Thor Evensons current retrospective is highly recommended for a rich and in depth art experience rarely encountered in Anchorage. This small room at the International Gallery contains a packed display of this talented and versatile artists lifetime of fascinating painting, drawing, sculpture, and architectural design. There is realistic and abstract work and everything in between as this artist experimented with everything his hands touched from acrylics, watercolors, pen and ink and graphite drawings, mixed media and found objects-others garbage. The subject matter ranges from Europe to Seattle to the Kenai River. There are fascinating small drawings of European portals and large colorful acrylics of the life in Cook Inlet commercial salmon fishing by this highline fisherman-artist. The range is impressive and amazing. You will be delighted. Missing are his coveted doodles and cartoons, and any evidence of a further skill: his commercial boat designs and museum quality boat models. His boats are the beauties of the Cook Inlet fleet, a sculpture from every angle as he put his well-realized intention. But how much talent can you pack into this small space?! You will be richly rewarded with a visit.
