spanning from Corpus to DFW. The grass in the park was pretty high. I actually heard the maintenance guy tell the gate attendant he wasn’t mowing the grass today because the grass was wet. This was just morning dew and it was dry within an hour. High grass brings more bugs and divers from long distances are camping here. I’d rate this place higher but lazy incompetent people completely ruin a location for me. I haven’t had this issue at Windy Point.
Didnt understand why we had to pay for 2 parking permits and it was one vehicle. But beautiful view
Great place..fun for family .. our boat took on water and lots of help came immediately!..love Austin and love Texas!!
Nice place to visit on a bike, once youre here. Little bit treacherous biking on 620, but worth it. Great views.
Nice Place
Beautiful place to visit
Open the park to everyone!! Currently closed to anyone that doesn’t bring a boat in tow.
Really cool damn. Never seen one before and this park is ideally located to see it perfectly. Definitely looking to go back later on.
Do not like the $5 charge per person to enter the park. A vehicle charge would be better
Clean and awesome place to fish. Easy ramp to drop your boat. Fish werent biting but maybe next time. Still a fun experience
Really good Park for parties have awesome views plus lake try to go to this park.
Its a Texas park...watch out for doggy doo and rude speeding bicyclists. No park Ranger anywhere.
Very nice and quiet location. Lot of open area for picnic. A lot of water activities here.it is a must visit place for every person who lives in Austin. The entry for this park with $15 cash or check no credit cards or debit cards accepted at the entry gate. Anyone should plan to go there early in the day and plan to spend most of the day in the park. Bring a lot of sunscreen and water gear to keep you hydrated throughout your party.
Great lake access. Lots of parking. Need more restrooms.
The beautiful place. Wonderful picnicking places.
This is a great, quiet little spot to get away. Theres several semi private areas to swim and plenty of area for a picnic or just to hang out.
Nice place for a small picnic. The park is pretty small in size but it will not disappoint you. Enjoy some family time with barbecue and beers.
Very nice place..lake is low
The public swimming area is completely covered with poison oak. Even the concrete stairs are infested and the poison oak is running into the paths. They need to get some goats out here or something or at least warn the people when they go to the swimming area that it is there.
It has the best view and nice place for family time but they need to work on safety, I cut my feet with something around the water, they should check and make sure it’s safe and clean..
I originally went here to ride my MTB on the trails. There are no trails. I went back to launch my kayak. There is a nice, roped off, swimming area.
Clean bathrooms. Nice and quiet place to fish or grill. Good number of picnic tables.
Nice place for swimming, bbq and more. Family recommended. If you like fishing then your are in the right place
This is very pretty place, very peaceful
Great park, beautiful day!
Loved the location. Such a beautiful place to swim and enjoy jetski.. make sure you bring your own jetski though..
Beautiful !God is good!!
Our favorite place to go in the summer. Water is wonderful to swim in. Its beuatiful scenery. People are always friendly. Park is very clean.
Another nice place for a good sunny day. Swimming, tubing, speed boating, jet ski, barbecue lazing around were noticed.
Nice place to go and look at the water wash some boats drive by and catch some sun rays. You have to pay to get in that is the only downside of this park. Now that the waters back up I’m really looking forward to the summer.
Beautiful! Loved the place. Great lake for your watercraft!
Good swimming coves, beautiful view of the lake, grills, pavilions, boat ramp -- nice place for quality family time.
No fishing bites but real nice environment.
Beautiful park. We rented the Pavilion for an outing on Sunday and the staff was super friendly when we arrived and helpful. The swim area was clear and calm, really enjoyed getting in the water.
Nice clean park
The park has plenty of parking, benches and barbeque grills. The play area is close to the restrooms and well kept.
Love this place i really enjoyed my day
Depending on how high the water is, the boat ramp is very long and sloped. However the park is managed well and they have a nice dock to load boat passengers.
Large picnic area, boat launch, lots of shade trees
Really nice but you need to pay for entrance fee.$10 per a car, $3 per person if you are a pedestrian.
Its a great place to swim in the summer. If youre a geezer like me its free!
