BEHIND THE SCENESIn my opinion, Smart People could have examined the true essence of how racism began to educate the audience, which would have brought more inquisitive remarks or questions after the play. In my personal opinion, I feel that Ms. Diamond might think that she is identifying racism through these stereotype characters that I feel should have shown something different. The economically fortunate, well-educated and highly accomplished students from Harvard characters do not portray in-depth the real reason of racism but the only side that is always known or stated that the issues come from the white race, which my father has always stated that it is in their blood which is more to it than that.The origins of racism are not ideology but an institution that is not in human nature but originated in the slave trade and capitalism. Past history has shown that the ancient Roman and Greek societies had no perception of race or racial oppression. It was not racially based which the Roman, Egyptian, and Greek societies had a favorable image of African societies. The novel Capitalism and Slavery, by the historian Eric Williams stated, “ Slavery was not born of racism; rather, racism was the consequence of slavery.” Africans would have been the first group of people to be enslaved if racism had been existed prior to the slave trade. As you are aware that the colonists attempted to enslave Native American Indians and they imported thousands of white indentured servants that were treated like slaves, bought, and sold.With all that has been stated the chief sources for the opening growths of wealth that thrust capitalism forward in North America is slavery. The rich slave-master used mind control on the minds of the poor whites from the truth that slavery was profitable to the well bred and richest people. The Jim Crow’s and Willie Lynches did more than slavery ever was done to any race. The bio-chemical of shifting of the black mind during traumatic process of breaking the black slave has never before on any nation’s history has this method of scientifically and executed method of mind control on any group of people before African slaves. The physical anatomy of the black man and women for four centuries of intentional outrageous shocking of the neurological system is in question.The friends (characters) in Smart People could have reflected real issues to Brian on his research dealing with racism by making points of what was regarding in the above reference matter. Racism was factually invented and is not some unchangeable human nature but to establish institutions and ideas that would maintain white supremacy. The ideas and laws emphasize the subhuman position of African American people through the ideology of racism and white supremacy that has been prevalent through today.These are the debates that could have been address to awaken the audience in thinking it is not what we think racism is all about. We as society have all been brainwashed. These two sources of racism and capitalism are bonded together since the foundation. My next opinion is that I feel that the characters were not really known in depth. What is the central conflict to composed the action? The cast made strong impressions and the sex scenes dealt with cultural and race arguments so good-bye love affairs with meaning and discussed race and class misconception of what it really is that is not discussed in this play. I liked the stage settings in changing by coming in and out and for the characters addressing an unseen second person could be alleviated by the audience hearing that person through the overhead PC which would have been different but I guess not permissible. The points that Ginny talks about the other races that is left out (Really). No other race has subdued what African Americans is still going through as a race. There is no comparison to address or bring up. Through watching this play I did enjoy it regardless of my PERSONAL thoughts.

So. My friend bought tickets for us to see Nina Simone: Four Women. It was to be a real treat because we are both older and disabled and getting around is a challenge. I have a new car so this was to be our first outing. She called the box office, let them know we would need accessible seats and parking. He said because the purchase was Sio close to the performance date, he would hold the tickets at the Will Call window. He have her the True Colors address, which she wrote down and gave to me. I commented that it was close to our favorite restaurant so we could plan for dinner after.Only this wasnt the case at all. He mistakenly have us the True Colors Theater office on theother side of town. It was close to curtain by the time we found the way into the place at the King Plow Center only to find the notice saying the play was at the Southwest Arts Center, 30 minutes away. We turned our walkers around, got back into the car called the box office and drove there only to find a full parking lot (of course) with directions to park around the other side of the building because all spaces including the handicapped ones were full. Gladly the officer allowed me to park in front as there was less than an hour left to the show. We were accommodated with two seats in the very back as we were very late and the show was half way over.Im disappointed that we missed much of the play. We are both familiar withthe story and love Nina Simone. It would have been a joy to see it in its entirety. The set was beautiful. The lighting and sound were lacking. It was funny and touching. The actresses were good. While their voices were OK, no one sings Nina like Nina. That said, I would have loved to see the whole show.
