The Albany Bulb is as much an outdoor modern art museum as it is a place to go for a walk. There’s a fair amount of graffiti of varying quality scattered about, but I was most impressed by the sculptures on the northern end of the bulb. Recommend sturdy footwear, as there are many opportunities to scramble a bit, and some of the works are close to the waterline that shifts with the tide.

Extremely cool place to take kids to explore or walk your dog. Albany beach is attached and dogs are allowed there as well. There are excellent views and the weather is usually great, def check the bulb out!

4 stars for the cool driftwood sculptures. Itd be less otherwise, as for the walk/hike itself is just a mount of broken concrete everywhere with mostly terrible graffiti all over the place. Trees are spray painted. Essentially everything that paint could stick on, it is on. Theres also a ton of political messages everywhere, your typical progressive talking points.

Great spot for off leash dog walking. Theres a paved path, multiple dirt trails, and a cove/beach area for the dogs to run and swim. We like it better than point isabelle because the beach is nicer and the park generally is not as crowded. Weve been going here for years and its always a favorite for me and my pups!

“Exploring the art in Albany Bulb was fun for one day trip since I’m living not too far from Oakland City.It is dogs friendly, and popular spot to explore (though there’s not enough parking space).A lot of great graffiti artists, wildflowers, pretty cool urban art towards to the end.It has many miles of hiking trails. ( I hiked a little over 2 miles).Hiking along with Albany Beach is very peaceful, I was able to see Bay Bridge, San Francisco Bay, Golden Gate Bridge, and much much more.I left a lot of footprints at the trail, and took home a lot of pictures.I will comeback when I’m in Berkeley.”

A beautiful place with a really cool mix of nature and man made aesthetics. Constantly changing, so you never know what to expect. A good place to leave wacky things you dont know what to do with but which might spark wonder for someone else. Its fantastic for exploring, making art, or a casual walk.

Albany Bulb is a fascinating but also sad place. The art work you see was mostly created by the self-governing homeless group who constructed shelters and art out of found materials. The city of Albany made them all leave but their art remains. There is two hour parking available and a public restroom at the entrance. Paths wind through the Bulb with stunning views of the Bay.

Awesome place to go for a walk and check out the sunset. If you get in the right spot, you can watch the sun go down directly between the pylons of the Golden Gate Bridge. Lots of salvage art and graffiti to check out. Great views of the bay, east to west.

I love this place, there is so much art to see and amazing views of the water and bridges. Some of my favorite art pieces are toward the far end where there are quite a few trash people not to mention the graffiti fort and the driftwood bench. There really is so much to see and some of the best art is off the main trails

Its coming into its own, bit by bit with newly added restrooms, some pavement and a restored beachfront. Otherwise l, its a nature reserve right out of a post apocalyptic movie with sculptures everywhere built from locally sourced construction dump materials. There are many birds big and small and this is a paradise for dog watchers, artists, friends and wanderers that are not afraid of fringe before it goes mainstream.

Incredibly strange, beautiful, and truly unique. It gets decently creepy at night, but definitely give this place a visit to see how the nature has grown back since the 1983 closure of this old dump site. So fun!

Weird, quirky, locally significant site.Youll find a small but quiet beach with good waves, and some rambling trails dotted with interesting graffiti, random art, and evidence of architectural elements discarded after the earthquake. This former landfill was once home to an encampment whose occupants built a somewhat primitive (but very artistic) community of houses, prior to shutdown by local authorities. A few of these small, colorful buildings are still standing, and youll stumble across remnants of various unsanctioned artworks if you wander around for a bit.Awesome for a laid-back day hike, though its been a bit crowded since COVID lockdown began. Parking is very limited - carpool if possible, and be prepared to walk a ways to get to the shoreline. Wear good closed-toe shoes, as there is rubble and rebar everywhere - and bring a jacket. Its very windy, even on sunny days.

Beautiful experience! Incredible views of the SF bay, buildings, bridges, skyline, fog banks, and shorelines. A wide variety of plants and wildlife inhabit, and visit this park. This island spit, or Bulb, is a perfect example of what kind of creative solutions can be thought of and brought to life in order to resolve the issue of what to do with all the debris from a natural disaster...in this case, the massive bay area earthquake of 1989. The Albany Bulb is a mostly cement, pieces of roads, and solid metal debris landfill from the 89 earthquake. Dogs, families, walkers, wagons, bicycles, and indie film stars all welcome here, even off leash. There are incredible works of art made from debris, driftwood, and natural surroundings along the trails, and hidden amongst the trees. An off leash nirvana for your wave loving, ball chasing, outdoor canine enthusiast. Your teens and toddlers will love the soft sandy shore area. Wear layers, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a good brim hat to avoid feeling uncomfortable on your adventure. Be sure to bring a leash!

We went today for our first time. The whole family was in love with everything it had to offer. The art, trails, views, and the small beach area . Kids and dogs enjoy swimming in the coved beach area. The dirt trails were easy to walk for all ages of the family. Only down side is the parking is VERY limited. We will be back to visit soon. We had a lovely day in the Bay

Post homeless encampments Bulb. Lots of dogs, most on-leash. Main paths wide and easy to walk - compact earth & gravel. Lots of puddles after rains but not too muddy. Shoreline walks are muddy at low tide with lots of loose rocks and flotsam. Water breaks are Rocky and navigable at low tide but slippery. Lots of large art objects. Lots of wading birds. One and half hours for complete circumnavigation including water breaks.

This is a very interesting place for a little hike and break from the city. Definitely not your typical, managed park Theres a small beach and, while we were there, lots of off leash dogs (with their humans nearby) were enjoying the water and sand. Theres a trail along the water which starts off on an even surface but has various offshoot paths over rocks. Wild blackberry bushes were full of sweet fruit in July. In several places you can see a variety of ad hoc art in the form of sculptures and graffiti. It could be described as a hidden treasure and I would recommend allowing 1 to 2 hours to explore. Wear good shoes.

Great place for a walk or run. Blackberries are currently in season and plentiful on the bulb!!...almost a year later, and this just gets better. In late December 2018 the beach was improved and the park keeps improving. A curious and interesting development at the far north-west beach; some creative installations, a little unsettling maybe, but well worth seeing. Also, at the end of the bike trail, near parking a new restroom has been installed for our convenience.

Albany Bulb is a really cool and fairly easy walk. The walk offers a constant view of the bay, some beautiful vegetation, and some pretty impressive abstract artistic structures made from the driftwood, trash, and leftover construction materials. I would say it is one of the nicest walks in the area due based on the views it offers it doesnt require more than a couple of hours at most. It is a dirt trail, so the art pieces are not really accessible, but the path between Albany beach and Albany Bulb is.
