A very accessible and didactic museum with a large and beautiful collection of Mimbres pottery and in-depth explanation of the archeological process. Count a couple of hours, and a bit more for the temporary exhibits. Worth it. Parking sounds scary but is actually simple as the museum attendant provides you with a pass on arrival.

Now this is a wonderful experience for young and old. I love history and this was full of information and exhibits for all to enjoy. Great art and photos everywhere you turn. A really great way to show your children and all who attend our lovely Southwest area.

First rate introduction to the prehistoric archaeology of New Mexico as seen from the perspective of the UNM researchers. However there is no mention of the Sandia Cave controversy (see Douglas Preston in The New Yorker). In addition there is a Chinese porcelain exhibition. The museum also has a temporary exhibit on English attempts beginning in the late 1700s to produce Chinese quality porcelain.

The Maxwell Museum of Anthropology is a hidden gem in the city of Albuquerque! It is located in the heart of the University of New Mexico and is a pure delight for anyone with an interest in archeology, evolution, or the history of the Southwest. The recommended donation is only $5, and the place is more than worth the cost.

Stumbled upon the museum with a friend and thoroughly enjoyed it. The museum is loaded with extremely old artifacts and information to supplement them.

Really like the Maxwell! Have visited several times. Small enough to be manageable but comprehensive on NM archaeology. Pots galore. Free admission helps. Nice items in gift shop from local artists.

If you havent been here, they have free events all of the time. Educated staff, enough content to keep littles occupied for ~45 mins

..Undiscovered treasures in Albuquerque.. Ive done some research here 25 years ago.. Its a fun place.. For family.. It explores the history.. The culture... Of the Southwest[].. Anyone thats in town should make this one of the early stops. Truly outstanding

Small museum. But did a good job with what they have.

Solid museum. Yes, it is small, but has a nice degree of info that is specific to the state. The exhibits are also solid. An undiscovered gem, and a nice complement to the New Mexico Museum of Natural History nearby in Old Town.

The human origins section was excellent. It presented the information and facts in a great way. The temporary gun violence exhibit was also high quality. Overall, a great experience for a very low price (free - suggested donations only).

I was actually not in the museum I was attending a distinguished guest lecturer series put on by the anthropology department biannually. Its free to the public and extremely interesting I have no background in anthropology but I find these lectures fascinating. Check with the anthropology department and come out and enjoy.

So interesting. We walked around and saw as much as we could. Thank you to the helpful front desk for answering our questions. The displays are so curious.

A small museum with historical information and artifacts from the time colonists took native land. The Mexican Grey Wolf presentation and exhibit was very good.

Awesome small museum. Easy to get through in 45 minutes. But you can really dive deeper if needed. Parking is a pain.
