Booked the regular ticket that takes you through two haunted houses. The first one was awesome as it had themes from almost every halloween wet dream. I wouldnt want to spoil anything but please dont run off in the beginning. It was a wonderful experience. The staff was pretty engaging in their acts and helpful too if we lost our way.The second one was a 3D event, one which had a more light-hearted atmosphere. The visual props were pretty great but I would rate it a step below the first one.I appreciate the fact that the staff checked our temperature before entry. The reputation for this place is well-deserved.
We visited tonight with our sons for their “Night of Isolation”. No actors, no lights, animatronics and glow sticks only. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!! Literally felt like I was walking in a real life horror movie. Visiting a haunted house knowing that no actors will attempt to scare you adds a whole new element of scare. We fully knew we were alone yet at every turn we were greeted with another heart pounding experience. We hope they continue with this option moving forward even after COVID restrictions are lifted. It was a great option for the younger kids and nervous adults alike. Thanks for everything tonight!!
Amazing atmosphere and begins right when you get to to the line. Being in a back alley, the live dj music, characters all walking around, it really brings an adrenaline rush before you even step foot in the house. Inside the props and live characters were amazing and everything looks so real. From a family who loves haunted houses, this one is wicked and we will continue to go every year. Workers were super friendly, and they did a great job keeping everyone socially distant.
Amazing experience as always. Even during COVID, Basement of the Dead surpassed my expectations. The actors were so on point and interactive, and there was a great mix of the other senses, sound, feel, it was all there. The mixture of the loud music and disorientating lighting made for amazing scares. There were even moving floors, sinking floors, it was just great. So many different techniques used to scare. Really impressive. I would say there was around 35 actors in house, and live entertainment outside. They hit the marker with the amount of actors as well, a great amount for the size and length.I would suggest making a trip if you haven’t gone! And to all the actors and the actor director(s), you did a great job! Cant wait to see what’s in store next year.
My son and daughter absolutely had a great time. Its like tradition they go every year. They were happy to see how everyone took social distancing and wearing their face masks seriously. They said the music and atmosphere was really nice.
Expected more for 30 bucks. 3d clowns was cool. 2 haunted houses only took 24 min. More of a maze with cool props. Not scary at all. Nobody chased us. This is a kid level haunted house.Did drive over 90 miles to get here. YouTube videos where better than the the actual thing. Most movement you will see by monsters is outside in line. They danced the entire time.
It’s was so amazing and scary. The whole atmosphere was cool and the DJ! I would 1000% recommend this place to Anyone. Had some good scares and laughs! Will be coming back soon!
Shout out to the owner Jason for making happen for my brother Jesse. He accommodated him so well for being in a wheelchair. Ty to your team! The whole prop set ups was so freaking awesome! I got so scared I dugg my nail prints on my friends arm It was scary! The second part was the best! Must come see! I wont ruin for others
Had a great time with my girlfriend. Actors here did a great job adhering to the covid19 protocols. Had several good scare moments. The skip the line VIP tickets definitely worth it if you dont want to stand in the cold.
The haunt was great! The actors and props including music were fantastic. They did a great job social distancing before you went in but not so much on the inside of the haunt. Once we walked in we were immediately on top of the group in front of us and the group behind us was stepping on us as well. We had thought that the group behind us was maybe running so we let them go in front of us and then another group came directly after them. There was just absolutely no way to maintain any sort of distance. I have been to a few other haunted houses this year that have done absolutely amazing keeping more than 6 feet apart in the line as well as in the haunted house. Was not pleased with the amount of times we were stepped on and had tried to social distance from the group in front of us. It was impossible to try to social distance because of them letting people in too soon.
#1 in my book. I recommend this one. For shattered 3d. Whoever came up with that idea/part. Your a genius. I want more next year.
We had a ball. The venue is staged very well. The rooms are loaded with props and actors. Fog, laser lights and air pressure shots keep you on your toes. I love the fact that you go through a lot of rooms before its over. A+
The atmosphere is spot on! They do a really good job of providing an environment of both horror and suspense that if nothing else, is very entertaining and immersive. The actors also fantastic at adding to the illusion without being disrespectful or too aggressive. Would go again.
Have been going to Basement of the Dead for over 5 years. This year with COVID we were a bit skeptical at how good it may be. It was AWESOME they definitely Outdid themselves. Every year its great but this year was my Favorite thus far!
This was very well done all the actors where super nice and fun also. With covid restriction all the employees were too notch. Definitely a realy fun outing with the family. Music in the line while we wait. Only thing I would add would be mybe heating station in the line. Was a little chilly waitting but that come with the time of year. All in all very fun
This time we went to the one with no actors and minimum lights. The experience was scarier than a usual haunted house. It seemed that the props and effects were made closer for this event. 10/10 great new experience
This place was extremely scary yet fun. There was a crazy clown that carried a 2x4 with red hair in the beginning that made the experience more fun before we entered. Also there was 2 parts and each one freaked out me and my friends. I recommend to anyone that really wants to be scared.
Great atmosphere. Wait was long but definitely worth it! Scary & hilarious actors all around while your waiting. Dj was lit. Have a few drinks before you go to enjoy the fun outside waiting in the nightmare nightclub. They only allow your group in at a time. Once we entered.... I was jumping left & right. They made sure everyone was wearing a mask at all times. 2nd house, 3d clown was trippy. Staff was great & friendly
You pay for the price of 1 haunted house for 2. Definetly safe no one touched us. But they did have extra air hoses and drop off windows to scare you. One part we could barely see but it was great. VIP is a must saved like one to two hours. Definetly recommend. That 3D haunted house was a great idea.
I liked it but the line to wait was completely boring. The workers barely had the energy to pull off a good scare. Idk if COVID-19 decreased the fun in haunted houses this year. The actual haunted house was great, I really enjoyed it. This year (i think) they added a 3D section and that was really fun, i have to admit
Me and my girlfriend went and we were expecting something really boring and not scary because of covid. When we got there there was a line but it wasn’t too bad and then the second we got inside the haunted house, I wanted to leave. The whole entire attraction lasted around 25 minutes or so which is actually pretty long. There were two parts of the haunted house and in the second part, you get 2d glasses and it makes it even scarier because it feels like the props are jumping at you. The actors in both parts were super good and they definitely did a great job at scaring me. I think I was genuinely screaming as loud as I could every 2 seconds because the actors scared me so bad. At the end when it was over, I was sweating so bad and I lost my voice. I can easily say that I’ve never been more scared in my life. This is definitely worth the money and they did an amazing job at adjusting everything with covid. If I could give 6 stars, I would.
Drove an hour and a half to come here to only be in both the haunted houses for 20 minutes. It was nice having no line but we went through so quick. I’m not sure if it was because of covid but there weren’t many actors either, especially in the clown haunted house. Just sad because I heard it was so good!
Was a very good time! They has multiple sanitizer stations three out the time your there. The experience was very good as well inside. Will be back next weekend!
The props and actors were great.Only thing is the experience was ruined by having both the group ahead of us and the group behind us all smashed together. Would’ve definitely been more scary and entertaining focusing on one group at a time vs 3. Therefore I was more startled by the loud air popping than any of the actors.
It was very cool and scary! loved the dj and all of the scare actors. i liked how there was two houses and different levels! 10/10 would recommend!
The Best of the Best! We attend a lot of haunted houses across the country. Basement Of The Dead in Aurora, Illinois is by far at the top of my list for the overall amazing experience. You don’t want to miss this!
Was a great haunted house. Lines were fast. Host man was great. Good animatronics and actors. Clean. Actually got me to scream a few times and I’m usually hard to scare. Porto potty’s around too.
A bit disappointed with my experience with Basement of the Dead. On one hand, the lighting and ambience was great. On the other, the excessive use of flashing lights and loud noises makes it unintentionally hard to see or hear any of the actors. For people with glasses, I suggest you avoid going unless you have spare contact lenses to wear. With how much your glasses will be fogging up from the masks and the flashing lights in certain sections, you wont be able to see enough to appreciate the details put into each room (which are really well done). In the second section, they provide 3D glasses, making navigating completely impossible with how dark the rooms get.The placement of actors was a bit awkward at times, with some being easily spotted from a distance, to others not being visible or noticeable at all among animatronics. All in all, it was okay, but nothing to write home about. If there was less of sensory overload with the lights and sounds and more focus on the actors and their interaction with you, I feel the experience would end up being much better.
I’ve never been to a haunted house that was 16 minutes long! Literally start to finish was so quick. Not worth the $30 plus $5 in extra fees. Don’t pay for VIP our time slot was 10pm. We pulled into the parking lot at 9:20 and was in our car ready to head home by 9:40. Most ridiculous waste of money! I gave 2 stars because it was a fun & scarey 16 min. They take your temperature and give you hand sanitizer. Sorry to disappoint you. Wish someone would have told us!
Very amazing costumes, and very detailed. The use of lighting and noises were great but not to many actors or jump scares. Kind of disappointed because I heard it was the scariest one in Illinois. And it is a little pricey for a short haunted house.
This haunted house was soo good. i loved how they were scaring you before you even got inside! me and my friends loved it. Definitely the scariest haunted house in illinois highly recommended!
This haunted house is a must see! We loved the effects and the lighting. The actors and props were so cool. They surprised us alot! Oooo scary!!
We ended up with the group of 8 infront of us, the group of 2 behind us, and the group of 2 behind them. We became a group of 14 and were nuts to butts until we came to the clown area. They separated us. The clown part was awesome and it was so nice being back in our original groups.
Literally SO bad!! The worst haunted house I have ever been to. I have gone to so many and this was by far the worst. They put the groups in way too close together so you catch up to the group in front of you, and it was so short (about 25 min). Waste of money, wasn’t scary. And the worst part is I traveled 2 hours to get there because of how awesome the reviews were. And no, I am not confusing this with any other haunted house.
Was really nice for what they could do with the covid. Usually much scarier. But since covid is here not the same. Still had a blast
Scary af!!! I know with Covid going on places haven’t been as scary but this place was still 100% scary!! Loved every second from the line outside till inside. Also workers checking tickets were very nice and respectful. if I can give 10 stars I would. Thank you!
This is one of the worst haunted house Ive been to I would not recommend going. It goes way to fast and the workers at the door dont wait for your group to go so when you walk in its already crowded with people and ruins the fun I give 3-10
It was cool. I wish it would have been scary. Its not worth $34. Nonetheless, I enjoyed myself.
Its hard to do anything with these covid restrictions but they definitely pulled it off. Great spooky szn at basement of the dead
One of the BEST HAUNTED HOUSES IN IL!!!! The actors and entertainment are amazing!!!! Definitely check Basement out if you haven’t yet, TRUST ME YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED!!
Had a great time with my family. I love how it’s something new every year.
I decided to take my daughter here for her first time. I have been going here for the last 5+ yrs and always buy the VIP. This year I feel like it was not what I was expecting. I understand with covid they had to practice social distancing but having barely any popup scares like we normally get was a little disappointing. On top of that, we were literally only in both haunted houses for like 15 minutes when it has been longer then that the last 5+ times I have came here. The decorations and setups inside were on point like they always were but catching people who could of scared my daughter and I around the corner and in the next setup scene, was met with the employees talking to their co workers till they realize they see us then it is no longer a scare because they were not waiting on us like they were suppose too. It was not every single person but a good enough to realize this was not what I normally get out of this place. I never leave a extensive review like this but I feel like I let my kid down speaking so highly and ending up getting a bad visit after driving over an hour. I always said this was the best haunted house you can go to multiple times and always get the best scare but I do not know if I can say that anymore and I have been to almost every haunted house in IL and IN.
This place was really fun and my group didnt have to wait in line longer than 25 minutes for the GA. the only annoying thing, which also kinda ruined the experience was that the groups were put in too close to each other. The group in front of us was was extremely slow, making us, and everyone else behind us cram together..
This was a very cool experience! This was my first time doing an escape room and it was a great time with my friends! I definitely recommend going with a group of friends it will be a great night for everyone. John and Nick did a great job of hosting and they are very into their work so it made it that much more enjoyable! Will be back to do all the other rooms!
Not as scary as I thought considering it was a black out event, but it was fun they got me a couple times.
Dude this place is great. Go there. Im not going to say anything about ot you just gotta see it for yourself
Awesome decorations and acting especially during COVID! I felt safe walking in with the distance, masks and sanitizers
This was the BEST haunted house I’ve been to this season, they did an amazing job making a great scare while still accommodating to covid guidelines. Definitely worth the money, I got exactly what I was expecting from a haunted house!!!
My sister and nephew were in town so we took them here. My sister screamed a couple of times it was fun great place.
I live in Oregon and decided to travel this covid haunt year and I picked Chicago! Basement of the dead was on the top of my list to attend and it blew me away as expected!! The midway area even though full of covid safety precautions was still awesome (and i assume its even more during non covid years). The haunt itself was fantastic, great sets, great flow, actors were on point and i didnt even notice them trying to stay 6ft away they did so well on that. Lighting is a big thing for me and it was on point throughout. The 3d maze was jaw dropping!! Ive been through many and this one totally took the top spot now! Disorienting and crazy and tons of great 3D depth, fairly long too!!All in all for the price and experience this is a great haunt!!! Great merch too!! Thanks to all the cast and crew of Basement for their hospitality and great experience!!!
BEST haunted house Ive been too. Went to 13th floor friday and was a waste of my money. Went to disturbia and basement of the dead yesterday. Basement of the dead was AMAZING. Atmosphere, characters, decorations, details, and scares were the best. The ending is amazing!! Must see.
By far the best haunted house I’ve been to all year. Lots of scares and very spaced out with all of COVID going around. By far the best experience yet.
Was too fast, maybe about 5 actors due to Covid, and most just looked and hid. I came an hour away and it took like 15 mins. Not scary at all. I highly suggest hells gate, it’s the best one instead of this waste of time.
Had a blast last night first time at a haunted house omg I was so scared lol worth the buck had music and was fun ...!!!!
Was the best great job basement of the dead it was scary I was screaming the whole way through I will totally come again
Went there two years ago, great time. Went there today, disappointment. Thanks pritzger
The haunted house was over priced and had little to no jump scares. It was basically a house with low lighting and loud noises. Would not recommend.
Great job making us feel safe with the precautions all you staff took due to covid, but everyone did an even better job scaring all of us to death! So many screams from all!!!!
Omg what an amazing time !!! The actors were amazing ! The staff was amazing ! We only waited about 15 minutes . They are so friendly ! I drove over an hour to go here and it was worth the drive ! Music was great during the wait . And during this horrible pandemic they had everyone in masks and made sure everyone followed social distancing rules . Great job guys !
If I could give no stars I would. This was the WORST haunted house I have ever been to. I was so disappointed because a lot of previous years they won a lot of titles for being the best haunted house. There was NO social distancing. I was with my boyfriend and MULTIPLE times we ran into the group in front of us. We had to stop so many times throughout the two haunted houses because they didn’t dismay either groups enough everyone was basically running into each other. The actors and the DJ in the waiting line were more entertaining than this haunted house. The guy that was dressed as a pig and scared people with the car lights was the ONLY scary part.Very surprised this haunted house was so bad. Especially since this haunted houses created Disturbia.I went to Disturbia right before And was blown away. Disturbia is probably one of the BEST haunted houses I’ve ever been too.(and I got to a lot.) Loved it so much I can’t wait to recommend it to my friends. I just wish it was a little longer. The actors were amazing, the props and all the room and art were SO GOOD!!! Definitley will be going back to Disturbia next year hopefully it will be open!
Awesome! Great workers and owners!!! Highly recommend it!! Great scares from the moment you walk in to the end!!
Not that creepy but ite something to do coivd really ruined it
Let us in even thought we bought the wrong tickets. Very covid safe as well!
Paid $35.00 for ticket for my son, Drove all the way from Joliet to Aurora, he was so psyched up.. I was waiting outside for him I was gonna go to dinner and before I knew it he called me and said the tour was over ...so it was like 20 minutes so NOT worth the money at all.
This experience is definitely one to remember forever!! Great staff! Especially John! Super into his job and it makes everything that much better!! Thanks for a super scary, anxious, fun, amazing night!
It was WELL WORTH the entrance price. Long and scary we went in a group of 10 everyone was scared but to make it more scarier go through 5 at a time so everyone gets the thriller experience
Greta job and an amazing experience, vary scary, Very fun. Great job at following covid guide lines and highley recommend.
I had a great time, lady clown was chasing me and I tripped and she helped me back up, very professional of the staff, would definitely come again :)))
PROS* Great Costume Details* A lot of details in the 2 halves, more in the first half.* The 2nd half has the 3D effects and they were done very well and I havent seen some of the effects mixing the animatronics with 3d paints in any other houses.* Live DJ* Easy to find / get to this house.* Friendly staff where needed.* Some actors were awesome and really into their roles. (Shout out to the topless half painted dude in the first house, most of the ladies on the huge crates / blocks contorting their bodies in odd ways, and the doll giving out the 3d glasses before the 2nd half)* Love the use of the realistic mannequins.* Set Design was well done and superb in some areas.CONS:* upon arrival couldnt figure out the line system / had to wait to find employee to assist with where Im to wait for the VIP line.* outdoor waiting ( though it it protected from a decent amount of wind with all the building around)* multiple actors asked Are u alone? / traveling alone? Like its a surprise... just please for the love of god try to scare me and not ask such a stupid question when the haunt has spacing put in place between groups due to Covid.* Saw few actors before they were going to do their act and they didnt even bother as I knew their presence... once again just try...Nitpicks:* I could tell where actors should of been but werent. Like the huge hanging props you can move around behind the prop, some smaller crevices indented into the wall.* The I believe devil completely missed me between the other groups taking his shortcut to the start of his space...* Either I wasnt stepping on all of the step pads in the first half of the first half of the haunt or they just were not working. I started going out of my way to step/ jump on them to get them to work as I seen stuff that should be animated with step pads near them.* Need to move a trashcan closer to the gift stand so people throw out their 3D glasses in the trash, that dont want to save them for the free offers and discounts, and not onto the table where one would buy stuff. The mess of those glasses was the deciding factor to not even bother buying anything, even though the prices were reasonable!
Wanted to go to a haunted house, and I didn’t mind the drive from Chicago. Stopped by downtown Naperville (which made the night even better!) headed out to the basement, and it was great! DJ was lit, staff easy. We started at 945ish (we had tickets at 10PM) we went through what felt like 70 rooms, I came out with a ton of adrenaline, look at my phone and thought we were there for 2 hours, it was only 30 mins. But it was worth the drive from Chicago, the trip from Naperville, and even wearing a mask. Glad management was able to coordinate things and stay open at a time like this. If you need something to do, GO HERE and downtown Naperville river walk.
This was my first haunted house I went to and I was not disappointed!! Would def go again!!!
Chicago’s best of the best! Basement Of The Dead nails it every year, there is no comparison.
Awesome experience, would highly recommend to any looking for a scare this month!
Really fun and a good time great set up really well made
Such a good experience! Will definitely go back!
OMG, family owed business that hosts scary events for Christmas, Valentines Day, Halloween, etc. They really put a lot of work in this place. I went for the first time this year and came out applauding! A Must Visit. Kept me jumping throughout the whole walk-through. I will be back and taking others with me.
Cattle shoot no spacing 6 ft groups just piled on each other just horrible
There was no social distancing and it was not scary at all WASTE OF MONEY !!! although disturbia was pretty sick just too bad it was so short!!!
It was an amazing experience!!!! Super organized during the pandemic
It wasnt as scary as we thought for general admission price. Too short for the $.
This place is AWESOME. 10/10!
Basement of the dead haunted house rocks! Me and a group of friends went this past weekend and had a great time even though it was raining. They do a great job of keeping everyone in line nice and dry. During your wait in line you are entertained to the nth degree with music and many costumed characters. The time seemed to flyby. Once you’re in the house or basement, there seems to be a scare around every corner. You can tell they put a lot of effort into making each room and corridor very detailed. The actors are very professional and do a great job of sneaking around and finding just the right time to jump out at you. Just when you think it’s over, there is a second hunt that is a psychedelic circus experience. You were 3-D glasses to get a full affect. It was awesome! They also have an escape room and other scary themed games you can play. I will say my group had a great time. It wasn’t just a haunted house, it was an experience.
Went here last night and absolutely loved it. Im not too much of a haunted house kind of gal but I will be returning. :) The actors outside are so friendly, funny and helpful. The actors inside were professional and spooky at the same time and my date and I had the best time. Looking forward to next year .. and the DJ was amazing. Got his card and will be hiring him for future events.
The 3d haunted clown house is unlike anything youve experienced before. The special effects are so realistic feels like theyre jumping out at you. Great value for the money which includes a second haunted house. The atmosphere leading up to the entrance makes the time pass quickly. Highly recommend!
Greatest haunted house ive ever been in.
Wasted of money NOT SCARY AT ALL 5 actors inside the first haunted house, one on the second one not worth at all
Worst haunted house I’ve been to, not scary at all waste of money
I went to their Valentines Day haunted house last night. The wait was over an hour for a 15 minute maximum experience. People who had already bought tickets were leaving after 30 minutes of barely moving in line, but I decided to stay to try get my moneys worth. Definitely not worth it. We were even going through the attraction fast at all. For the like, we would move about 6 feet every 20 minutes, which is unacceptable. I dont even know if this would be worth a 30 minute wait, honestly, since the house was so short. Out of all the haunted houses Ive been to, this wins for the longest wait and shortest experience.
Love working for basement of the dead
The best haunted house around. Highly recommend! Their costumes, staff & displays are all phenomenal! Definitely get your moneys worth when going here. Every time I visit this haunted house they have new additions. Theyre always unpredictable & I love it!
Tressa is the owner of this place and she is amazing. My sister and I went and after standing in line, making our way to the front, my sister had a panic attack so we couldn’t go. I asked the staff if I could return the tickets and they all directed me to talk to Tressa. She actually ended up giving me 2 free VIP passes so I can come back. She was amazing and the staff helped my sister with her panic attack as well. What a phenomenal staff. The haunted house was so worth the wait in line too. Great job guys!
I had so much fun. I will definitely be back.
