The hike to the site was about 2.45 ish and is relatively easy. There is also a great lookout spot near the site so you can get a higher view. Nice photo opportunity too!
Absolutely beautiful trail. Will likely take 2hrs and 15 min to get out and back but there is a dam, stream, hills, flowers, etc etc etc. The actual set is fascinating and curated with a listing of props and what the set looked like by location back in the 70s. Didnt even watch MASH back then (wasnt alive) but gained a new appreciation.
Nice short hike easy. parking fee... good for all
It was fun seeing the site where the show was filmed. First half of the hike is on a wide path. The last 650 meters is on a narrow over grown path, one person at a time. Worth the hike. Lot of birds and spectacular views from the canyon.
Located in the heart of Malibu Creek State Park, the M*A*S*H Hike is a fun #GoHikeIt back into old Hollywood. The hike traverses through the heart of the Malibu Creek State Park & Santa Monica Mountains to the set of M*A*S*H, a popular 1970s & 1980s television show about the team of Army doctors during the Korean War. The television show ran for 11 seasons and over 250 episodes were created with many of them filmed in the Malibu Creek State Park area. The hike is relatively flat and a good entry level hike hiking adventures for families or new hikers. There are also picnic tables at the set area, which makes for a perfect picnic hiker or area to relax and rest.
Its a long hike, up and back. But its good for your body. Bring plenty of water.
A nice, not too intense 2.6 mile hike from the visitors center and parking lots off of Los Virgenes Road entrance to Malibu Creek State Park. There are some more shaded parts of the hike early while you walk along the service road, but it is more exposed to the sun in other parts. There isnt a ton to see at the set site itself, a few trucks, info post, but the shaded picnic benches at the site where the mess hall was are a welcome inclusion. If you dont mind the drive or live in the area, and are understanding of the fact theres not a full set there, this is a chill hike thats a good one for those not very used to hiking or those that are looking for one thats not too intensive.
Meant a lot to go after almost 30 years trying to make it. Loved just being there.
If you are an nuts fan of M*A*S*H like I am then you will thoroughly enjoy the hike to the site. Im knocking off one star because it would have been nice to see some kind of outline on the ground indicating the buildings, not just a map. Seems like it needs a bit more maintenance/trimming in many areas. The like will take you about 45 mins in each direction from the main car park. Make sure to get your photo next to the sign!
Nice hike really cool being able to come enjoy this place .
Great place to walk to from the campsite along crag road. Easy to moderate hike with one up.
We visited the site in early June. It gets really warm since you are walking thru a canyon. Be sure you have lots of water. The path is good for half the journey but it does become narrow and rocky along the way. The path is not well marked and it is way further than what the Park Ranger indicated. Our devise indicated it a little under 5 miles each way and the ranger said it was 2 miles each way. Thats a big difference. Once you get there there is not much to see.
Good trails
Beautiful and maintained trail. 7 easy miles
Nice trail ! Through the river .the army cars are awesome.
Bounced back well from the fire and continues to be a great site to hang out and spend some time.
The set from my favorite tv show of all time. Well worth a visit, there isnt much left after the fires that came through the area multiple times through the years. Should have been preserved as a part of American pop culture and a symbolic vibration of our history with North Korea.
Ive wanted to hike here for years but havent been able to because of health issues. I know peoples lives & homes make this a minor loss, but I fear this beautiful piece of history is now gone. :(
Fun trail with historic Hollywood destination.
Great walk, take some water and a picnic lunch. The trail isnt steep but it is uneven (tree roots, loose gravel) in places so wear sensible shoes. Apart from the MASH set, the hills are also very photogenic, particularly in spring. Fully recommended for all MASH fans.
Great place to explore but its very far from the road. You need water
Location was hit pretty hard by recent fires and then double whammied by heavy rain! Still cool, but not the same as it used to be.
Sad some people cant keep from destroying TV history. But, glad some fans keep the place alive and well.
Pretty cool!
Sad to hear that fire did damage to the MASH location. I enjoyed seeing the location some years back. I expected the location to much larger, seemed so when watching the show. But it is still one of may shows to watch.
Fun to see.
Great picture spot!
Really good hike in the Santa Monica mountains.
This was very interesting place to visit brought back memories of watching the TV show years ago. If you come in from the lake Malibu side it is much much shorter walk.
I come here all the time. There is clear, easy to follow hiking trail about 5 miles long round trip. Starts at the parking lot. Takes me about an hour to walk in and an hour to walk back. There are plenty of shaded picnic areas at the MASH site itself, as well as trash cans and several labeled information boards with information and photos from the show. Its a must see if you are a fan or live nearby.
Great hike mash scene is nothing spectacular but the surroundings are well worth it. Do this in the morning or on cloudy days as there is no shade to be found on the trail.
You can see some old car and a decent view
If you love the show mash then you will love coming here some stuff from the set still remains its a bit of a walk but it is well worth the trip
Some friends live near here and we ventured out to see the place when I came to visit. It was really cool seeing this legendary set and actually spending time chatting with other fans of the TV series. Just remember to take plenty of water with you as it is a long walk to see it.
Is well maintained, and a great piece of history.
If youre a MASH fan then you need to make the pilgrimage. Can be a bit of a hike no matter the direction you choose, but there are still some good things to see here and you can stand where some of your heroes acted. A+
Awesome place to visit...put on your bucket list if you are a MASH fan! Only complaint is park trail signs are minimal.
Fun hike bring water!
Great place for a day hike, plenty of friendly people! Great views! Go early!
Perfect hike for preschoolers!
Well worth the hike to see television history!
Another bucket item if you like MASH. Nice hike as well.
Walked here with family, awesome place with memories of MASH mixed with the real location. Priceless.
Nice and fun hiking trail.
Beautiful park!
Great place
A trip down memory lane
Burnt to smithereens
Love the TV séries
Sad.
God hike
Grate place to visit.
