This park is one of the nicest public spaces in Story County. Extensive and well-maintained walking trails encircle the entire lake and there are nice green spaces everywhere. People often fish, kayak, and canoe on the lake itself. There is adequate parking and its an easy park to get to - just off of Grand Ave/Hwy-69 on the northern edge of town.
Great park for a run, to ride bike, or a leisurely stroll. The side paths make for great light hiking. The figure 8 design of the main path makes many options for a run and if youre training for any distance its great. The bathrooms are nice for a park. The water tasted like water, not pipes.
Love the paved path for biking and walking. The shelter house even has flush toilets and sinks you just need to bring your own soap and towels.
Beautiful, friendly, just a great place to go and relax or walk, jogg, ride bikes and kayak. A++ Clean and next to Walmart for a quick picknick.
Love the walk park. I only gave it 4 stars because some of the trees are small yet, therefore not giving enough shade on a hot sunny day.
Beautiful green space in Ames. A nice trail for biking/walking and a great kayak lake!
Nicely maintained. Great path for running.
Great park for fishing and kayaking, just wishes it had more of a natural shaped
A beautiful park with long walking trail. It can get very busy on nice days. You can kayak in the water, too.
Most beautiful and enjoyable place in Ames. It has a path about 3 miles long that weaves around the lake. It’s my favorite place to run at, especially in the morning, because the sunrises are incredible and the amount of bird activity here is serene. A great place for all people!
This is a beautiful place to spend quality time with my husband on his birthday
Fun place to walk around and let your dog get exercise
Pretty park for walking and paddling if youre in Ames
Beautiful views and scenery. Lots of open space and good paths.
Decent option if you can get out on the water. Jax is out there with for rentals of kayaks and a canoe. Lifejackets included. Fishing is ok for little kids along the shore line but I havent gotten a chance to cast out in the deeper areas so no comments on that.
Very serene but also there after dark
Very good place to walk/run close to nature.
Great trails, and good for water activities like kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. Swimming is not allowed though.
This is my favorite place in all of Ames, Iowa! You have to see the sunrises and sunsets here. Especially when the lake is frozen over. Pure delight. I love to walk my dog here in the morning and watch the geese and deer. The trails are amazing and go on for miles and miles. They have beautiful hills and trees and fields. In the summer it is so fun to kayak the lake. When my friends and family came in town they couldnt believe we have such a beautiful park right here in Ames.
Great walking and bike trail. Good fishing and lots of canoeing.
Great place to kayak or walk. Nice trails!
As expected. Need ice or a boat for the good fish.
Very beautiful with lots well maintained paths and tables! Lots of geese poop though, although theres not too much you can do about that
Great place to go on a walk, bike ride, etc. Fairly heavy foot traffic but very nice.
Pretty nice area for a first date picnic and scenic walk!
Great fun family outdoor place.
Great paths. Beware the geese.
Such a great place! Nice place to go for walks. Enjoyable views across the lake. Theres lots of wildlife and its a really nice family-friendly spot. You can take a couple of routes around the lake and have different distances 2-4 miles. Theres also a bridge that you can walk across. People are often out on little (non-motorized) boats and fishing from the shore.
Great park! Beautiful bike path, wildlife and water! Kayak here often and try to fish. Not much luck but always enjoy getting out here!
Great lake views and trails
Well kept. Can get pretty busy.
This place is soo cool
Beautiful sanctuary with lake and hiking trails
Good for walk and fishing!
A former gravel quarry for decades, this park has been created around 2 side-by-side lakes that are each probably half a square mile in size. These lakes are very deep in some areas. There is a trail of asphalt that goes all the way around each lake for biking, walking, jogging etc.The view are spectacular at sunrise and sunset. There is a small pavilion covering 8 or 10 picnic tables and an equal number on the concrete patio adjacent. There are clean, modern, public bathrooms that are wheelchairaccessible. Wheelchair accessible entire park even a dock. There is no swimming or beach area because it is sheer rock walls that drop right off about 4 feet from shore. The fishing is hot and cold. There are a lot of fish in the lakes Lg Mouth, Sm Mouth, channel cat, perch, trout, bluegill, sunfish, and reports of fish way down where the lake is 300 feet deep that are the size of Volkswagens. Happy fishing.
Fantastic place for birding, walking, bicycling, and seemingly fishing (which I speculate from the sometimes dozens of people fishing when I come here). Nice paved paths, a bathroom at the parking lot and another halfway along the outer trail. There are informational signs along the paths as well to provide geographical history and wildlife information. Absolutely love coming here
Lake and walking trail plus Pokestops. Whats not to love?
Beautiful park. Nice trails.
Very nice place to visit.Winter season is obviously not for outing but in summer you can should plan to visit with your buddies to enjoy the Boating in Lake.Very lush greenery in summer.Visit hours must be kept in mind before scheduling the program.Boating charges are normal, even less than many other places.Groups of friends as well as family members, will definitely enjoy the trip.
An amazing place with awesome trails, beautiful scenery and ample parking.
Great placec to walk hike rellax outdoors
Fantastic scenic walk trail. Has multiple routes to take and generally other walkers and cyclists are very friendly
Always a nice place to go for a nature-adjacent walk.
Had a blast Ice Fishing with Daniel today
Wildlife is welcoming and the trails are easy to ride and walk on.
Its so beautiful here, winter, spring, summer and fall. Wide open, safe for females, lots of parking, picnic areas, canoe and kayak, snow shoe rental at Jaks outfitters.. Nearby. Plus Ames has great local eateries. Try The Cafe (local seasonal menu), Burgies (locally roasted coffee) and Great Plains Dough and Sauce Co (can you say college town pizza?). To name a few....
Great place for non-motorized boating, fishing, hiking and more.
Ada Hayden is an absolutely beautiful place. The trails are great for a nice walk through nature. Even just sitting on the swing my the lake in the morming is so relaxing there.
Great views, lots of trails. It great to come out here and have lunch or take animals for walks. Lots for friendly people. They have great fishing also.
Really nice, great place to walk or jog. It would be better if it had fountain facility.
A wonderful place for outdoor activities: jogging, walking, biking, roller blading, ice fishing, fishing, dog walking etc. Many different walking paths, routes.
It would be nice to have a few more shady spots
Great walking options around a beautiful lake
Beautiful spot with walking trails. The geese and ducks there were so beautiful.
Its very pretty, almost wheelchair accessable, and there are lots of ducks and deer
Very pretty. Nice place to visit. Public restrooms. Saw people in kayaks and fishing. Lovely walking and biking trails with markers to keep track of distance.
Plenty of parking; found a bench (plenty to choose from) and sat with my friends to watch the beautiful sunset on the water. Nobody was disruptive. It was incredibly peaceful. Wonderful park (:
Its just an all around great place for walks, runs, biking, kayaking, canoeing, pets allowed. Great for wildlife too!
Great for walks lots of room, plenty of distance, great views.
Its an amazing place to go and great for fishing
If you want to walk over the lake you can jeje
This park is beautiful and love coming here to walk.
Nice large place for casual jogging, fishing etc. Family friendly place. In winter, one can come here to see fresh snowfall.
We went there and are going back with a different person yet the nature is well preserved park with all to do necessary with family, young and old you will truly enjoy the birds and prairie plants. I also recommend Raimen garden
Always so beautiful and relaxing.
Beautiful area, great for a peaceful walk, plenty of benches and pubic tables. Lots of public fishing areas .
Nice place to relax and unwind.
Ada Hayden never disappoints. The figure eight entails you can do a quick jaunt around or you can do the full loop.
Best place to walk and bike hands down. Paved path all of the way around the lake. I think the big loop is a formal 5k, but its also a great place to play, picnic, explore, fish, and hike. I used to roller blades here frequently when I was in college at ISU.
Very neat park with nice trails and nature and wildlife! It also has a nice lake with awesome fishing
Beautiful peaceful place to walk, jog, ride your bike, skate board or roller blade. I love taking my children for walks here.
Biking, walking, rollerblading paths; fishing, small boating possible.
Always lovely to visit- best walking path.
I kayak and inline skate here regularly. The water and trail are both great. Lots of Iowa plants and wildlife (I scared a deer off the trail today) and various historical markers around the trail. Just dont lose anything in to the water... it gets deep fast.
Beautiful park and awesome hiking! Havent tried fishing yet, but next on my list.
A lovely park to spend time outdoors. During the day, therere enough people to feel safe, but not feel crowded.
Best place to run&ride in Ames
Great place to people watch in ice fishing season.
A nice get away, right on the edge of town.
Great place to catch rainbows
There is amazing place!
