What used to be a state-of-the-art theater, is now running second-run films in this area. I enjoy the comfortable seats, but they dont turn into recliners. I enjoyed the sound and production values which were still very competitive in todays market. So if youre thinking of a place to see a show that youve missed on its first go-round, this is a good spot.
Great local theater with the best movies in town. The staff is terrific, especially Brenda. We look forward to seeing her every time we come there. Only one suggestion to the management. Turn up the thermostats. Its often uncomfortable without a jacket.
This theater is comfortable, but i wish it would update itself. Had to move because my first seat was lacking an arm rest, drink holder. This theater is one of the few that plays independent movies, so theres that. Their workers are nice and efficient. (I added a star because the theater reached out when they didnt have to do so. They pay attention to details. Cool).
Just went to see First Reformed with Ethan Hawke. Very clean and well taken care of. Fresh popcorn..no lines. They play some of the older movies or movies that dont come out at the other theatres, which is kind of nice. Alma was attending the concession stand and was very courteous and professional. Went for my sons 17th birthday...Regal did not disappoint!
By far my favorite place to see a movie.
The theater was clean, well-served with helpful staff. The seats were clean and very comfortable. I enjoyed the movie experience and would go there again.
You now have to buy your ticket at the concession counter. Good for sav8 them money, I suppose, but it sometimes forces people who cant afford the expensive concessions to wait in a long line. Also, I saw a trailer here Is seen elsewhere and it looked dimmer and washed out. Old projection bulb?
Nice little theater. Its not one of the big chains that serve food and drinks, so there was less distraction during the film. Lobby was open and clean, and had tables to sit at if waiting for friends. The auditorium itself was also very clean and well lit, and the seats were comfortable and in good condition.
Great intimate feel to this moviehouse a bistro like interior greets you as thou enter with tables to sit and talk instead puff trooping into a dark room. Indie films for the most part on the menu and its a great peace to watch them. Check it out. Our needs to remain there.
My friends and I affectionately refer to this theater as classy arthouse theater, and it always has the best of Independent films. The theater is small, tickets are available online, and concessions are reasonable. There are no reserved seats, and the screens can seem small, even though theyre obviously not. Its an enjoyable experience!
Great, though aging, art house theater. They show films you wouldnt get to see anywhere else. Been going there for years, highly recommended.
Great popcorn! Terrific selection of movies!! We love the Regal Arbor! Favorite movie theatre by far!
Great place with older clientele. They can be chatty but charming with their comments. Artsier movies.
I love seeing movies at the Gateway theater. They have lots of screens, and in my case, its a convenient location. It could use a facelift at this point though.
My fave art cinema
Ole fashioned theater with an artsy decor. Not overwhelming and alot of modernization overflow.ike the Metropolitan without having to drive all the way to south Austin congestion. Small escape to north from south.
I like most things about this classic theater. But... It would be great if the food got better. The pretzel was inedible.
Always check the upcoming calendar for any movies you missed seeing in theaters. Makes a great surprise date night sharing a classic or nostalgic movie in theaters.
This theater is always clean and has huge auditoriums! The staff is very friendly and not pushy at concessions when you’re taking a little time to figure out what you want. Seats are comfy and the theaters have a pleasant smell to them.
Very good if you want less mainstream films.
Pretty good theater, options for popcorn and alcohol are available. They often have free shows (like from Sony preview, AARP, etc) here and you dont have to wait in line.
Old school feel...you purchase tickets from concession stand, seats are like throwback. Small cozy clean
A smaller theatre with no fancy screens or seats. However, all the really good smaller films show here. People that work here are very friendly too.
Comfortable. Not very busy. Clean. Only 4 people in the see Downtown Abbey. Same the concessions are so pricey these days.
Not the most comfortable or nice theater, but plays the best movies.
Comfortable experience. Not as fancy as the newer theatres but everything seemed clean and well taken care of.
The audio in the theater I was in was pretty abysmal. It was too quite and the high frequencies seemed to get cut off making dialogue very difficult to understand. The lights were also left on making it difficult to see the screen. Other reviewers mention the audio so Im pretty sure this isnt just a one time thing. Acceptable audio shouldnt be too much to ask, Id avoid this theater.
Great place to see a movie. Lots of leg room.
The person taking the tickets was nice but the person who took our order was in a bad mood and rude.. When he gave us the hotdog he tossed it (not gently) on the counter.. We just privately laughed and made a joke to ourselves that he thought the hotdog was a football at the end zone. When I went back to order something else, there he was again annoyed with a bad attitude.. I didnt made a fuss about it because we were just going to enjoy our evening.. Everyone has bad days but if your in customer service dont taking out on the customers..
They should update their seating. The service was great though and I love that the show Indi films.
It was okay. The movie theater was outdated and somewhat expensive. It cost us $48 for 4 people. The workers were nice and the popcorn was good and the movie itself was okay.
Went to see Echo in the Canyon. Far too many ads. The sound system is not good at all. Here we are waiting to see a movie about music and the volume was on 2?Had a terrible time hearing what they were saying. For gods sake..turn it up people.Less than thrilling.
I just rewatched Star Trek the Motion Picture on the big screen for the first time in 40 years. It was like being on my first date again. Excellent experience.
You go here for the select movies that you dont find at other theaters... not the seating, which is old, or the expensive snacks. All that said, I go pretty regularly because of the quality of movies.
HORRIBLE. Crickets were EVERYWHERE. Parking lot, walking up to the theater, inside the lobby area, inside the theater itself, inside the BATHROOM. You could not walk into or out of the theater without stepping on crickets or having crickets jump across you as you walked. No wonder why there was no one else in the theater for a premiere movie..they all were smart enough to walk out because the crickets were making noise the entire time! Absolutely do not go here. Repulsive.
I love this theater. Its old and a bit raggedy, but they often offer interesting artsy movie choices and they have the best popcorn in any of the theatres. Im definitely sentimentally attached.
Love this theater and hate that its days are numbered. Depending on the movie and time of day it can be bustling or quiet. I appreciate the range of films shown.
My favorite movie place, less explosions and more story telling
Great no nonsense theater where you can catch the big movies as well as some that are harder to find. I came here to see free solo since this was one of the only theaters in Austin showing it which I really appreciated. Also they serve beer and drinks!
I park my car in the front. Walk in like a boss. Sit where I want. Now thats convience that makes me a loyal customer
Regularly has the best selection of commercial films in Austin. My favorite along with Austin Film Society.
Great people great service. They have ppv fights sometimes as well.
This theater is a bit older with relatively older style of seating (not stadium) but they play a lot of great independent films. I appreciate that Regal didnt give up on this location even though they have a newer theater just a mile away.
LOVE it!!! Yes, as per the one comment, this is a bit old school theatre but I really love it because: 1) They give you points for FREE movies, items, refreshments if you join the Regal Club (it is free) 2) They show a lot of Independent movies no one else shows. I love INDY movies! 3) They hire the handicapped 4) the theatre is clean, friendly folks 5) they serve beer, wine and a few healthier food/snack options in addition to the usual movie fare 5) It is never too crowded 6) It is pretty close to where I live 7) Convenient to Thai food next door, PF Changs across the street and Manuels Mexican food next door as well as many other nearby restaurants
Nice theater, interesting seats but nice atmosphere. Pros and cons......Nice size sodas, but the food prices are ridiculously high, i reccomend coming after you eat. Overall nice experience although the seats could use a upgrading.
More independent films than other theaters, beer and cocktails, free/discounted popcorn with loyalty club, and very friendly staff. Conversely never really crowded, there are almost always good seats available before the film begins. Ive seen maybe 40-50 films there, its always the first theater I check when looking for something to watch.
One of the few places around where you can see the newest independent films!
This theater is old, so the screens are small and the seating is a bit awkward. But they treat you great and they show the independent movies.
Great films here. Uncomfortable seats and high prices. Rewards program very weak.
Saw a Fathom Event at this theater. Not reserved seating and old style seats (no recline and no back movement). Theater room was a bit dirty, but thought the waiting area was super cute with tables and chairs. Typical food and drinks available, and had Starbucks beverages. Helpful staff too.
I was at an AARP movie, the movie itself was great, but it was really warm in the theater.
Not the lounger seats, but the staff are so happy and nice, they make up for it.
I like all Regal Theatres but the Stonelake location is my favorite.
Its a typical movie theater with nothing extra. The theaters are outdated and dirty. The staff is nice. The only reason I wouldnt give this theater a two star review, is because it was one of the few theaters in town showing a niche film I wanted to see. While its nowhere near as good as the Alamo Draft house experience, you might be able to see something less common here.
I like this theater because they show substantive movies, not a lot of junk. Very nice people/employees. The theater itself could use a little bit of a face lift, but its clean and very pleasant.
They play indie movies other places dont show.
Our local movie theatre, love them!
Great place to catch a movie and the parking is fabulous
Ive been coming to this theater for over 10 years now, and I highly recommend it. Ive never had a problem with the staff, even if its a totally new crew, theyve always been super friendly and accommodating. If you like indie, art house or foreign, this is the place. This is not a giant megaplex showing the latest Hollywood regurgitations, nor does it have a bar or serve you food in the theater. Instead, this place has character and soul, and like others have mentioned one can always find a seat and they offer all the other refreshments including alcohol that you can get anywhere else. Ill probably come here until this place vaporizes or I do, whichever comes first.
I really enjoy the selection of independent films at this theater and it is only a few miles from my house, plus moviepass is accepted here which is a huge bonus. The only downsides are that the seating is not stadium seating and as a result, I find that I end up moving if someone sits in front of me and I cant see over their head, and the screens are pretty small compared to newer theaters, the sound has been good quality in my experience though despite other reviews.I will keep coming back for the great selection of films, the proximity to my house, and the friendly staff!
Love having The Arbor theatre to see movies seldom carried by anyone else. I love it’s convenient location and that it is close to shopping and restaurants I like. The staff is always friendly and helpful, the popcorn fresh. There are the usual crazy prices for popcorn, drinks, candy etc. but that is true everywhere.
In town visting worst experience I ever had viewing a movie!...price was too high, snack was to expensive, too many previews, and seatings very uncomfortable
Friendly staff it is an older theatre so the seats are not that comfortable ...
Traditional movie theater. Love that they offer other movies like documentaries that the bigger theaters do not carry. Watched Eating Animals. Food was expensive as most theaters are. Seats are not comfy luke the newer theaters, but great traditional feel. Friendly staff.
I really like this theater, good service, high quality films.
Very small and quiet movie theater. Great place for a date or when you dont want the big crowds.
Nice movie theater with good number of screenings
Good food, good service, great drinks!
Nice old styled theater with a interesting selection of movies compared to main stream theater. Great customer service for tickets and food
The place to see the cool movies
Cozy little theater that runs mostly indie and limited release films. Enjoyed many movies here using Moviepass (before the MP crash). The staff is friendly and the place is clean. While there is no stadium-style seating, the screens are high up enough that someone in front shouldn’t block your view.
Nice small theater. AC works well.
A great well-cared for older theater offering the more unique, non-mainstream and creative films. Wish I lived closer to come more often.
The theater plays off beat movies. So its pretty good for non commercial meaningful entertainment. The halls are old though.
Great indie theater. No frills. Just movies.
My favorite cinema in all of Austin! Never too crowded, great films, across the street from Trader Joes. What more could you want? Sad thing is that the lease is up next year, and theyre thinking about demolitioning the place to make room for more condos in its place...like we need anymore. UGH
Sometimes its the only theater showing the movie you wanna see, so theres no choice. However, its always at least a bit uncomfortable. The seats need a serious upgrade, as its impossible to get comfortable, and the screen is rather small. Staff is nice though.....
Clean but needs updated, still a good movie theater
Always love the Arbor Theater! Great movies that feed the soul. It is a shame that New Austin decided the property was underutilized. Some developer bought the property and will tear down the theater to build a 400+ apartment building. Go watch a movie at the Arbor while you still can!
Popcorn tasted old and stale and theater sound was terrible. Needs upgrades
Good art-house movies, not mainstream Hollywood. Nice facility.
The best movie theater in Austin for my money. They actually play good stuff, its hard to find a bad movie at this place.
Good experience. No reserved seating, no recliners. I think they show movies that dont typically come out in bigger theaters. Saw Mr. Rogers documentary and enjoyed the theater and movie.
Old theatre but the movie selection is fantastic. If you are into independent and more artistic films this is the place to go in the north side of Austin.
A great movie theater, the only Regal theater in Texas which is dedicated to showing alternative, independent films, foreign films & restored classics. Staff are gracious & profesional. It is very clean & well maintained. There is cafe seating for guests between films.
I love this theater. I stop and see a good indie movie every chance I get. Theatergoers are respectful and quiet. The staff is great and helpful. They only show good indie movies. Its second only to Violet Crown but thats just because alcohol. I really love alcohol.
Better popcorn than Alamo. Barely meets any other standard though. Dont bother with the bathrooms.
Watched Harriet! Great facility
Great theater - comfortable seats! Great popcorn with a great movie.
Love their selection of films. If you love indie and alternative films, this is the place for you!
This is one of the best places to watch independent films that cant be found at the local cineplex. The seats are a bit uncomfortable compared to all the new theaters. The location is great with ample parking compared to the other theater downtown that shows similar films.
In the last quiet, serious 20 minutes of the movie, it sounded like happy hour showed up at the back door. The waiting crowd outside the doors was more audible than the movie. Ruined the ending. I spoke to manager & he acknowledged some people do complain but, meh. He didnt seem to care much.
A nice theater that shows classic & indie movies plus adult beverages!
This Indie theater is a gem! Evil developers plan to tear it down in a year or two. Sadly.
Nice theatre. Expensive drinks and popcorn but fairly large sizes. Next time Ill get smalls.
Movies that dont make the larger theaters. Nice to have tables and chairs for waiting for your movie. Better selection of refreshments than most.
This is my favorite theater! I heard a developer is going to tear it down to build apartments. That makes me very sad.
Cool cinema. Seems pretty well kept. Bit more expensive than the rest, but worth it to see the limited release films they show.
DO NOT GO IN HUNGRY. you will leave poor. They think way to highly of their popcorn. Which isnt that good.Seats need an upgrade.
