This company isnt going to harm any part of Bristol Bay, idk who the ignorant person was who said it would but they need to leave Alaska. This is a great business and will attempt to do its beat to help the economy around it.
From my research there is much opportunity here. The feasibility of this mine has been studied and the environmental impact can be mitigated with technology and proper planning.
This mine will be the most environmentally-conscious mine ever built. The PLP is working with the USACE and the EPA to ensure it! If you don’t like it, I guess you can go back to the Stone Age. The opposing opinions here lack any substance or reasoning while the government agencies are using science-based research and studying every facet of the proposed mine’s footprint to minimize the effect on the environment. The company has held fast through illegal attempts to block the mine because they know they are justified and will prevail.
Pollution bad. Salmon good.
What a well run organization. Management at PLP has done an excellent job creating a mine plan that will coexist with the amazing environment in that area. They are also working to create full-time jobs and other advancements to improve the quality of life for the people who live and will work at the Pebble mine.
This could be one of the best things to happen to Alaska since Prudoe bay and I’m sick and tired of all the people saying it’s going to hurt the SALMON!! we have terrible salmon runs in Bristol Bay RIGHT NOW!!This year the Kings didn’t even show up in big Numbers!!all the other salmon are diminishing also, why don’t People who are against Pebble put their money where their mouth is and find out today why Alaska is losing salmon every day!! it’s NOT because of PEBBLE mine! Pebble has not started 1 Hole yet!!They will be good for jobs and the economy for the state of Alaska!! GO PEBBLE!!!
It seems like all those against the development of the copper and gold mine in Alaska should ask themselves are the going to give up every device that uses copper and gold. It would be reasonable to conclude that they are perfectly fine in having a copper and gold mine in someone else’s backyard but not theirs. It’s ok to destroy someone else’s environment for the ease of their own life, but when we have one in our backyard no way. So if your fine with the copper and gold you use to make your life better, send an apology letter to the third world country you destroyed for using that which came from their backyard.Myself on the other hand want it in my backyard so I know exactly how it was mined. Under the strictest laws and regulations that we can muster to enforce it is done the right way. I believe it can be done right, that the choices we as a society make for the convinces we all enjoy comes with a price. Yes there are places on this earth that will be impacted by the choices we make, that is a fact. Are you saying one part of the earth is more important than another? Is the ecosystem in one part less important than another? The double standard is blatantly evident, the copper and gold in my life is ok as long as it’s not from my backyard.
Pebble is located on baring wasteland that is over 100 miles from Bristol Bay. The benefits of Pebble Mine outweigh the greedy majority outsider owned fishing community of Bristol Bay. The Iliamna Community will finally have well paying jobs, improvement in local economy and infrastructure, much needed state revenues, cheaper utilities, lower cost of living, improved school systems, and most importantly- the preservation of community, family, and culture. “Pebble will not harm Salmon- USACE”.
I’m sure they’re a fine company but Alaskans do not need nor want a giant open-pit mine jeopardizing the World’s greatest salmon runs. The gain to a Canadian based company at Alaska’s expense is a poor trade. Gold has always made people short-sighted. Trading 20-100years of mining for an eternity of salmon is a fools-gold promise.
Great innovative company. Ron is a sincere and honest guy! They are going to help the Alaskan economy once they get the mine built. 800+ $100k a year jobs for the citizens. Salmon and mining can co exist. Envirotards need to stop judging this company based off their feelings and what Joel and the corrupt NRDC says. I 100% support this company and what they are trying to accomplish. Thank you! MAGA!
Im a avid hunter and fisherman for 50 years or more. I have studied modern mining methods. The mining methods now used and the technology used to treat the water discarded has vastly improved. I believe these technologies should be used to gain the economic advantages from the copper and minerals. It will help the struggling local economy in the Bristol bay area. I have hunted there and spent time with the natives in King Salmon. These people need a source of income to help them with their lives! The salmon industry has diminished with dropping salmon numbers. I love this earth as much as the most idealistic environmentalist there is. I also know poverty and government assistance. Alaska needs to be able to use its resources to help its people. I respect and believe in preserving the environment. Although I believe the carefully orchestrated protesting by the environmental groups has gone too far. The pictures of past mining disasters they show in their presentations to scare you do not accurately reflect modern mining practices.
DEIS says it can coexist and be developed responsibly.
The employees of this company should be ashamed of themselves. Destroying an area the size of Manhattan for generations just to make some money right now...despicable. Wouldnt be surprised if this company renames and rebrands itself to avoid the negative publicity. Enjoy Alaskan salmon while you can. Pebbles corruption is about to destroy it. And dont buy their jobs pitch. By destroying the streams connected to this area, thousands of locals and native populations will lose their way of life. Disgusting.
Soon to be home to the greatest mining deposit on u.s. Soil equipped with a tailings dam capable of withstanding the largest earthquake ever recorded.
Bristol Bay is the single LARGEST and MOST VALUABLE salmon fishery in the entire world. The last three seasons straight have been among the largest catches in history. There are 2,000 separate permitted gillnet businesses that account for tens of thousands of crew and processing jobs. This is the worst place in the entire world for a heavy metals open pit mine.Real Alaskans understand and support sustainability. This place is too important to mine.Oh, and MAGArs, Pebble isnt even an American company. The recent push by EPA to move this project forward is corruption at the highest level.
The Pebble Project should be allowed to go through the permitting process like every other developer. We will have a tough time convincing other developers to explore and invest in Alaska if their investment could be lost before getting to the table.
These are the facts. You cant propose be doing a good thing to create jobs when it will potentially cost the state of Alaska its biggest salmon run.Pebble mine has become a deeply contentious issue in Alaska, largely due to the project’s environmentally destructive potential. The mine, which would be one of the largest in the world, is proposed for a copper, gold, and molybdenum sulfide deposit on Alaska’s Bristol Bay. The region is known for its wild salmon populations: Bristol Bay is home to the world’s largest sockeye salmon fishery, and chum silver and king salmon also run through the area. In July, the Environmental Protection Agency proposed to protect Bristol Bay, rather than allow mining to take place there.“Bristol Bay is an extraordinary ecosystem that supports an ancient fishing culture and economic powerhouse,” Dennis McLerran, Regional Administrator for EPA Region 10, which includes Alaska, said in July. “The science is clear that mining the Pebble deposit would cause irreversible damage to one of the world’s last intact salmon ecosystems. Bristol Bay’s exceptional fisheries deserve exceptional protection….simply put, this is a uniquely large mine in a uniquely important place.”Mining in Bristol bay would create up 10.8 billion tons of waste rock, and massive dams would be required to store the liquid waste tailings from the mine. In January, the EPA released an assessment of major mining in Bristol Bay that found that, if a tailings dam failed in the region, it could wreak havoc on the surrounding ecosystem. The agency also found that a mine project like Pebble could destroy up to 94 miles of streams and 5,350 acres of wetlands, lakes and ponds.
The short sighted actions of this company will result in irreparable damage to the fragile eco-system in Alaska. Unforgivable.
Environmentally hostile
#yes
The pebble mine will help this economy
Worse mining companies ever
Dont buy gold from them. Its cursed by the oncoming death of millions of native souls. Salmon and people live in Bristol Bay. Well, for now (TBD)
