July 2018 not much to see YET!! The most amazing part of this site is the ranger who grew up in Ghana and lived I the prisons where Harriet Tubman’s ancestors would have come from. The original people running the site couldn’t do it alone so they are combining with the national parks but they are renovating her house so get very it a few years and then it will be way worth it. Don’t get me wrong it was an amazing find and awesome experience but in a few years it will be way way better. The tour was really a bit long for my kids, and we didn’t make it in to the hospital because they were hot and tired.
This attraction, which is right off the road a short drive form downtown Auburn is made up of a Visitors Center and two houses. One house, once a refuge for the elderly, can be visited as part of the guided tour. The other, Harriet Tubmans home, is currently being renovated. The Visitors Center is just steps from the parking lot. Make it your first stop to pay for the guided tour and get practical info for your visit. If you can, I suggest calling ahead to ask for tour times, so you can plan your visit accordingly. There were a couple of people who showed up during our visit but missed the last tour of the day. While waiting for the tour to start, you can check the exhibitions on the courageous and no-nonsense Ms. Tubman and learn about the extraordinary life she lived and the struggles she faced. How she managed to live to 90, despite all the challenges life threw at her, just makes her all the more remarkable! You will leave with such a tremendous admiration for her.The tour leaders, a very lively and friendly couple, did an excellent job of telling the story of Tubmans life in colorful detail. The house currently open to tour is small but worth a visit. Parking is plentiful.
Very informative, historical and sentimental this place was great. At presents the hospital part of the tour is closed down for renovations but the saucer is a cheaper admission price of five bucks for adults $3 for seniors and college students and $2 for children I think its probably double that when the fault or is open beautiful restorations and we had a particularly informative and eloquent tour guide. I highly recommend it.
Great tour guide, gave lots of details of her life. $5 entrance fee adults, $3 for kids 6 and up.
A place to see where Harriet lived. Remarkable and everyone who has a chance to visit should see it.
It was enjoyable & Park Ranger Jessica Bowes is amazing! Shes vibrant, knowledgeable, passionate about Harriet Tubman & her life & her history. I felt connected to Harriet Tubman even more & Im a little disappointed at the tour I thought it would be a tad bit longer but I know where Im going now so I can visit anytime I want. This was needed & it was a good day & trip. I highly recommend it for everyone especially us African-Americans. Its rich to know more about your culture because it unlocked your future.
This was an exceptional tour. I learned a lot about Harriet Tubman as well as living conditions of the time she was in. There were a lot of vintage pieces and you really got a feel for how people lived at that time and what she had to go through to manage her life. Definitely worth a visit.
It was great to see where she lived and to learn things about her life I hadnt heard before
An amazing tribute. Would love to see more African American millionaires contributing to the restoration and preservation of this historical landmark treasure.
Finally we went to see where and how Harriet Tubman, a champion of freedom lived and work. It is a small museum with very knowledgeable people about the facts of Mrs Tubman, and plenty of joy telling the audience about it!
Nice historic grounds and tours. Also nice museum.
After finding out more about this woman I can see why they wanted to put her on the twenty dollar bill.
Tour guide is very entertaining and informative. Great tour.
The tour is a presentation and a house tour. Really excellent presentation by the curator. Everyone should see what this amazing woman achieved!
I arrived here an hour before it was posted to be closed (both on Google Maps and their official website) but they had a sign posted that they closed earlier, which was so unfortunate as its a six hour drive from where I live in NY. I only got to see the outside of the original Harriet Tubman home, the outside of the visitor center and her actual home. They were lovely but it would have been nice to be able to learn about while touring, too.
It is a wonderful place to visit and park ranger Kim was great
Narrator was very interesting with a sense of humor.
Amazing woman, great history lesson from guide.
My family and I loved it
Very awesome experience. Harriet Tubmans home has been preserved beautifully. The caretakers Reverend and Ms Carter are lovely people who I have the pleasure of knowing personally. The tour are every hour on the hour.
Amazing to see and hear about things they dont teach you in school.
Great historical place to visit. Things u find out thats not in ur school books. Its expanding & upgrading so every few yrs go back to see the changes
The guide was a wonderful storyteller!
Was closed when we went. Its either under construction or in really bad shape. Very disappointed that such an important landmark was so poorly cared for.
Every American should visit here.
What a fantasric look at the path of pain created by white oppressors. The struggle for equality must go on.
