A staple in Austin, the last time I went it was absolutely dead! Of the many times I’ve gone there’s always been plenty of people, a live band, and entertaining bartenders. I didn’t give it a lower score because the positives outweigh the one bad day I had. Great venue, great talent on stage and behind the counters, great young professional creative crowd, beside the loud boisterous backpackers that frequently love to announce loudly every plan they make to cross the USA and how amazing this place is. Door guys are cool, the food trucks that go are always good, just not necessarily filling, and is overall great.

I was in Austin for less than 24 hours but made it a point to stop by for a show and to check out the murals done by one of my favorite artists. In addition to a charming & delicious drink menu, they also have a cute patio. I loved being able to enjoy music in a very cool, LGBTQ friendly space. It was a total gem! Definitely recommend.

Such a welcome relief at the end of a long walk down the 6th Street mayhem. Chucks - (can I call it that lol) - has beautifully assimilated into a rocky alcove with billowing parachutes over water jet steel and concrete block patios creating an organic environment that promotes intimate moments and here I am living the American dream. Great and gay decor + sexy/innocent/adolescent lighting!

I’ve been to cheer ups a dozen times and have never been disappointed. They have fun signature cocktails and Golden Tickets are where it’s at for me. One of the first few times I went they were having a Britney Spears costume contest and themed dance night, which my friend and I dressed up for, and we spent hours grinding and singing along with a group of five other “Britneys”. A few times later I went with a work group and there was some kind of DJ set accompanied by a category based attitude/dance/strut competition. Last time I went the same type of competition was going on but it turns out that a big group from a fashion show was having an after party there and the competition was lit. Needless to say I learned how...to...vogue...

Cheer ups is like a cult favorite for the odd balls in Austin. The best and the coolest people hang out at Cheer ups including drag queens, people who love bounce houses (they have had a bounce house on occasion), arm wresting championships for women, and power woman bands. Ive seen some awesome shows and concerts at Cheer ups. The drinks are delicious, the bar tenders are happy, the bar is cool. Check it out!

What a fun hang out! First of all, I generally dont like going out to bars because Im a non drinker and I find very little variety in whats usually offered for people like me. This quirky cozy vegan joint actually has FRESH JUICE COCKTAILS! I was so delighted to see that on the menu and even more thrilled when the bartenders had no issue whatsoever pouring me the juice without the alcohol and basically charged next to nothing of it!@! Everything is vegan including the food truck Arlos. Super fun events, artistic and colorful ambiance, interesting staff. loved it!

Nice atmosphere, i loved the tupac mural they have in the back. We got there late at night on a Thursday, not looking for food I knew exactly what i was going for, their famous crazy elote Ive see on IG. Corn on the cob, with hot cheeto dust all over, umm yes. We also got the I believe was called churro ice cream? Both sides were soo good! Which we accompanied with beer on the tab! Lol (classy) I think this place makes a great hang out place with a hunch of friends as they have table games!

Honestly the people who work here are rude and terrible. I have had a couple drinks inside here before while getting Arlo’s (the food truck on the same lot) and this was the last time I’ll go to that location. I will go to a different arlos because I was harassed by the door man who told me “good luck drinking and driving” when I didn’t even have a single drink here tonight. We were at arlos to eat and then left at 9 pm. Really rude and wrong to place judgment on someone unknowing of their situation. “What a great welcoming place you have” - said no one ever.

Ive been to Cheer Up Charlies a few times the past couple of months. Each time I am there I run into the same rude door person lately, just awful. Who treats me and my wife as if we were reprehensible nobodies. We are only there to enjoy a drink before going off to other venue shows, and as far as I know, Charlies has always been a friendly and openminded place. Their service has been less than desirable recently at the front door. I believe that the ownership should be made aware. Ive tried to find a manager one of the times I have been there and experienced rudeness, but everyone looks to be a bar worker and seem busy. My wife was unable to shake the attitude from the one door security each night weve been.

The former home of Club de Ville, Cheer Up Charlies is a great part of the Red River bar and music scene. The outdoor stage is cut into the granite hillside backing the property and offers a very unique music-listening environment. A quick glance at their website proves that live music is very much still kicking on Red River.Drinks are cheap and the bartenders have always been quite friendly during all my interactions. This is a solid choice for hanging out prior to shows at neighboring Mohawk, especially if you want to sit down. There is usually a food truck parked out front if you get hungry.

Lots of fond memories here - especially when it was still Club DeVille. In spite of the rampant Red River district gentrification and P.C. Culture ramblings from its late night patrons, Cheer Up Charlies always creates an atmosphere that allows you to fall back in love with O.G. Austin, even if only for a little while. The lower mid-tier indie bands that frequent the stage almost always outperform expectations, and late night food truck offerings and cheap drinks make it a prime spot to either start or end your night.
