Excellent gallery with interesting art that rotates often. The people are friendly, knowledgeable and caring. Awesome events, classes and talks for artists and aspiring artists. A fun place with sense of community. Wonderful! Thank you all for what you do. Jefferson, who coordinates the events does a great job and I look forward to going back for the resources offered here.

A great community resource for the arts! I really appreciate the free workshops they offer for artists on the business side of being a professional artist. I often check out the Dougherty Arts Center on Facebook for the latest news and upcoming events, theyre always up to date and I like the frequency and variety of offerings. The location is convenient, just be careful driving or biking down Barton Springs road. People can drive pretty fast down there. Its right next to Butler park which is lovely to check out as well if you have time.

Lots of fun events happening all of the time! Its a lite tucked away but there is more parking in the back. This is an especially great outing for families with smaller kids who get overwhelmed in large spaces.

Its an art school that values their students. I was there for an art exhibit event and everyone loved the exhibit and also traveled through the school admiring the student art. I recomend for all ages.

How do I even talk about the place where our family and so many other families can celebrate art. Sometimes it’s our kids art. Sometimes it’s other fascinating shows . I particularly enjoyed the tall colorful crazy art structure that was out in front a few years ago. I want it or something like it back. It’s a place where artists and enjoyment of art are made.Sometimes I stop when driving by and not in a hurry, to smell what’s cooking.

The staff and class offerings here are amazing. Parking passes available for students and countless different opportunities. I feel blessed to have this arts center in our community and so close by. Unfortunately, I’ve only taken one course to date but hope to do more with more availability.

I went to an open mike. There was a poet accompanied by a guitar. A man with 40 different harmonicas playing harmonica in a way Id never seen. There was a lady who sang a Hebrew song first in Hebrew and then translated to English and then she showed her book about her life as a sweet pea. A guitarist played some original songs. A 3 person band were a lot of fun. And then a cospiracy theorist with tales of the government destroying her life and causing the suicides of both of her brothers and giving her a case of temporary induced venereal disease........All in all a very eclectic evening had by all.

The aging and unkept facilities I could deal with but at least create good classes with good teachers. I took a beginner painting class which was as different from the description as I could imagine. It was basically 3 hours of painting on your own with no instruction. Nor did the teacher seem capable or have the desire to put in effort towards actually teaching skills.

Such a treasure! My friends grew up practicing for the Zilker Musical here. The creative club after school program is wonderful! I always see the kids in the park and they get their art displayed in the gallery at the end of the year. The cover many different disciplines, including digital animation and are very reasonable for after school care. Love this place!

Essential venue for the artistic community of austin, hosting great performances and helping to support and sustain the artists they host. Frequently offers free rehearsal space for a variety of local theatre companies and the like, especially those that work with children. A great education force and resource as well. Never a bad night to go to the DAC, even if its just to look at the pieces on display before you stop by that weird sketchy McDonalds on Barton Springs Rd. (I recommend the adjacent What-A-Burger instead) Would and very much will be coming here again, as well as having been many times in the past. Austin wouldnt be the same without it.

Our almost first-grader attended the creativity club after school program for about half the school year and just finished two summer arts adventure camp sessions. Its been an awesome experience - excellent programming, instructors, and facilities. I love that DAC is part of our community and our son feels at home there, which enables him to explore and learn both creatively and socially. The staff are all amazing, and its one of the more affordable after school/summer camp options. Well definitely be back next year!

This review is for the summer camp program. The teachers and classes themselves are great but the registration process is terrible and the administrators have an air of self-important bureaucrats. My older son has attended every summer for a few years but after dealing with said administration regarding an issue that came up this year, we are unlikely to return. While disappointing, the outcome of the issue is not what bothered me so much as the attitude.

My daughter had a dance recital here and the stage and seating area is a good size but the day we went the A/C was out so it wasnt very comfortable. The parking lot is usually full as some use it to visit the park nearby or other venues. The only other option is to pay for parking at the Palmer Events Center

Review №45

The DAC was once a neat venue that unfortunately is hurting the arts due to numerous restrictions added to the use of the theater. The restrictions effect groups that have previously used the theater as a performance venue. This will ultimately result in less quality performances for the community.
