How cool is it that Austin has its own resource for learning how to print and bind your own books? The Austin Brook Arts Center has classes to teach you everything from setting the typefaces on a hand-cranked printer, to binding your own novel, to printing out high-quality postcards and business materials. This is DIY culture at its most literate. I visited the open house event two days ago and now Im looking forward to enrolling in their fall workshops. While I was at the open house, they let me make my own little notebooks and a business card holder. I also got to operate the hand-cranked printer and make a small sign. I met members of the staff like Mary and Melissa. Everyone there was super nice and knowledgeable and there were just good vibes all around!

Just visited for an open house, but loved how knowledgeable everyone was! The equipment looked well-maintained, and everything was well organized. Were definitely looking at signing up for a class or two, and considering memberships.

Took a letterpress class with Amanda at Austin Book Arts Center. It was very informative and fun. The space is small but has more than enough room for the students and equipment. The class was very hands on and we all got to design our own cards and use the letterpress equipment.The six hours flew by and I was really surprised the class covered so much in that time. I would definitely take another class there. Also Id recommend bringing a lunch for classes since there are not too many eating options nearby.

Printing, binding, and other bookish pursuits are jam-packed into this cozy space. The staff are super-friendly, too!

I enjoyed my workshop quite a bit.

Their studio is inside of a beautiful gallery building. A group of very talented artists that teach a variety of book arts courses. Im excited to see they now offer letterpress courses! They are incredibly knowledgeable and seem to really love what they do. Will be coming back soon. Thank you, ABAC!
