A beautifully laid out museum of firefighting equipment leads you through the growth of fire fighting technology. The museum has three levels. The main street level has the old firehouse with delightfully restored hose carts and pumpers. In addition it also showcases communications switchboard from early years. The main lobby area displays the progress of firefighting equipment. Notably, the far wall highlights the evolution of fire extinguishers. It also has hats and patches from various FDs in Michigan. You can go upstairs to see the restored living quarters of fire fighters. The upper mezzanine is dedicated to smoky the bear. The basement houses additional vintage fire trucks.Expect to spend an hour to two hours. The staff is very friendly; I even heard them enthrall a child by operating a siren. The cost of admission is reasonable.
Fun museum!!! Very cool exhibits. The wear old fire trucks with mains dressed a fire men of the time. It was connected to the real old fire house with rooms set up as the looked back when it was in use overall very cool and had a good time!!! 5 stars :)
Very cool to see the history of fire fighting. Especially if you are or were a fire fighter. Well done. Knowledge staff and friendly.
The people that work there very knowledgeable! This place is way bigger than it looks and they have tons and tons of really neat stuff! Plus its handicap friendly with an elevator!
Cool museum. Nice staff. Well worth $5.
Was here for an event, very interesting will be back. History and art together.
Great place to educate children about the evolution, ideas, concepts of fire fighting techniques. Total 3 floors to see all details. It approximately takes 1.5 to 2 hrs to run thru detailed tour of whole museum. I would certainly recommend this place to visit. Only 3 parking spots in the premises, else you may park your vehicle on road or nearby public parking area a short distance ahead.
Great for anyone with an interest in the fire service. large collection of trucks and hose reels, helmets, sirens and other items. great old building as well.
Interesting artifacts on display along with being educational
This museum holds numerous fire artifacts from helmets and nozzles to old time horse drawn pumpers and newer types. This location is at the site of an coveted fire station. Excellent site to stop by as a family or just take in.
Displays are set up well and is suitable for kids and adults. Especially like the old Firehouse and the quarters. Bad parking though.
I had never even heard of this museum before, but it was a great surprise! Its a modern building attached to one of the original firehouses. The memorabilia collection is astounding, and they probably have 20 different fire trucks from various times - its fascinating to see what changed and when. The basement has a play area for kids. It was relatively inexpensive and worth a visit.
Part of the museum is the original Firehouse. Very cool.
Way more content than I would have assumed! Everyone wad friendly and knowledgeable, the gift store was comically cheap (we bought gifts for nieces and nephews) and took a million pictures with my fascinated 2 year old son. This is a great place to let the kids explore while learning a fair amount yourself.
Wonderful place with a great staff. I love the history and the historical significance of the place.
Very educational a great place for kids or adults.
Staff was most cordial and inviting of my wife, our two wee grandchildren and myself. Great fun to see how firefighting has changed over the years. A GREAT family outing!
Surprisingly entertaining with a lot to see. Not a bad way to kill an hour and some change.
Excellent place a must place to visit
Great museum with lots of Michigan fire history.
Lots to see! Cool play area for the kids in the basement.
This museum is a hidden gem in Ypsilanti! We spent about 2 hours and really enjoyed all of the exhibits - they have several full size vehicles along with a good variety of other interesting objects both historic and current. The Michigan Firehouse Museum is definitely well worth visiting!
Lots to see . Good examples of the history of firefighting. Check it out.
This is a great museum for young and old. Watch a movie upstairs while the kids play downstairs in an area just for them. Dress up in firemens clothes, take funny picture and enjoy lots of interesting history.
Its got a lot to look at, and even if youre not a huge fan of firehouse stuff youll have a pretty fun time anyways. If you are a fan of firefighter stuff though, this might be one of the best places in the world to go to.
Can easily imagine the horse-drawn wagons racing out to battle a fire in the 1800s. Love this building, lovely restoration.
What a nice tribute to our heros. The trucks and the newer building are great, but the older section is even better.
Friendly, accommodating staff. Fun for kids (particularly the basement).
This is a wonderful historical place to visit with the whole family and the staff is friendly and helpful.
