Wonderful historic original building and artifacts. I was fascinated with the original armaments and the terrific explanation/demonstration. Ditto the kitchen implements. I would go again.
A great place full of history that comes to life! The oldest still in use colonial building in the USA, and home to a number of historical items. A place where everyone of all ages can enjoy a great look back in time, and learn a great deal about how people lived in the colonies that became the United States. From how they made clothes and grew food, to tools and living spaces, as well as the weapons they used to defend themselves in battle. This is an awesome experience that I would highly recommend to all!! I enjoyed being there as a chaperone for my daughters second grade class field trip, and I hope to go back again this Summer to check out more of what they have at this amazing how e of history! Located right on the Kennebec River in Augusta Maine, and easy to get into from the main thorough fares. Well worth the price of admission, currently 10.00$ for adults, stop by if you can and be ready to learn!
Beautiful place to visit. Great walking trails. Very pretty to walk along the river and pass by the pond. Kids will love the play ground.
Our tour guide was absolutely excellent. Learned so many new things to make the andmission worth it twice over. Unassuming from the outside, but Im very happy I gave it a chance. Unique gift shop
Great piece of educational history and a guided tour of the grounds to interact with. Bring your friends
Interesting looking little fort, but visitors to the area are asked to pay an exorbitant fee for entrance. $10 per adult, $6 per child, to essentially step inside the fence and look in a single building.Meanwhile, a couple of blocks up the road you can visit the 4 story Maine Museum and see hours worth of exhibits for a tiny fraction of the price. Its unfortunate. Because if they had asked for $2-3 wed have paid it to support the upkeep even though wed have only spent 15 minutes here. As is, Im sure theyre turning away most visitors with the outrageous prices.Im sure thats the way they want it...
Good to be able to know alittle more about the history in the town you live in.
Oldest standing wooden Fort in continental america. National and state treasure.
Fun and affordable! The staff were amazing and answered all of our 5 year olds questions!
Well preserved history, see the State museum too while youre in town!
Our Family loves this place
This is not just a wood fort. lot to learn here. plus event and the staff is wonderful. will be back
A slice of colonial history right in the capital city of Maine, Augusta. Step back to the early 1700s, with lively storytelling, by caretakers in period clothing. Though not a huge place, by any means, there is plenty to see. The grounds are easy to get around, though the 2nd and 3rd story areas will be a challenge for anyone with mobility impairments. Price for a family of 5 is a fair 25, see the website for other detailed pricing. Definitely worth the time for a quick jump back into history.
Great replica of a Fort tgat reminds us of how brutal and tough life was on the frontier of early colonial America in northern New England.
Showed at 1:30 on a Sunday. Waited 45 minutes. Turned out that someone forgot to put up the back by sign. On some days at least the fort is seen by guided tour only. Be prepared to wait a bit if you go.That being said...It is well worth the wait. The historical and original central building alone is amazing.
Wonderful history lesson. Tour guides are very knowledgeable. Wheelchair ramp to first floor, but stairs for the rest. You get to touch many historical items. Awesome views.
Nice place to visit
Very cool place to see if your a history buff!
Fantastic tour! Ms Arnold was a wonderful guide. Worth visiting if you are in the area.
Our guide was outstanding! Her knowledge and humor made our day!
Read about it in local vacation guide and found it interesting. Guide was knowledgeable and well spoken. Fun side trip.
Well its the oldest wooden fort still standing in the USA, cant get much cooler then that!
Awesome guided tour of this little know treasure of history! Takes about an hour, great for kids! Lots to learn here, I was amazed!!!
Its pretty amazing even just to walk past while headed to nearby park and river trail with my fiancee. the reenactments are fun. must visit.
Staff was very informative
Love coming to their events and learning more of Maines history
Small fort but very interesting. People giving the tours are very knowledgeable about the former residence of the fort and how life was for them.
We had a lovely and educational visit to Fort Western today. The guided tour and staff were knowledgeable and willing to answer all kinds of questions.
This is a well preserved/restored fort/trading post that was very important in the history of the Plymouth colony in the 17th century. We stumbled upon it by accident and were tremendously impressed with the knowledgeable guide.
Great excursions
Was the best tour I have had. Good job Fort Western staff. Missy please thank our tour guide, I am sorry I dont remember her name. My grandchildren enjoyed everything especially when she included them.

If youre a history buff or enthusiast, this is a must stop in Augusta or if youre in Maine at all. Very cool information and Cody was a fantastic guide! You can tell that everyone there is very passionate about their job and the history behind it. Very cool.
Great place with lots of historic facts to learn about. Pleasantly surprised!
We had a wonderful guide who did a spectacular presentation.
They were very friendly and patient with our students. Great place for a educational field trip.
We were a little disappointed with this historic site. Its very small and not worth the price of admission. Unfortunately our tour guide was not the best. His knowledge of the Fort was lacking and many of his answers to questions were speculation.
This is the gem of the kennebec! Great historic site
Worth taking a tour and seeing how life was back then. Reenactments and dress of the era.
Great tour full of historic facts, presented in a fun and participating fashion.
Nice place for kids, my kid loved it. He went there on a field trip with his school, the fort tour was very informative. They allowed the kids to chop the woods. All in all he had a fun day. Thanks to the wonderful staff who made his day.
