This was a great family trip. The zoo itself was a great walk, even with twin 1 year olds and a 4 year old. It was long enough without being too much for them. The variety of animals was perfect for small children though adults may have already seen some of the animals they have there.Outside of the zoo proper there is a nice sized playground for the children. While there were only a few things for the twins, my 4 year old had a constant supply of places to play. The day we went, they were running RC car races. This was a good way to wrap up the day. All three kids liked watching them make laps and jump the variety of hills put up.Needless to say, as a bonus to our trip, the kids all slept well that night.
Surprisingly good zoo for the size of the city. And other features like campground and playground were nice too
The park itself is beautiful amd well laid out. Lots to do.Check in for camping was easy, bathouse seems in good order and they have a tankless hot water setup that gets blistering hot if you let it.
We went out to book a Wedding in January. It was so beautiful. Cant wait.
Not many animals. They need our support folks. Staff is awsome... great place to bring sandwiches and relax outside of zoo area
Zoo is a little small, but the closeness to the various animals is worth it. Food is fairly priced for the portions.
Will not visit again. Hardly any animals to see. No animal shows. Grounds not kept up. A lot of money for a walk in the park. Extremely disappointed. Until they get it together we will not be back. I understand that hurricane Michael did some damage but in over a year something should have been accomplished. My goodness, poison ivy on the benches and rails, come on people. I will not waste my money there again.
Visited Chehaw Park today with my family it was a little cold but the animals seemed to love it. The zoo itself is very quaint without all the bells and whistles of a larger zoo. I personally loved it! The bathrooms are simple yet clean. Perfect place to take the kids to get away for the day.Features: The Zoo of course, camping area, Massive playground, Frisbee golf course, and tons more!!! Enjoy all my pictures...
Beautiful scenery but bathrooms and shower houses very run down. Old appliances being stored in same space. Camper camping area has what looks like permanent living the area is extremely junked up and filthy. Staff was very friendly and helpful at check in.
Very nice park where is so much to do - barbecue, walk, play disc golf, kid playground, splash pad... And mostly the zoo park. Amazing job guys doing all the repairs after last year storm. Loved the gators pond.
Park is quite nice. I booked a stay in their campground. The campground checkin and booking needs some major updating. They do not have a computer booking system so they really dont have a grasp on what and who is staying in campground. People at park entrance are responsible for checking and making reservations yet they know almost nothing about the campsites. They have both full hookups with sewer and without but it seems no matter when you call or when you want to reserve there are never any sewer hookup available. There is a dump station available. I have been coming here for years and one thing I have noticed is now there are several permanent monthly units there with a good bit of general clutter around them making the campground pretty junky looking. Big Rigs watch out there are ALOT of pine trees in the campground as well as around the perimeter drive.
I love Chehaw they have something for everyone. We’ve had birthdays here and just went to plat at the park or go to the zoo. The kids always love going here.
Still needs work from the storms but its a nice walk and animals are beautiful.
We all had a blast! Will visit again
I have been going here for 20 years and was very disappointed. I know with the virus they might not had the help they need. But the grass in the zoo needed cut and all the board walks need to be repair
It used to be a nice place to take the family. They really need to clean the place up. The tornadoes and tropical storm damage doesnt look like its been touched
Beautiful zoo, well worth the hour drive but, it has gone down significantly since I was a child. Some of the animals look malnourished such as the camels. When a camel consumes the emergency food supply, the hump will shrink and fall To one side. This has happened to one of the camels. Both humps are matted and slumped over. The alligator deck is a bit old and creeky. The woods around the zoo are overgrown. Its sad to think that this place and the animals have suffered. But I will be returning because they need the money & although it is one ticket once a month, I encourage more people to come. Perhaps we can all work together to restore its former glory.
Great family place very nice staff needs some upkeep and maintenance
They are cleaning it up nicely from last years storm. The paths are fine. Most of the animals were out and moving around.
There is nothing new and it is still a mess.
Park seemed to be nice but nothing was open except the zoo. It is mid February and a temp of mid 70s and no one in the park. Looks like they had some neat amenities for kids and adults. No swimming pool. A real nice disc golf course. Remote control track and a BMX track. Restrooms are available in different areas of the park.
Something for everyone there!!!! Camping is great!!! I play disc golf, and it has an awesome course!!!
Knowledgeable and friendly staff, beautiful, clean park, overall a very good experience for me and the kids
We loved tent camping at Chehaw. We camped during the week and tent camping was very quiet. We were one of three tents. There is electricity and water at each site as well as modest bathrooms and a shower. There is a lot of space to spread out and have your own quiet camp. In the park, there is a lot to do and I can see it being an ideal place for families with young children. If you are a mountain biker, this park caters to you! There are a few biking trials in the park as well some areas for walking (they are a little mild to call hiking). The camp is close to many areas to day trip too. We loved driving the two hours to Warm Springs to visits FDR’s Little White House. I highly recommend this quiet, quaint park.
This is an awesome park. Great disc golf course. The zoo is pretty sweet too. Fun place to camp. There is also a splash pad for summer fun. Lots of pavilions and a huge outdoor fireplace. Mountain bike and running trail as well. A real gem in the Albany area.
Blown away with how much fun it is here. We had no idea. Stayed an extra day. We van camped and played stellar disc golf, rode a beautiful and super easy, off-road mountain bike trail. Going to see a Remote Control car race! Christmas lights were being put up. Who knew. Families were having a great time. Electricity, water, old bath houses, but that kinda adds to the experience. Wish we had our boat. Late November, no bugs, great weather. Probably different in the Summer. Off to the Zoo!
I love bringing my daughter here. I used to visit as well when I was growing up. Reminds me of being a kid.
Great little spot for relaxing with the fam
I have taking my 2 year old son here for a few events, and he allows leaves with a smile. From the zoo to the play/splash area. Very kid focused and a great place for repeated visits.
I was excited to ride the bike trails however the trails arent mapped out. Not clear at all. I ride in Roswell, Blue Ridge, and many other awesome North Ga spots. I live in Albany so traveling up north EVERY weekend gets expensive. Looks like I may have to continue spending money smhI was the one who called about following the railroad tracks back to the main roadThat was also a bust....
Nice little park to take grand kids to have a little fun
Very laid back and easy to maneuver through. Park was lively and so was the bike track. Some of the zoo was not accessible and wish they would bring back feeding the goats and cows.
Immaculate rhinoceros! beautiful animals! however, to me, the animals did look liked they were aware that theyre trapped in cages. my daughters had a blast and it is a really good zoo ( from the outside looking in). only bad for me was the bats. the bat cage is super small.
I come here every time I visit Albany for the holidays! This is a great and affordable place to go when theres nothing to do, especially if you have young kids! Theres a spacious playground, disc golf, picnic areas, and a BMX track in the park. If youre going to visit the zoo, try to go earlier in the day, as the animals start winding down in the afternoon.
Awesome place to take the whole family
Very disappointing, over grown with bushes. Not enough animals to call them a zoo. It was an over priced nature walk.
There wasnt a lot of animals. But I got to feed the alligators .
Safe and fun for the kids
Awesome park and zoo. We loved feeding the gators.
Place was nasty. Poison ivy on seats. Cost is to High. For zoo and park . 2 seniors and 7 year old child. Almost 30.00 thirty dollars and they wonder why nobody goes to chehaw park.
This park is great for kids who love animals and are interested in animal habitats you get too also feed some of the animals and there is also an gift shop
Adorable small, nice staff and the women in the gift shop super sweet selling me Hoodies and tees
Great place to take children
We have a bicycle ride at Chehaw called The Nut Roll to sponsor Chehaw. Chehaw is a beautiful place to go spend the day or camp. They have a really nice zoo and many other things for the kids to do.
Absolutely loved this place. Lots of trails, places to play, a big, beautiful, old playground, bike trails, frisbee golf, and the cutest little zoo. 10 outa 10 will go again!
Beautiful place! Looking forward till next time that the Native American people swing by again. It was superb, entertaining, very educational!! Those people know, ( Native American), how to treat other people with respect, kindness, honor, and have a great since of humour. Cant wait until they visit next time!
My kids love this park.
Its a great place to just have Fun.
This place has a LOT to see. I went for the RC Racing and the family had an awesome time at the zoo and the water park. Its a lot more than we imagined.
Love seeing the wild animals and feeding the goats.
Between camping, the zoo, the splash pad, the HUGE playground, bmx track, trails, fishing....lawd, we didnt leave all weekend and still would have had plenty to do.Such a cool place with even so much more potential. They do seem to be struggling with storm damage and I guess funding, which is a shame because this place definitely deserves more then how it is being treated right now.
Love this park! I am excited whenever my husband says he has a race there. I enjoyed how peaceful it is and the nature was beautiful! I did not get a chance to go to the zoo there, but will be making a trip soon and will post pics. Deer roam thru without a care in the world, and my hunter husband was losing it! Lol I do wish that some benches or pic nic tables could be added by the lake so that you can sit and enjoy. Wonderful staff and was very pleasant and patient with all of our questions.
Beautiful animals! the rhino was something special. my family really enjoyed themselves. animals looked comfortable for the most part. however the bats seemed to be in prisoned andy daughters were expecting to see a Simba but theres no Lions in Albany. Definitely would go back again.
Went to the park with the kids and did a lil fishing!
This is the best zoo in Georgia but I am biased.
Love this place . We took our Grandson and we had a blast ..
Beautiful, natural park. Easy walk through the zoo. Concessions available. Kids play park is interactive and fun for kids.
We drove over an hour to bring our grandchildren . We were very disappointed . The storm from 11/2 ago hasn’t been cleaned up. There wasn’t 212 animals . The few we saw such as the cow, we could see his ribs. I don’t recommend this park to anymore. I’m not one to complain but this has horrible. I even asked for my money back and she refused to give it back. Other people we saw while walking felt the same way.
I have only really been here for disc golf but they say that the zoo is pretty nice. I also see a nice looking community center, bmx track and RC car track that look nice as well as some beautiful natural areas with spots for just hanging out/cooking. The playground is huge and awesome. The camping seems nice and I know many people who enjoy it very much.Disc GolfI really love this course. Good mix of open and wooded holes. Nothing super tight but you gotta hit your lines. Some elevation change also in play. If you have not played here you are missing out!
Fun for the whole family.
My family had so much fun at the Festival of Lights! Making smores, making memories.
Staff great still need help from strom
A great way to spend an afternoon
Great time at Chehaw wish the train ran during the week.
Loved this little what my son called mini zoo, you can get really close to the animals, everywhere feels just like nature not like a concrete zoo if it makes sense. When we went they were still recovering from a hurricane that had come thru the area and did a lot of damage to the park but my family still loved this little place in the middle of small town Georgia.
A wonderful way to spend a Saturday! I have read some of the reviews about only spending an hour in the zoo, overpriced, rundown, etc. Obviously, they didnt pay attention to their surroundings and event times. The Cheetah Run, feeding of the rhino, alligators, camels and the free tractor ride to the back 40 to see the zebras, antelopes, wildabeast, etc was great. My 2 teenagers enjoyed everything and often stayed behind us. They have a lot more animals than I thought. We will definitely return. =-)
Lots of fun things to see and do. Great disc golf course that is really nicely kept.
Awesome place respectful employees
Great family place
We came during the week and it was a very chill and nice place to tent camp. We had fresh water and electricity right next to our camp as well as bathrooms a short walk away.
Awesome little zoo
It is such an amazing zoo to be in the area that it is. The staff are so nice and they even did animal programs.
My children love going to Chehaw park. The playground is very big and fun. The zoo is nice, but could use a few updates and renovations. Its worth going to watch the alligator feeding. The train costs $3/person, but the Safari ride in the zoo is free and more fun!
Park with a small zoo inside. Kids will enjoy the animals. Website doesnt say but there is a place to buy snack stand food and snacks...chips and ice cream. Pretty cool playground and splash pad.
The park is nice, very friendly people but Im still waiting for a refund. I checked out of the park early and was promised a refund but Im yet to see a check or a credit to my account.
Great playground, campground is spacious in certain sites. Back areas of campground a little junked up from long term campers.
Good disc golf course, lots of facilities
Great zoo. Great park with camping and lodging. Really good pricing.
This park has many activities including a BMX bike track, mountain bike trails, campsites, a disc golf course, and a zoo with several exotic animals.
Great place.. I enjoyed my self an so did the family. Place needs more funding to make a lot of repairs. This place definitely deserves the help. With the experience. Just worries me the animals there arent being well fed.
We booked a pavallion at Chehaw for 50$ for the day. It was a day well spent next to the playground and splash pad. The pavillions are also first come first serve for free but we wanted to ensure we had one. Electricity was coordinated to be turned on. Overall our party of 40 enjoyed themselves and our daughters party was a success. Will upload pictures when I get them from the photographer.
Great family spot! Love the trails and the playground.
Had our wedding here. So beautiful, & Courtney made sure we had everything we needed.
It was a nice place to visit and the workers were friendly. However, the park seemed a bit run down and was in need of some repairs.
Great biking trails and camping.
Great place for rvs, dogs, hiking, zoo, ultimate frisbee, primitive camping, fishing, mountain biking, rc racing, bmx course, and more. Great priced. Although, there is no swimming anywhere. Very clean and safe.
Great playground
Kids play ground is always has the same unattended basic like a bolt in a swing or just minimal attention but no one seems to check those things....for months.
I love taking my kids here! They love everything from the zoo, to the playground. The splash pad is a great way to cool off on a hot day!
This little zoo needs some maintenance but the few animals they have are cool.
Fridays are field trip days in our homeschool. Since we were in Georgia, we decided to visit Chehaw. While much of the zoo is dated, and some things seemed to be shut down despite signs that led us to believe those features were still current, it was still pretty fun experience. My daughter particularly enjoyed the meerkats, lemurs, and cheetah. It seems like it was quite the zoo once upon a time. I only wish some of the exhibits were still running. At the very least, they should remove signage that leads people to believe they are.
Very nice area to do many things with Children. We camped for a week, fished, rode on the BMX track, Played frisbee golf, watched some guys at the RC racetrack, fished, played on a gigantic playground, went to the zoo and much more ... Entertained our three boys for hours on end without even leaving.
Not my favorite park but still a good place to get away with the kids.
My little ones absolutely love this place.
Great place, beautiful and amazing animals
Went to look at campgrounds. Not worth the drive.
Great outdoor area with a zoo, playground, and amazing disc golf course.
