Not very crowded. Good 1 + mile walking path that is well groomed. You can walk it several times for longer distance. And over 6 wide for easy passing and social distancing. Nice mix of wooded and grassy areas with some easy hill terrain. Follows the lake on the western turn of the trail.
This forest preserve is part of the immense Lake County Forest Preserve system. This particular preserve consists of two, non- contiguous sections; this one on Rt 45 is the eastern section. The other section, Raven Glen West Forest Preserve, is on Rt 173 just east of Deep Lake Road. This eastern section has two large fishing piers, and a very long trail, part of which extends to Miller Road. If you like fishing, this is a great spot. However, I prefer Raven Glen West for hiking.
Very nice preserve with varied terrain. Beautiful woodland grassy path off the main trail.
Excellent walking trail! Very nice equestrian trails and horse trailer parking. Part of the site has lots of mature trees, Id say half. Beautiful trees! The rest of the trail is more like prairie, but also very nice. If youre walking a dog in summer be mindful of that. Timber Lake is beautiful and there are two fishing docks. The water near the docks is no more than 3-4 feet deep and some areas have a fair amount of lily pad cover. Struck me as a place that might be good if youre fishing with something weedless. Top water lures would probably be good, too. Panfishing is likely pretty good. Besides the main walking trail and the equestrian trails there is an outstanding woodland walking trail. Nice parking lot and primitive toilet with hand pump for water. Very clean, located on Hwy 45 just south of IL Rte. 173.
You can do the entire trail which is 4.2 miles round trip or the first half which is 2.4 miles round trip. Love the different scenery-
Nice long trail for hiking or biking
Nice place to go for a nature walk with to see the leaves changing colors.
Lovely trails, beautiful lake!Fantastic find
Beautiful Preserve. Lots of different scenery. Not too crowded.
Was a very nice trail, nice and clean great walk
Very nice forest preserve has a nice small picnic area a lake with a fishing pier very nice.
Nice trail with 2 piers each with built in seating and a clean lake with good fishing. Also has a public restroom near the parking area.
Nice small park with woodland trail as we as a trail to a small lake. There is also a trail to ride your horse.
This place is spectacular for its breathtaking beauty. It so serene, how can anyone not find inner peace within themselves when taking a walk through these trails. My favorite is sitting at the dock and enjoying the beauty of this water Lilly filled lake. Perhaps not many people know that this forest preserve was once known as Timber lake campground. It was as beautiful them, and having the thrill of knowing this place then and now fascinates me.
Easy trail offering just under 3 miles a f you walk the entire thing including the forest loop
Great place to head for short walks around a pristine environment.
A great preserve. Hike is around 2 miles. Easy terrain. We like to stop at the lake for awhile.
Nice trail in woods, nature wonderland. Lake is very pretty and serene.
Good short loop. Would like to try fishing when weather warms up.
Wide limestone paths which go close to a small lake. Great place to take a walk as it is so peaceful.
Absolutely stunning views and nice clean trails. I love riding my horse here. Very relaxing. I also love riding by the water.
Paved parking, Non-flushing toilets, gravel/sand walkways that are well maintained but definitely muddy when the snow melts.
Great trail-in 2 parts-you can do the 1.2 mile or add another 0.9 miles to your trip. You return the way you walk out so this could be a 4.2 mile round trip, so if you love a little longer walk I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND it!!
Its an outstanding place to hike.
The fishing docks sucked and there isnt a path to fish around the lake, and u can only put a boat in the water if u live on the opposite side. Not to mention the water is pretty shallow by the one dock and both docks are surrounded by lilly pads to thick to cast through without having to worry about losing your lure.... Bring 50lb braid if u plan fishing here
Tons and tons of butterflies
Where its the big lake??
Nice and you also can breathe fresh air
Nice scener
Beautiful place, nice lake and also the walking trail. Good enough parking.
Greta place for long walk
Nice peaceful place to walk. Mostly gently rolling hills. Crushed gravel path. Garbage cans and benches placed sporadically along the path. Only about 15% of the path is tree covered, the rest is out in the open. There is a lovely lake and dock with beautiful views if you want a rest. The primary loop is 1.1 miles but if you take the spur to Miller Road and back you can add another 1.1 miles. At the parking lot they have picnic tables, an outhouse, a post to hitch your horses, and an old fashioned hand water pump.
BEAUTIFUL area with a trail and plenty of forest to relax in.
Nice run!
Love the trails
Beautiful hiking trail, but wish it connected to the other side of Raven Glen.
Nice peaceful place to hike on a sunny day
Raven Glen is a great Forest Preserve. Well kept clean. Just a great place to spend some time
Nice walk no hills or slopes. Fishing is sub par
Great area to spend extra time. Walking the trail my wife and I spooked a deer that was, napping I assume, laying down in some tall grass. The deer, 30 feet away, which was hidden by the tall grass jumped up and gave us a good shock to the old ticker. We had a stare off for 5 mins before it galloped off in the opposite direction. Youll see all kinds of birds from small finches to large cranes. And Landscape is another thing to keep your eye occupied. It is very tranquil area to spend time, recenter yourself, then take on the rest of the day
Find your peace here
Short and hot hike. Interesting boardwalk. There are better places to hike.
Great trails and clean
Lovely place to walk, especially the Compassionate Friends loop dedicated to our local children who have passed from life too soon.
Leased cabins, electric, indoor plumbing, lakefront, boating/swimming/fishing docks. West side of lake.
Great walk and great place to get free mulch. Thank you LCFP.
I went hear when I was a kid we used to camp there and now it is a great park and will continue going there I talked today to a park ranger she was so kind we should all thank them for keeping are parks safe and fun there the reason I always get to enjoy the forest and parks and I cant thank them enough so thank you so much for everything you do for us
Hiking, biking and riding trail. Fishing piers, too.
Beautiful place for a family walk!
Heard a lot of gun shots!
Dont miss out on the beauty of walking a trail in the forest preserve
Nice place to go for a walk or run was on the north trail with access off of IL. Rt 173 didnt see facilities for camping, cooking out or picnics. There were rest rooms at the trail head, trail Is hard pac not dirt.
Great place to explore nature
Nice small tail to go and just drag your feet on. Short but still nice to just get away and chill.
Get place for a nice quite walk. If you have horses they have trails.
Nice trails for running, good for walks, nice to stretch your legs and your dogs too.
Great bluegill fishing, just one drawback. One fishing pier has too many lillies
There used to be a camp grounds & farm on the property. The farm fed many people and the campground had hundreds of people on week days and more on weekends. Now that our tax dollars bought it I would doubt even 100 people visit a week. Not a win for anyone!
I will never stop loving this park.
Fantastic place to walk and get fresh air.
Great place to take a walk
Great for horseback riding and hiking
Beautiful and peaceful.
Nice trail to run and bike on
